So Basically I got a Salvage R33 of the Auctions to transplant the RB25DET into my R32, However I got unlucky and it turns out the Head Gasket is Blown, so obviously I need a new Head Gasket, rather then getting standard I figure I may as well get a Metal Head Gasket Straight up, Problem is I'm not to sure what to get.

Motor is a Standard S2 RB25DET, at this point I don't plan on changing and of the internals, if anything in the Future I may put in some Cams but that's about it, Turbo Wise I'll either be running my HKS 25/30 or a TD0620G , aiming for a power figure around 230-260RWKW.

I'm not to sure what the Standard Bore is on 25, I'm thinking it's like 86mm or 87mm , So I did some searching on ebay and I found these Tomei ones TOMEI NISSAN RB25DET METAL HEAD GASKET 87MM BORE 1.2MM They also offer them in 88M BORE and in 1.5MM and 1.8MM Thickness, what sizes should I be looking for, also these are priced around $300 , is this a Good price or can someone tell me where I else I could buy one.

Thanks for any help guys,

Well I Was Intending to Deck and Acid Wash the Head, well I've got it off, not just planning to slap one on, I figured would be more reliable with a Metal Head Gasket, The Car is purely Track Only For Drift.

When it comes to Engine internals I'm a Novice thus why I'm Asking, when it comes to reliability of a standard over a metal head gasket I don't know much differences, If its effective to just buy a Standard Gasket, and it will hold up I may just do that, just exploring the options of if I use a Metal Head Gasket what I'd be looking for.

+1 for genuine nissan gasket. has a lot more tolerance for imperfect surfaces and is a lot cheaper. they're around $150 from nissan but look around a few of the traders websites for prices, for example about a year ago lewis engines were clearing old stock and had brand new genuine gaskets for $45

Seems like many seem to Think Genuine Nissan Gasket is the way to go, if that's the case, just for information wise, what advantages are there to actually running a Metal Head Gasket.. if any.

if your running a lot of boost on a built motor they can be better. but you need to deck the block and the head to a smoother finish than normal. for a stocker motor its just something else that can go wrong for no real gain.

The standard will do the job but yeah tomei is better and can be reused if you ever pull the head off. I put a tomei 1.2mm into my rb25 and its drift use only so far no problems all year using it and in regards to people saying you gota have perfect surface to use one its not exactly true, if your using a cosmetic one yes the finish has to be redicoulously good but the tomei are more tolerant and aslong as you within factory specs you wont need to deck it as I didnt deck my block as both head and block were within factory specs and no problems.

Tell us, how it is better exactly?

So are you trying to say that the stock one and metal one are as strong as each other?

Like I said the standard will do the job in hes case but metal ones are stronger and added bonus can be re used and to me if your putting it in a track car who knows whens the next time something goes wrong and you gota pull the head off and atleast you wont have to bother with a new gasket again.

you can reuse it, but any special sealing coating it may have isnt a multi use feature and on a track car, why would you skimp on something as important as the gasket when pulling the head off?

its a bit like buying $5000 rims only to put nankangs or triangle tyres on them.

The metal gasket is better. Its designed to be stronger but from what you have said its pointless. It can be done but it is VERY unnecessary. That is what everyone is getting at.

The tomei IS a better gasket but not needed for your application. Are you going to put a Nismo timing belt on? It cost $250. Its better than the standard Nissan one but for the most of users its very pointless as the standard Nissan belt will hold quite well.

Things can be done, when they are needed, not just because they can be done.

Well, given the fact that Decking the Head/Block isn't going to cost me to much, in terms of price if Nissan is selling the standard Gasket for around $150, and a Metal Head Gasket is only going to cost $300, I think I will be getting a Metal Head Gasket, so in regards to the Tomei one i posted up, under the assumption that a standard is off the tables, Is this a good option are their other Metal Head Gaskets out there for RB25DET's that people could recommend?

If your going metal tomei are one of the better ones in terms of how tolerant they are to surface finish as for myself working without a deck or anything, cosmetic are abit cheaper but needs a really good surface finish, nitto are good items to but I am unsure of how good the surface has to be for them I would get the tomei if your going metal cant go wrong.
