Hi guys;

I was going through a traffic light at the normal speed limit and a car came flying past me from behind and the camera flashed! he was probably doing 80 in a 60 zone - Pretty sure we were right next to each other when the flash happened so my question is, I wouldn't be pinged by that fine would I? How do the camera's know which car was over the limit?

the exact same thing happened to me and i didn't get a fine that was 6-7 months ago now so wouldn't sweat ,not sure about how it pick which cars which

They know which lane triggered.

You won't get a fine. They most certainly will send out if more than one car is in the pic.

I mean take the cameras on Hoddle St, Dandenong Rd etc - Traffic 24x7 and the cameras go off like Christmas lights!

As above, sensor information is included with photo and if you request the photo it will actually mark in which lane you were speeding. Two pics are taken at intersection cameras and these show which car was going faster.

You should not worry - you were doing the right thing...their technology should differentiate accordingly but even if it fails to - just spend 10 minutes wring them a letter to contest the fine and you will definitely be in the clear - wait 1 month or so and you should know...don't worry...

this is true, however those camera's on hoddle are pretty much always faulty :rolleyes:

Since we are on the topic of speed/red light cameras and hoddle st... I see it happen alot where people get in the right lane to turn right, sitting on the sensor and then go f"k it, i'll go straight, get off the sensor and the camera obviously takes a shot as it thinks they are turning on a red... is what they are doing legal? or are you obliged to turn right?

differing opinions? seems like everyone is in agreement... nothing to worry about

Paranoid OP hear's what paranoid OP wants to hear :)

I think it's technically illegal to do that, because you're changing directions at an intersection and you almost always have to cross over a solid line to do this manouvre. But I don't think you'd get a camera fine for it if the camera went off. Reason being, is that red light cameras must take two photos for you to receive a fine: one at the first sensor when you cross the pedestrian lines into the intersection, and a second photo upon crossing the sensor at the middle/end of the intersection. The assumption is that people who willingly travel through the red will cross over both sensors, whilst those wanting to stop short of it and not completely cross the intersection will only get snapped once - behaviour they obviously want to promote. Saw a friend driving and put on their brakes in the wet once...they were carrying a heavy load and their tyres weren't fantastic, so they skidded to a stop in the middle of the intersection. Camera went off once, but no fine ever came of it.

did it once, camera went off... no fine :)

    • I already have the ability to datalog the voltage... what I can't do is correlate it to what the gauge is showing when I'm looking at the data at a later date. Or something like this. Except getting the oil to 125C+ involves me going 200+kmh at the track so you can imagine this is a little tricky unless I do something like note what the voltage is when I am at the top of 5th gear so I have a point to reference on. Drove car today. O2 still reading richer because hopefully not a leak instead of massive restriction I've introduced. Car really doesn't sound like a LS. It's quite strange. Pulled a bit of fuel out up top. This does potentially explain why my spark plugs looked like the car was running pretty over-rich. If I was tuning it to a ~12.7 which in reality was far richer than that in the past. It will be handy to have the dyno WB to compare my WB to to compare notes that's for sure. At this point I'm happy to just sit in the passenger seat and tune the thing given I've got about 7 million hours on the platform lol.
    • Yeah I understand you have to pay for an updated map or subscription service or something. But I can't even find a current map for Australia. My map is dated 2017, but didn't this car version still sell in Australia until 2021?   Also, just as an aside, the navigation system warns you of traffic incidences ahead.....why would they include that on a map they knew is not receiving live information. I am forever going to be warned of an incident that probably existed for 30 minutes 8 years ago.

    • sensible choice....and all 32s should be in yellow
    • Run it in open loop for now, and drop the frequency down. This lowers the resolution and requires more duty cycle to do anything, however good to troubleshoot.
