Thanks for telling me what I am thinking guilt toy.

I still havent made the purchase because we only just started getting some good input on this.

I think you might need to excuse yourself from this conversation until you can contribute rather than saying this is bad, and I can't back it up.

But seeing as huped6 went through all that effort posting a good argument I am beginning to get swayed.

I suppose my choice lies between id's or sard ey...

But that wasnt it really, I just had other ideas I had dismissed, Hyped post revived them so i looked into it and it looks good, plus now I can get the parts locally..

Spray Patterns are very important.

I cant go into detail, because its Friday night and I couldn't be bothered. But we have seen huge reductions in EGTs with good (correct) injector spray patterns.

Think of the combustion chamber, with fuel and air in it...... now think of a spray pattern like a hose. Nice and straight and direct into the combustion chamber.

Now Imagine a spray pattern that isn't just a big cone but distributes the fuel evenly over the port and through the combustion chamber.

OK...... hopefully.... you have some sort of idea of the combustion process. Now the spark plug starts the flame, If we have a hose spray, then where the flame starts you might have a big chunk of fuel, then a massive pocket of air, then a correct mixture of air and fuel then another big chunk of fuel...... and finally another big chunk of oxygen....... by the way Oxygen = heat, Just like oxy acetylene.

This is what melts pistons, and creates detonation and just makes a poor tune in general.

I don't need to explain what a good atomizing injector does, I think that's pretty self explanatory, heat dissipation, complete combustion and correct flame propagation.

Now to the people that think this is utter nonsense, and it doesn't matter what happens on the inside because there AFR's are correct, we recently ran 153 mph in a 3200 pound car with a standard 1JZ. No cams, no springs, no pistons...... nothing. And guess what. It lived.

Google a drag calculator and see what it tells you the power its making. You may be surprised

Its funny, when I was first learning about tuning I thought a certain set of injector spray pasterns actually looked very good. The spark plugs where very white indicating a lot of heat. We changes to a different style of injectors, tuned the engine in the same fashion and the plugs where light brown. We actually stopped melting pistons at this stage to

A trained eye can pick a good spray pattern, but quality equipment will tell you what is right or wrong for your application.

i have tuned perfectly good 30/25's with hi flowed injectors and had no dramas. I have also found "quality" injectors on smaller engine to be rubbish.

How does one test spray pattern.

I hate to say it, trial and error. But look at the droplets. Don't look at the pattern. Its the size of the droplets and where they are is the key factor. The pattern plays a big part in this directly through distribution.

Yes I would prefer to sit on the fence on this one, especially seeing that I do not want to rubbish any particular brand on a public forum, its very easy to get banned on here these days....

What I was trying to do was push the subject that you cannot go wrong with getting the best injectors for your application as possible. Not something made in china, not something that sprays like a garden hose, detonation and pre-ignition and all those nasties are best to be avoided at all costs.

you can use china manifolds and turbo's, they don't piss me off as much as shitty injectors and fuel system's do.

maybe its personal, but after battling with countless issues that were later confirmed to be related to the injectors used on the car you kinda like to make sure its right the first time.

what injectors did you end up buying ? i still think the Nismo 740's are the go!

It all makes sense once you start to think about it, better spray, better burn, better power, better economy, better emissions..

What comes out is all dependant on what you put in...

Now top feed DWs aren't really any cheaper than other brands so maybe they are just as good quality.

But I am just not confident yet that these sidefeed DWs are a quality item, or just an item made on the cheap to sell to a niche customer..

So i'm opting for some new tech instead..

Gettting Nismos would just be boring ...Originally I was keen to keep it all looking stock with the rail and all, but I think I already crossed that line when I put the huge EG in there..

Im Still keeping my stock airbox though :laugh:

So I'm getting a stubby EV14 style (Xspurt) injector, 750cc should cover me (only other option was 2000cc), will have a adj reg anyway should I need a little extra..the 1000cc injectors are 15mm longer so not sure yet if they will fit yet. I will try get some to test cause it looks like they will, but saying they will fit is one thing, actually getting them in there is another matter.

Honestly, with rail and reg It will cost about the same as Nismos in the end, but I think should be better. They're meant to have great idle qualities and easy tunablity. Plus once its all setup they are much cheaper to replace or change for bigger items..

The issue I see with picking a good spray pattern is what pressure do you test them at, my Bosch 1000's start off at 35psi base and run around 70psi on boost obviously this will change the droplet size and cone shape. Also, where would you want the mist aiming in the port?

I must admit though, my plugs are lasting much longer with the 1000's over the last tune with the Deka 610's but I did change quite a few other parts at the same time. :whistling:

Artz, I think its a great idea, I just hope the Neo rail lines up ok.

but Im not getting neo rail I looked into it but its too bulky and I think it would stuggle to fit, so just getting aftermarket rail and reg..

you have to rememebr we are talking about sidefeeds, yours are topfeed so choices are much easier..

Id say just go ID ,bosch, or Xspurt and you cant go wrong, they are all based around the same design anyway

DWs are probably ok too but they arent really any cheaper, so I would just get whatever you can find locally..

DWs are about 550$, plus shipping your looking at 600$..you should find bosch injectors locally for much the same price. I did.. :thumbsup:

Don't have stockies here to compare but here is some photos. Will be picking up my stock ones to compare in a few days though as I am also curious if I am going to have to paint them or not.

Ok so stock injectors aren't purple, they are a dark grey ish colour. I went to a model shop and bought some paint for $6 and painted mine with a cotton bud, looks 100% identical to the stockers now, only took about 30 minutes to do as well.

Win.

    • I've replaced the front brakes of my NA to 324 brembos and 350z calipers: i'm going for 225/40-18 up front and 245/35-18 in the back. I have Rays 7.5*19 ET35(225/35) in the front with 5mm spacers otherwise the calipers "lock up/ won't rotate". When i use the calculator i come up with 8*18 ET30 for 225/40...... but not sure i get problems with the calipers. Anyone riding around with 18 inch. that can confirm "that it'll fit"? In the back it's 7.5*9 ET30 (245/30) with the 5mm spacers, but there is no problem with the standard small brakes, so i want to take 8.5*18 ET25 (245/35).

    • Glad to hear. If possible, get your tuner to check air's to make sure everything is still where it should be.
    • The problem with FB/Insta/Reddit etc comments relating to cars is simple. You get to ask a question once, and get one round of replies. For things that can actually be answered in a few lines of text, once, it's fine. After 6 hours, your original question is lost to the void. There are no follow ups, additional questions, anything. No project car is ever such a simple list of questions to ask. You need discussion.
    • Welcome.  Here's what I have noticed about forum vs FB..... FB; seems to be wallet racing, and the same few questions asked over and over. There *may* be some groups that are closer knit, but most have changed for the worse. SAU; unfortunately, no longer in its glory days. But....genuine people with similar interests. Not all about how much you spent and saying you dont have enough power. Sooooooo much knowledge available. Have personally seen people post up about literally topics I made myself, asking on FB like no one has done it before. Most has been done, and most of that is here.   If you ever feel like just general chatting theres the wasteland.  Other interests are also generally covered in other areas of the forum.
