Hi guys, I just wanted to know if the Neo head in my Series 2 Stagea requires any regular maintenance or adjustments to be done?

Or are they virtually maintenance free?

I don't hear of anybody doing any adjustments or mechanics recommending anything that needs to be done to them at major service intervals etc so am curious.

Well, there is the cam belt if you count that, every 100k kms I think.

Neo heads have solid lifters, so after a long long time, they can require re-shimming/adjustment when the motor gets noisy.

Spark plugs are in the head too...tongue.gif

Yeah, timing belt, tensioner, water pump, etc I know about and get done religiously with All Nissan genuine parts, but it was more the adjustments to the valve train in the head.

Is there a recommended km range for preventative maintenance or just when the lifters get noisy?

Anybody got a R34 manual they can look up.

Solid lifters , didn't know that- just like the GTR engines?

Like the RB26.

I don't know the details, I've just heard people talking about it before. I don't know if they are adjustable (like my little old honda!) OR if they are just the type where you have to re-shim them. If its the latter, then you'll be paying 20 or 30 bucks just for an individual shim X24. Not something I'd do as preventative, more as a head re-fresh + valve guides, springs, etc.

But there should be some people here that know their way around a RB better than me.

^^^^^ agreed. I've never heard of anyone using rb26 cams in a neo nor can I see any benefit, there are plenty of affordable aftermatket cams ie tomei, and not to mention you would loose the VCT with 26 cams.

sorry, was supposed to say aftermarket rb26 cams.

but didnt the rb26 have VCT same as the 25's, was a different type of VCT, but could still use same sensor correct?

all i know is ive fitted them onto a bare rb25 neo head to see if they fit and they did.

then put the rb25 cams onto the 26 and they did fit too.

im also sure ive seen a thread somewhere (dont know if it was here or some other forum) about someone running 26 cams in their Neo

sorry guys, forgot the VCT vs CAS, got mixed up, my bad. but i did find one thread where i first looked into.

here you go
