Can anyone explain why when you buy a Nissan full gasket kit that it comes with one bag of 12 valve stem seals with a part number of 13207-D4201 and another bag of 12 valve stem seal with a part number of 13207-5L300? They look exactly the same and the parts list just describes both items as Oil Seal - valve stem!

I presumed 12 were for the intake valves and the other 12 were for the exhaust valves, but which are which?! Are they interchangeable?

I'm sending it all of to the head servicing people tomorrow and I just want to make sure they install them correctly.

Thanks

In the Nissan FAST software it just shows the intake valve stem seals as 13207 (does not show the second part of the part number), and shows the exhaust valve stem seals as 13207+A (also with no second part of part number).

Still no closer to understanding which side is which! :yucky:

Yep they look the same as far as I can see. OK, will just leave it up to the head servicing people to put them where ever :P

Thanks

Do they both look the same? I think from when I did mine and got the kit they both looked the same so i didnt really take notice and used them on whichever side.

hmmmmm the head people want me to check which set goes on what side (intake / exhaust), just in case they are different.

Surely someone else has come across this before when replacing valve stem seals on an RB25DET Neo head?

Help!!!

Thanks

I did buy the complete Nissan VRS kit for the RB25DET Neo and the valve stem seals came in the kit.

Problem being the kit included one bag of 12 valve stem seals with one part number, and another bag of 12 valve stem seals with another part number, so I would have assumed the parts are slightly different with one for the exhaust side and and one for the intake side.

If the guys installing them cant tell which is which, then id take the head elsewhere. FWIW they are the same part, its just more economical to buy the VRS kit and use the ones from that. ($200 for the seals vs $200 for the whole kit)

Sorry for the late reply. However I believe the exhaust seals are viton and the intake are not, hence different part number. I am going to use exhaust on the intake as well as the viton will hold the heat better.

Makes sense! So what's the part number for the exhaust side?

I guessed that 13207-D4201 is intake and 13207-5L300 is the exhaust in the Neo application, hopefully I was right.

Holy crap you are right. And I have just learnt how to use FAST properly! I could not get it to display the second part of the part number, now I have figured it out. Which will make it so much easier to order all the little bits and peices I need!!

:thanks:

From what I can see 13207-5L300 is intake and 13207-D4201 is exhaust

resurrecting old thread!!!!! anyone managed to change the seals whilst the head is still bolted on. Thinking of moving each piston to TDC when im working on them to stop the seals from falling inside.

The seals wont fall down its the valves that fall. You can do it by either using the compressed air method or filling the cylinder with rope from the spark plug hole. The hardest probably will be pulling the old seal off with the valve sticking in the way.

Ive replaced valve stem seals with head still on a few cars usibg comoressed air to hold valve up.

I dont think I would try on an rb25 though as the problem is levering the spring down to get the retainer off, the valves are sort of deep and not sure where ti lever from.

There is a heaps expensive tool to remove the retainers that you hit with a hammer, that would be perfect, but hard to justify.

Snap-On have the tools.

Not expensive when viewed in perspective.

Replacing those hard-as-wood valve stem seals is usually an easy fix to stop excessive smoke on over-run etc.

Removing the head will not only have the extra gasket's expense, but most owners will take the opportunity to give her a freshen up, re-seat valves, surface grind and so on.

Quickly runs into an expensive exercise, so don't drop a valve.

The tools are cheap I bought 2 a few years ago for when I did my springs with head on they were about 30 each I just had to grind it down abit since the diamater of the tool was to big to fit in rb.

this is the one ive found comes with the air hold for using with air compressor. Its quite and costly exercise to do seems like i have to get

Camshaft seals
Rocker cover seals with the half moons
Possibly timing belt aswell (I just changed mine barely 20k ago) but for insurance i will
Valve stem seals
and probably headgasket if i drop a valve in there.
