I agree with terry, get a proper receipt and take the right paths of getting the refund that you are lawfully entitled to.

I dont trust many places with my car, and if this had been me, i wouldnt have even left it with them a second time.

What if he goes over the whole car with the buffer to try and make it all match, and he screws up the rest of the paint  I dont mean to worry you by saying that, Id just be getting my car well away from this guy if it were me :/

Hey guys, havn't had a chance to read all the replies from this afternoon or post the pics. I'll answer all the key points and get these pics posted hopefully tomorrow, otherwise for sure Friday. A big thanks too to everyone. I means alot to me.

Was the weather or panel being sprayed cold? Often happens when the paint gets cold, it comes up as a matte finish. Had a similar problem with my car when I sprayed it, luckily it can buff up to a nice shine :D

I think it was on a pretty warm day if memory serves me correct.I was already judging the finish before it even had time to cure haha.

Hi KrazyKong,

I wish i could help u, i really do. It really gets to me, being a workshop owner and building custom cars and doing custom resprays, that i see and hear of this constantly.

Ive read through your comments and realised u were in Brisbane. My workshop is in Sydney, so unless u are coming down to Sydney anytime soon *winkface...

when u get the chance, post some fotos of the finished product, and try and bounce sunlight of the repair so i can see ripples, orange peel and other imperfections. I have painted a few cars from Brisbane and The Gold Coast, having the owners come all the way from ur area as i have an excellent reputation. I also have a customer coming from Darwin. One of the other cars i have painted is luke finks S14A with the magenta to violet fade over black, with pearl white and gold metal flake, not sure if u have seen it or not...

Post a photo or two and il endevour to help and give you my professional opinion

Thankyou

His drift car? Isn't that green?

dacars4.jpg

Would love to see pictures if it has been resprayed or a different car entirely?

No, sorry it wasn't the drift car that Holford Motors own, it was the S14a that Luke owned personally, his street car.

Its hard to capture the affect as i don't have a wizz bang camera, but there is a video on Vimeo that Scott Mitchell has made about the wrap up of ADGP and u see Luke rolling thru the pits in this car and the sunlight brings out the fade and flake. Its a cool clip and it kind of shows u what the car looks like if u haven't seen in it person...

If u look at the front of the passenger door and compare it to the rear qtr, u can see that the door has a magenta affect to it, and the qtr panel has a violet affect to it.

here is the video link

*Really sorry, didnt mean to hijack the thread

Hey bud, I'm super bummed out to hear about your car. Dont hate me for this, but I'm a painter (cringe)!!

Firstly, as a lot of guys have said already, dont panic about paint work. It can be redone, and if done properly, you wont be able to tell its been done at all.

The area thats been re-repaired, sounds like the filler/bog has mapped up from the base coat due to a lack of primer. If that area was to be redone, id' reblock it

and given that the paint was done about a week ago it should be cured enough to paint directly over. provided the clear coat isnt breached. Also, the grit or dirt

your seeing and feeling in the paint can be 'nibbed' out. You wont see it after that.

Silver is one of the nastiest colours to blend, but again as a lot of guys have already said, if this guys is professional it should be a walk in the park. From what I've

read of the damage and the paint work done, he should be able to paint the the rear 1/4 and blend into the door without a problem, if there isnt enough room, just go

into the gaurd. Painting isnt rocket science, although there is a definite art to it. There's painting and then theres 'painting'!

Being this close to christmas shouldnt matter at all. If the guys in 'said' workshop are passionate about what they do, the job would be done right. Always insist on quality

over quantity. If it takes a few extra days so be it. One more thing too a full respray, in the same colour, with any small dents/scratches etc should be around $6000 for a good job. If you want show looks, you'll have to pay show price.

but all in all, a good tidy up would be around $6K. Theres probably so much more to cover but I keep going in circles in my head.

Thats just my lil' opinion on it anyway.......

If theres anything else you need to ask just PM me and help as best I can. (No i'm not in QLD either before you ask hahah)

    • Sadly I can confirm if you are actually seeking to drift, you will quite easily spin up one wheel. Even if you're going in a straight line. I am not entirely sure of the metrics/terminology here but there's only a certain amount that the helical will actually spin both wheels. I've seen it on video with my own car where two lines of smoke switch over to just one after you really get in to it. Unlike with a clutch diff where you can keep your foot planted until the car regains grip, in my experience with the helical you want to be utilizing traction control allowing LIMITED slip or lifting (partially) when you start to spin up both tyres with a Nissan helical. Which makes them pretty sub optimal for drifting duty. That said... this is probably a helical on numbers alone. Just put the Kazz in
    • Let's just fix the problem by f**king the rest of the gearbox.
    • Unlikely, as per Greg's post. This is not helical diff behaviour unless one wheel is up off the ground. Shimming what? You don't "shim" a mechanical LSD. Probably not in the sense that you have heard of people "shimming" a diff. And the process that Nissan f**kwits call "shimming" a diff involves super-preloading a VLSD cartridge against the side of the diff to create a friction/wear point (in a place that it wasn't supposed to have one) to make the sloppy, useless, viscous diff into a hybrid viscous/mech abortion. In case it isn't clear, I consider the process to be stupid. Nike.
    • How much does the shifter move when the car is in gear with the engine off? If it is more than about 1cm you need to replace your shifter bush. Your shifts will just get crunchier, not faster, with a short shifter unless you also rebuild the whole box
