Hi, just have a few questions that im curious getting the answer too as i might go down the path of importing the car i want instead of sourcing locally. I have searched but i havent found exactly what im looking for.

anyway the questions are;

how long can the imported car be unrego'd from date of compliance in Aus, is it as simple as just getting the standard car rego'd when out of rego for 6months - NSW wise.

i know that import brokers help source out the car i want from there dealers etc, but say i find a few from a dealer that i have found would the inspect it as well for me? - im guessing here it might depend on the broker, and if so who will and who wont (any recommendations)? also if they do is it or will it be included in their broker fee (the standard figure of 800-1500)?

one more for the inspections is there any place that does one-off inspections for a price, how you get stateroads or a workshop to check a car etc and get a full report and plenty of pictures?

also iv seen the calculators for costing i know of the import monster one and thats about it, i has a search long ago for more but i cant seem to bloody find them anymore can someone link some to me please? - i think im going blind haha

i think thats all for now... any answers and input would be appreciated.

1) don't know, you'd need to speak to RTA or what ever you guys deal with. But question back is, why would you want to to delay it!?!?! If I'd just gotten a car complied I'd want to have it Regod and be driving that day!!!

2) yes, they can Organise it... And you are right.. It does depend on the broker, but it also depends on the guy in Japan... The auction runners etc. generally speaking a brokers auction runner staff will be at "whichever the most popular houses" are for that day on some what of a rotating roster, focussing on one auction house daily.

Yes, they can do a special trip to a dealer / yahoo Japan seller / out of the way auction house, but that's in their own time, on their onus, on their terms.

All train tickets, wages and lunches are paid for by you :-)

Basically it's not worth it.. You're paying for your broker to find you a car in Japan that suits your needs, so ... Let them

Find a car for you in Japan that suits your needs :-) you wouldn't jump behind the counter after paying for a sandwich to make your own sandwich :-p

Dude... Again, don't worry about a full page report / inspection, no point. At an auction this is the inspection that you get, guy looks at car, checks it out for 5 minutes, reports any faults he finds n says what he thinks about thaw car. He doesn't taste the trans fluid or pressure test the injectors etc... He gets in, starts the car, makes sure the cars clean. Change the gears, n tells you what he reckons the car is like...

The rest is an educated guess by you :-) which makes it half the fun...

Don't be a sissy about buying a car sight unseen, let's say you get a car n it shows up and a few months later a headlight bulb blows...

.. Just get a new one!! :-) etc etc.

My soarer was in fantastic nick when i imported it thanks to Aaron at import monster, still is,

But today the radiator blew, so I got a new one! Easy :-)

Import monster or any other broker that's on here man

That said.

Buy from USS auction house n just use an auction runner man.

If you are importing an older car then I guess it could be worth having someone do a full inspection on it for you, or go and do it yourself. If it is a newer car, only a few years old with low kms, then the auction sheet would be fine. Just go through one of the reputable dealers on here who post constantly and you know that they will back you up if the car turns out to be a lemon. Noone wants negative feedback about their business floating around on here.

If you are really that paranoid, then buy a ticket to Japan and go and have a look yourself. Having some random Japanese guy, that I have never met, check over the car in that sort of detail would not really put my mind at ease. You would still have no comeback if his report turned out wrong, good luck starting a cross border lawsuit.

As for the cost calculator, google 'Prestige Motorsport'. He has a spreadsheet that you can use to give a pretty good estimate.
