yeh the quality is amazing but quality also comes at a price and most people would just want a cheaper option.

anyway long story short, i didnt end up getting one of these bonnets. i put my cash into some other nice parts such as carbon 400r front lip, carbon abflug rear diffuser, new rims and tyres and also a nice HKS t51R :D

Mmmmmm , I have the same delema, I bought the car with the Z-Tune bonnet on, so do I get rid of the Z-Tune bonnet, it is at least a 6 year old model ( if it is an original) and buy the new one with the water channels at big $ or have the vents blocked off permanently somehow.

But from what I can see of the new channeled Z/R bonnets the water will still run down inside the motor, maybe not over the motor, what about the electrics ect???

I want to be able to drive the car without looking out the window for rain or getting a long term weather report if I want to go away for a week or so. I do not or intend to drive the car that hard it needs this type of bonnet to cool the engine to save a second or 2, but they look good :)

Does anyone know of another solution to this problem without being a Smart A and saying "get a standard bonnet."If this is your only reply, dont bother!!

Either get a proper nismo ztune bonnet with water channeling or you could get some channelling built into your current one, or std, those are the options, my vented bonnet doesnt bother me cause its on a weekend or track car so i dont drive in the rain if i can help it, plus traction with my power and rwd is no fun, drive the navara instead...

Get a std bonnet..

Seriously though, your question was answered on page 1 of this thread. Get some Perspex or similar and some insulation or foam tape to fill in the gaps. You'll know if you have a leak even with a small hole.

Thanks,I did read the other suggestions and I will see if I can get something done. I will go for a permanent fix.

But I think if there are vents on a bonnet and your car is a daily , regardless of the make quality or adding channels or whatever, water will get onto your motor area and then everywhere else, water coming anywhere under your bonnet & wind = water all over the inside your engine bay. It does not mean it has to be pissing in to cause long term problems, just a continuous exposure to water will do it. That is why I do not drink the crap  .

If I do not want any water in the engine bay then I have to seal them off totally or as suggested , get a standard bonnet.

Since I do like the look and use it as a daily, sealing them off is my choice

Even if you get water on the engine its not a major issue a little bit of water wont hurt, but water in the valley will cause miss fires, a daily with a vented bonnet is fine with a genuine nismo bonnet thats what they make it for, so no major water gets into the valley.

If your just going to seal off the vents then also think about the pools of water youll get in the vent area which will also be annoying, been there done that.

Seriously get water channels built into it or get a proper nismo bonnet otherwise go std, they are the only options, blocking off the vents makes it annoying and totally gay

Finding someone to do anything different up here is a problem, got one quote $600, so I did it myself yesterday . It was a bit tricky with the bonnet still on the car and would be much easier if you take it off,

Bought a sheet of lite Aluminium as it is easy to shape, $32 from Bunnings and made a cover to go under ALL of the vents, sealed and bolted it on to the skin under the bonnet, added a hole in the front that is just to the side of the radiator where I will make up a funnel and hose that will let the water out without going on anything. Well that my theory

I did leave it opened at the back just to see if the vents can still keep it a little cooler, this could cause a problem but it work fine if I just tip water in through the vents BUT I will have to wait until I fit the funnel and drive in the rain to check it out, maybe the wind factor under bonnet will force me to modify it, bloody hope not as it is on there to stay

What sort of monsoons are you guys driving in.... I have a z tune bonnet and have had one for over 2 years without any issues at all. The only time i see a bit of water in the bay is when i spray it with a hose.

But rain I have never ever had an issue with.

They are copies and the water just pisses in and I do not like the idea of having water all over my engine etc if I get caught in the rain and the idea of not being able to drive your car in the rain is nuts

I have a copy and water doesn't piss in with QLD rain. Each to their own I guess, but as I said I have had one for over 2 years without any issues at all. Only time a decent amount of water gets in the bay, is when I hose my car and even a genuine nismo wouldn't stop that.

But the ztune bonnet has vents right over the engine yes?

And the non genuine ztune bonnets have nothing to stop water going through the vents, right?

So how does your engine not get wet?

Pics???

The vents face backwards from the direction of travel and they aren't that massive, so hence why it only gets a little bit when you stop at the lights. A genuine nismo has the same vents, but has internal water drains to help guide the excess water away from the engine, but still has the same size vents, so even heavy rain would leave a few drops on the engine.

I think people get the impression that water just pours into the engine bay, when in fact it gets barely anything.

^^^ ahhh well that will mean a bit of rain gets on your engine, and your bonnet vents look a lot bigger than the z-tune ones as well. But in saying that, in mine the water only just goes on the front of the engine or between the radiator and engine. (Also I don't park my car in the rain.... lol)

If it is coming down all you have to do is stop at a traffic light and there is only one place the water is going as it runs through the vents, engine bay, motor and anywhere else gravity wants to take it.

My vents cover about 1/3rd from the front of the motor.

Even when washing the bloody thing and a bit splashes on the vent area the motor gets water on it ( I do not mean pointing the hose at the vents) and that is just a splash, not a bloody down poor while parked or sitting at the lights.

I have not driven in the rain yet but I cannot believe these copy Z-Tune vents would not get water in them even while driving , I know air comes out through the vents but strong enough to stop all of the water going through , I doubt it. BUT?

What sort of monsoons are you guys driving in....

:rofl2:

i think the only issue is raining when parked and car's being washed. not to mention overnight moisture.

even then, would it make the engine bay that dirty?

how bout a standard bonnet with NSCA ducts?

    • I know this one’s the BB one. My tuner did make mention about the actuator. I am curious about the VCT as well
    • Might also needs a stronger actuator with the right preloading. With older 2019 built bush G3 units, BB upgrade or 21U housing down size makes a pretty decent gain in response as well.
    • Hey lads  so im finally putting together my rb30 forged bottom end and ran into an issue. I measured my main bearing clearance with arp main studs torqued to 60 ft-lbs using ACL H series STD size bearings and standard, un-ground crank shaft journals and got an oil clearance reading of about 1.3 thou measuring straight up and down and about 2.8 thou measuring at a 45 degree angle (just above and below the parting line). My machine shop said they measured the main tunnel and it was all within spec (they didnt say the actual measurement) and to go with a standard size bearing, which i have done and the clearance is too tight, I'm guessing because of the extra clamping force from the arp studs distorting the main tunnel. I was wanting to run about 2.5 thou main bearing clearance.  My questions are: 1. could i just use the HX extra 1 thou clearance ACL bearings? that would fix my straight up and down clearance making it about 2.3 thou, but then would the side to side clearance be too big at around 3.8 thou? 2. what actually is the recommended main bearing clearance for measuring near the parting line / side to side. i know its supposed to be bigger as the bearing has some eccentricity built into it but how much more clearance should there be compared to the straight up and down measurement? at the moment there is about 1.5thou difference, is that acceptable or should it be less? 3. If i took the engine block + girdle back to the machine shop and got them to line bore the main tunnel (like i told them to do the first time, but they said it didnt need it) what bearing size would i buy? the STD size bearing shells already slide in fairly easily with no real resistance, some even falling out if i tip the girdle up-side-down. If im taking material out of the main tunnel would i need a bearing with extra material on the back side to make up for it? this is probably confusing af to read so if something doesn't make sense let me know and ill try explaining in a different way. My machine shop doesn't come back from christmas break until mid January, hence why i'm asking these questions here. TIA for any help or info
    • I bought the model back in Japan in Feb. I realised I could never build it, looked around for people who could build it, turns out there's some very skilled people out there that will make copies of 1:1 cars or near enough. I'm not really a photo guy... but people were dragging me in a group chat for the choice of bumper as someone else saw the car before it was finished as they are also a customer of that shop. I took the photo in the above post because I was pretty confident that the lip would work wonders for it. Here's some more in-progress and almost-done pics. It gives a good enough idea as to what the rear looks like!   I have also booked in a track day at the end of January. Lets all hope that is nothing but pure fun and games. If it's not pure fun and games, well, I've already got half an engine spare in the cupboard
    • Well, do ya, punk? Seriously though, let's fu<king go! The colour and kit looks amazing on the car. Do you have any shots from the rear? I don't quite follow how the model came around. You bought the white kit and he modified it to match your car? Looks nuts either way!
