Hi Guys,

Earlier today i was driving around, decided to give the car a bit of a run off the lights.

Changed into second while in second around 5000rpm it felt like i had hit the rev limitter, the car lost all power and was blowing a hell of a cloud of white smoke maybe with a tinge of blue out the rear when under load.

I decided to drive the car home, noticed that it wouldnt make boost, boost would go up to 0 psi. When i got home i popped the bonnet and had a look noticed that a fair section of the gasket between the turbo and the dump pipe was missing.

So i thought before i go thru the effort of removing the turbo since its like +35* outside i would see what peoples opinions where.

Note: S2 R33, Stock turbo, running about 12psi
Why does stupid Nissan put plastic/ceramic wheels on their turboes to save cost on such a critical component??
What the hell made you think it was to save cost? It was to save weight, pure and simlpe. And it was rather successful too. Against OEM equivalent turbos of the time, the rotating aseembly of the first ceramic turbos was a lot lighter than a stainless turbined unit. And then the plastic comp wheel was just extending the theme.

For an OEM application, with an expected lifespan on the road in Japan of <10 years, they were perfect.
