Hi i have a Viper alarm sytem Model 791 XV installed in my R32 GTR,

I have had countless issues with the alarm the first issue was i couldnt get the the keyless start to work as if it didnt crank over long enough for it to fire up.

So i ended up just starting using the key, An then after a while i started having trouble with starting it up from the ignition,

Eventually i took it to my local auto elec an he couldnt figure out how to get it all working so he just disconected the keyless start so i could start it from the ignition first go.

That worked fine for a while untill i lost my licence The car sat in the garage for 3 months an the battery ran dead. I ended up jump starting it an got the car going but the car wasnt reiceving the remotes signal, After a while of driving it the remote started working again thank god, Prob just took time for the reicever to kick in.

Anyway So what happened next, Yep you prob guessed it i lost my licence for 6 months an yer the battery went compleatly dead so i just brought a new one after doing a complete service oilchange, oil filter, fuel filter, put a new HKS ssq bov on, ect. The car seemed to run alright apart from it labouring abit on idle. So my new prob is my car alarm wont stop going off hazards an all, was funny as fark driving down my main street yesterday to go to the car wash then to go get fuel with the viper alarm going off. (You think if the alarm was going off the imobilisers would be working an i wouldnt beable to drive it at all hopefully thats the reason why its having trouble ideling?) My remotes sending a signal the cars there an also the car is recieving one too because its beeping while the alarm is sounding, But nothings working on the remote, ill push the unlock button an the lcd screen on the remote will show a picture of the door opening but nothing happens to the car the alarm just keeps going off whenever i bump it or open a door. What do i do my mate tried receting it by the manual an made sure it wasnt in Valo mode. After the mechanic turned off the keyless start the keyless entry still worked so i dont think it was that to blame hopefully?. An yer an the guy who installed it has shut up shop prob not half obvious why. If anyone can help i get my licence back on the 21st of this month an i dont want to be driving it like its stolen sirens an all lol

Maybe it compleatly needs reprograming i wouldnt know boys any help would be really appreciated.

Thanks,

oiginalgodzila

do me a favor...

finish telling everyone where you live I need parts for a GTR..

(have a think about whatI just said)

NOW:

alarms take a small amount of current to run. given that you have left the car sit for 3-6 months straight with the battery connected you have killed two batteries. the wise thing to do would be the next time you decide to be an idiot and lose your licence you park the car and pull the negative terminal off.

now for the alarm. could you have purchased ANYTHING worse. if you are using that for your specialist insurance as a Oz stds unit then you are in for a rude shock WHEN the car gets stolen.

791 is a convienence unit - far from the best thing to use for security on a GTR.

rip it out find an installer worth his salt and get the job done properly. forget the wank features as the RS side of it is illegal in every state. that also includes the new iphone based one.

I beg to differ viper (direct electronics ) alarms are some of the best when installed right. and mechanics dont fark them. but they do need proper sensors to comply with the ghey ADR rules. australia has a horrible amount of car theft for the size country vs. people its disgusting , way worse then USA

the back up battery would kill the car battery over time, on any alarm left sitting on . till the battery died in the siren for good. .

and since its school holidays ......battery backup alarms cant be silenced by dropping the siren in a bucket of water or sealing in dynamat either. . I tried one so the kids wouldnt have too on my old alarm sitting around for giggles

from the sounds of things you need to learn how to drive without loosing your license first, while taking english language grammer .. not all of us read netslang well when we troubleshoot something FFS

sell the car and buy a scooter , you dont need remote start in OZ

and you sound like a menace on the roads.

and chris is right, you need to think about what you wrote, common sense !!!!! let me guess you have photos etc on failbook of the car ?

sorry but there has been a rash of thefts in adelaide and this burns my ass when people dont think before dragging the pride and joy into the hood to be fondled by crims overnight

troy,

I was aiming that at the insurance angle. I AM a fan of the older 460/480XV as that does what its designed to do. just not a fan of the 791.

DEI do make good product but the labour portion (IE you and I.) is its major downfall.

yeah 791 eats batterys on the remotes ..lol and they dont like battery discharges on the main car battery , it cuts the life of the backup siren in half every time

I see DEI sells the remote start/gps trackers in australia now. havent asked about ADR approval since remote start wasnt legal before in OZ

as you said, installed properly it can delay a car theft. as well as any others. but thats where most alarms fail. the install is crap slap job by some ass clown with no pride in there work and loves mad customer returns to "tweek the settings from false alarms or fix bad connections" haha

those reading at home ... beware of car dealer ,mechanics or auto electrical people fixing car alarms. a fair few are clueless and will blame the alarm when its nothing to do with the alarm. alarms installed right , failure rates are less then 5% I bet across all the brands combined. except rusty factory pinswitches and remotes run thru the washer .lol

they dont fail often unless monkeys play with the wires

Apart from the point of my post i lost my licence driving home hungover an then got done driving while disqualified shit happens, But that and my grammer are besides the point any REAL answers will be appreciated!!!

Does it sound like it needs to be reprogramed? The alarm only goes off when i bump the car or start the ignition. The remote is receiving but not working..........

what channel is the remote on. in all honesty it sounds more like a poor install to me.

I second that , the car hasn't been wired right , and most likey needs more disable points as well

replace the remote battery with a decent battery , not cheap as chips one. the remotes are touchy and sometimes leave the battery out for a little while then try again. the remote chris is on channel 1 as stock on that alarm. upper left and right button pushed one at a time to lock, unlock disarm.

does the alarm remote see the car , it has the little display on it showiing transmit and receive ? does it show violations, impacts or doors open when armed , if the parkers are flashing when driving the alarm siren is turned off but the alarm is armed. and not seeing the ignition signal. wiring wrong !!! I can't explain why on a open forum , it would give criminals a clue sorry

new remotes run near 200 retail in oz for that model but now you can use your iphone or andriod app and ditch the remote with the addition of the new module for GPS tracking /remote start as option ? think that cost about 300-400 not installed and a yearly fee (no idea if that is legal per ADR or not - disclamer) it wasnt in the past

plus the battery backup siren is most likely roasted from the sounds of it, it keeps draining the battery .even when you get a new car battery the siren with issues will drain it guick. around $100 for a new one same brand or jaycar special , name brand is best option

I think what were saying is be responsible driving..... that extra info on your bad driving habits wasn't nessasary for us to hear to resolve your issues and didnt come across well ? and please use some grammer not net speak abbreviations when asking questions, this goes for everyone on the boards not just you

thank you come again

The Remote and car are both reiceving, The digital display does symbolise when the door opens or when i press lock an unlock, I can still lock my car manually and the alarm is still armed but the remote just doesnt work even after i have changed the battery. Your right it does sound like a Bad wiring job. Ive organized for a mobile auto mechanic to come look at it in the morning. I'll explain all of the above to him.

Thanks for the heads up on scum in this world its in a very safe place an also for your help mate.

    • In a few years from now, you'll regret that. It'll eat away at you, knowing the truth of the ugly hiding beneath the beautiful exterior... 馃槢
    • I don't think the G2 profile is particularly dangerous for the engine per se, more just are you actually ok with the turbo lag trade-offs? If the answer is yes then go for it. I personally don't think I'd be ok with it because I spend so much time at lower RPMs and I really enjoy the feeling of being able to stay in 5th gear on the highway and just roll into the throttle to get boost. Or staying in 3rd gear on "gentle canyon cruises" without feeling the turbo lag too badly. The 525 pump should be able to run flat out on factory lines but I would bet the pressure drop from pump to regulator is quite impressive. I don't know how much it would be exactly but I've seen figures like 30 psi thrown around.
    • It's interesting seeing everyone talk about what level of risk they are happy to tolerate.  Building a GTR always has a level of risk, you could be that lucky guy that drops 20k on the engine build alone and still has the thing go pop on the dyno. Life is fun like that.  The way I see it, the thing is a toy to be enjoyed. I'd be happy to turn up the power on stock motor and limit the risk with sensible tuning and engine protection. If it still goes pop, it is what it is. The car isn't a daily driver so it can happily sit while a plan is made to sort it out.  Given this thing will be a street car only, I really feel it's worth the (relatively small if managed well) risk to turn the power up to around 350KW on e85.  I don't think anyone getting into the skyline game now is doing it out of logic. Surely it is a purely emotional decision so I'm not sure how important it is to think about the engine build logically. The heart wants what it wants.  @joshuaho96 little note for Josh, I run my 525 pump flat out all the time and through the factory lines without any issues. (excluding the melting connectors, that's sorted now. we'll pretend it never happened lol)
    • But the Nexus S3 is very expensive and won't be as purpose-built for the application as a separate electronic boost controller :^) More seriously my pet issue here would be that the Walbro 525 running at 100% duty cycle is going to require more FPR than the stock setup can handle. I'm also pretty sure from what I've seen elsewhere you might want to slow down the pump regardless unless you're going to come up with some way of upsizing the fuel lines coming from the fuel tank. Factory 8mm fuel line doesn't actually flow very much if you want to keep pressure drop down between the fuel pump outlet and FPR. If you really want to "keep it simple" I would run only as much pump as you need and source a fuel pump controller to slow down the pump in the vain hope of being able to run stock-style FPRs which are pretty dinky. Or just use the HICAS lines and it should be mostly fine. OP should also really think hard about what profile they'd want out of the turbo. My pet choice here would be the G1 profile rather than anything higher power but YMMV. I already think ~stock turbo lag is pretty bad so I don't want to make it worse. In "gentle canyon cruising" I found that I spent a lot of time around 4-4.5k RPM. I also recommend DIYing labor if you're detail-oriented enough. Costs are high for labor + if you do it yourself you can be your own quality control.
    • GTSBoy is again on the money. My actual advice? Sell the car. (really). For what it's worth as is, you can sidegrade into something much better. If you care about function then this is the actual move. If you want a Skyline to perform, set aside about $100K to do it. This is NOT a typo. You will see right away these are two very different mindsets. Realistically we're talking full restomod for any Skyline still kicking around. Have an honest think about which one you are.. and what you want to do, and how much you want to invest in this (with no return).
