The rules are quite easy actually for import into NZ .. basically you can import almost any vehicle you like as long as it's built in in 2005 or newer ... the requirement was 2002 and newer up until the end of 2011 but I doubt you can get the car there today ;-)

I fear that your only option will be to sell the car here in Australia and just buy something else when you get to NZ.

I can clarify a little more for anyone else who needs more information too ... from 1st Jan 2012 you can only import cars to NZ which have a 3 digit emission code, this is the part listed before the chassis type on the build plate in the engine bay.

For example:

E-ECR33 (emission code E)

GF-EC5W (emission code GF)

.. and only cars built to emission standard "Japan 05" will have the newer 3 digit codes and these will be cars built from 2005 onwards.

haha sell your stag and buy my skyline, its sitting back in NZ doing nothing.

i dont know much about importing but NZ is super relaxed on modified cars.

good luck with the move, NZ is one awesome place if you set yourself up right.

No Stag is worth that sort of compliment unless there's white powder in the running boards.

But srsly, is it possible to totally dismantle the 'thing' and send it across as a container of parts? Can it even be complied? Doubt it - forget it!

Does that apply to a personal import??

NZ don't have a personal import scheme the same as Australia unfortunately. They simplified the rules to only allow newer cars meeting certain standards. There may be some way around it but nothing that I know of myself.

There are exceptions to the standards granted for migrants bringing their cars with them to NZ.

Here's a good place to start:
