Diff Crown Wheel Bolts

Can someone confirm to remove the crown wheel bolts, its just anticlockwise and they're not special reverse thread?

my rattle gun did nothing. i used a piece of 60cm iron tube over the ratchet handle to get them off, even then i had to use a fair amount of effort to crack them! good fun

A rattle gun should do it, my 1/2in gun gets them good. Just remember though that hopefully the last time the bolts were removed, loctite may have been used when putting them back in

Perhaps don't do that to your poor ratchet. The internals won't take that sort of abuse. Use a breaker bar instead.

Ah you just jolted my memory! It was actually that pipe over a 50 odd centimetre breaker bar lol

Yep, managed to screw the bolts off with breaker bar + 600mm pole in a BIG vice.

anyone removed pinion from the diff?

i have removed the big nut and splined flange and tried tapping the pinion end without any luck

I crack the crownwheel bolts while the centre is still in the car, so much easier.

Unless you're talking about R31's... and in that case it's a whole different arrangement.
