agentx
Hi guys; My air con pulley was making noise according to my mechanic - he didn't seem confident in being able to pinpoint the exact name / type of the pulley - I've taken the belt off to get rid of the noise in the mean time... Can someone please tell me which pulley I need and whether its worthwhile getting a new one or just speak to wreckers? Couple of 36 degree days coming up so thought I'd fix this Thanks guys Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/386589-aircon-pulley/ Share on other sites

mad082
some aircon compressors can't have the pulley removed (or at least not to a point where you can get to the bearing). the best thing to do would be to talk to an aircon specialist. they will be able to look at the compressor and tell you whether it can be fixed/replaced or not. also wd40 is one of the worst lubricants on the face of the planet. it should only be used for lubing up things like door hinges, and kept away from anything that has high load or speeds. GTR-N1
Have you or your mechanic actually isolated the exact source of the noise eg by placing a wooden dowel (carefully) between your ear and the spindle and other likely spots? Wood tends to work better than plastic/metal of a screwdriver. agentx
*Edit* actually - coming to think of it, he did say it could be the idler pulley (I think) - can you get this thing new from the dealer or do I need to scour the wreckers? And by any chance, has anyone had the luxury of replacing it, easy? boostn0199
Id be saying its your idler pulley, the bearing has probably wasted. Happened to mine could see it wobbling if looking close at it and yeah easy just get a new 1 from wreckers and check for play in the bearing, Or if it actually is your pulley on the compressor I got a compressor I removed off my 33 can have it for 10bux.
