The price of 34GTT will be governed by the cost of importing them from japan once SEVS is finallised and adding some profit.

A 98gtt manual model can be had for 1,000,000 yen fob or even less

once you add import duty , cost of shipping, gst and approx $4500 compliance plus tyres, the final cost on the road will be about $24000 approx.

For a car yard or importer to make more than $3000-5000 profit their doing well

So that would make them worth under $30,000 in a car yard

So selling privately you would not get as much as a yard.

I think $27000-29000 is very realistic over the next 6-12 months.

(and yes I have imported cars before and understand what is involved. My 33 GTST manual 95 mspec cost me under$13,000 on the road 2 years ago when the exchange rate was about 65yen, it is now 80+)

EDIT: I think also, compliance prices were thought to be $4500, but with a few places getting approval, and compliance now being $5500, it's also upped the price a bit. I think $25-26K landed and compiled is prob about the cheapest you'll get now.

Fair enough that's is the best you have seen

Not every car is 600-700,000

auctions are exposed to the whole world, so the price of cars bring top dollar.

The guy I used to compliy my car, buys cars thru a agent at a fixed price (not crap cars), so your not biddiing against every tom dick and harry.

I bought my 95 33 GTST thru a guy in NZ who passed me onto the company in Japan directly

I paid 400,000 fob grade 4 about 2 years ago.

I mate of mine bought his thru the auction process at the same time and paided over 800,000 yen plus $1100 comission.

so it is the old story of who you know , not what you know.

Can you provide examples with say 60-80,000km as this is a bit more comparable to most of the imports that reach Australia.

One thing I have noticed with professional dealers they like to infate prices to cover their own arse and to protect their income.

when you imported your car it would have been under the old compliance scheme over 12-14 months ago

the exchange rate was about 65 back then, it is now 80. you would save approx $4000 including duty and gst if you bought the same car now at the same price.

the prices of the cars have also dropped in value in Japan aswell, that would make a further saving

the other thing to consider sevs compliance has now gone up which sucks.

I don't think prices will drop...realistically a good 4.5 grade at the auctions will still be $30K+ when landed when you filter in the exchange rate which the Aussie dollar is currently looking better, freight, tax, compliance.

You probably want to buy soon as well with the dollar still looking good. If you haven't noticed the Japanese economy is recovering at a rapid rate, the Yen is the only currency out of the 4 including the Euro, UK Pound and Canadian dollar which is still continuing to rally against the US dollar.

Skylines are much nicer cars than any silvia. Performance wise, ok, maybe similar, but its not always performance with any car.

Your treading on thin ice there: I would own an S15 over an R34 any single day of the week. The r34 is a very tame and boring sedan compared to the sporty S15, (stock to stock) have you driven both? I have. This is personal preference of course, but you can't go and say they are 'far nicer cars' I prefer the interior, the seats, the suspension and the road feel on the S15 as well.

I would take a silvia over skyline gtst on all models.. r32 vs s13, r33 vs s14, r34 vs s15

Hmmm I was going to argue, but then I realised I have never driven a Skyline apart from a GT-R (R32, R33 and R34). The main thing I can't stand about the Silvia is the engine note. The SR20 is a horrid sounding thing... especially compared to an RB. Don't get me wrong, the SR20 is light and makes good power but hand me the earplugs!
