hi guys bit of a nooby question to ask but can a R33 or R34 exhaust be used on a stagea?

As i am looking to upgrade at this point in time, just need to be steered into the right direction.

thanks mat

Yes and no - they would have to be adapted. Turbo back would be ok but the bend over the axle won't be right and in any case the R34 is a shorter car than the R33 so both are different. Hangers may need to be rewelded. I am assuming you are looking to do this because of the unavailbility of Stagea parts but Stagea specific systems can be ordered from Japan through Nengun and various other exporters.

Yeah I thought that would be the case...was looking to save a bit of coin by using one of a R33 or R34 but I guess I'll have to bite the bullet and spend some decent coin on a good system...I noticed that nengun do sell exhaust systems and just jap do have them sometimes...are there any other sites that do full exhaust systems?

RHD Japan and Import Monster.

If you know the unit you want, Import Monster or Jesse Streeter can send them over.

that's the thing i have no idea what i want or what i'm looking at to be honest.

i just want something that will sound nice and have a good note to it and something that will have a good flow

so if someone could help me out with this and "dumb it out" and explain different types ect. because i have some idea but not a complete specifics.

really appreciate any help

hey mate,

i just finished my exhaust on the weekend. I used a r33 dump pipe which fitted perfectly and used half of a 180sx exhaust coz it has the right bend in it to go around the gearbox, then just added 1m of straight pipe and it fitted up perfect. Cost me about 150 all up for the complete exhaust from turbo back...

Great feedback guys really appreciate it.

I'm thinking about either just get a 3 inch SS custom made

Or I'll purchase a hks exhaust off just jap...is that where you purchased it from lilcrash? If so is it cat back or turbo back?

Purchased my Kakimoto N1 catback from import monster for 760+ a few more hundred for delivery it was extremely quiet for a 3" exhaust system so, Had the rear muffler just after the cat removed and had a bit of 3" SS piping put in place.

Very happy with the sound now and sounds very unique highly recommended.

Hey Midnight,

lilcrash has the right idea with the bellmouth dump pipe down to the cat, youll get a better spoolup with less restriction at the wastegate.

Your other option is to keep looking on justjap and get a shortie split dump for about the same cash. the split pipe then needs a dump down to the cat.

The benefit of both these is the wastegate gas and the waste gas dont get confused and bump into each other near the back of the turbo.

I'm not looking to start an argument about which brand as many people are partial to type, some manufacturers make claims which are true to the specific test subject setup they use in their product development with regard to power outputs at rpms etc.

I dont have a dump pipe yet.:ermm:

Mine has a magnaflow cat (i know there are better ones out there), the rest of my system is a custom built 3 " with a jun spiral on the back, we can catch up and i can show you how simple it is if you like.

Any reason why stainless other than it looking cool?

If all you want is a change in note on your stock system, take off the rear muffler and put some straight pipe on.

Or, get the catback on and save up for the rest as you go if all you want is a nice note with an improvement in flow.

Any way it goes if your system is straighter and has a greater diameter than your stockie its an improvement.

Do the sums on parts and then find out how much for fitting it. (the last thing you want to do is snap a bolt on the back of your exhaust housing)

Go somewhere quality for the install / build, ie Everlast at the gully or Exhaust Technology at goodwood.

Remember your car will drive differently and it will take a little time to become accustomed to your car's new feel.

hi springteen,

im looking to get something to improve flow, get a bit more power and a better note as thestock exhaust is beginning to annoy me.

im also relatively new to how the flow works through the exhaust as i have never owned a turbo car.

if you could spare some time to talk through to me how it all works and the best way to go about it...i really dont mind spending some decent coin because you get what you pay for.

thanks mat

i might be throwing my HKS hi power silent up for sale as i want to go larger.

got 200cell stainless cat, metal matrix, 3" system with mid muffler into 4 or 5" tip.

all you need to mate it with is a nice dump pipe.

sounds very smooth and deep.

and @springteen

how will you need to get used to the car? it will still handle/ drive the same, except that your acceleration will be faster by about 0.5 seconds...
