Iv got a set of low km R33 GTR springs for my engine, but my engine is a throw away std RB20 so not worth the expense of new springs...your Rb30 i would be getting some nice aftermarket springs , i know of some new Greddy valve springs for an RB26 that are going for about $500 (i can ask if you are seriously looking for some, they may have been $50 either side , i cant remember)

im sure some sets of springs are more expensive then others, but i suppose its a matter of what you need, rather then forking out big money simply because they are a top of the range big name springs. Sorry im not really able to tell ou what a fair price is

OK well the time has come for me to stop talking and get it going. my only concern is fitting these things myself. if im going to do it myself i need to know whether im going to cause any damage or not! I have read into getting 1st piston to TDC. once i have done this, is it just a simple process of loosening the timing belt etc and pulling everything off and bolting the GTR cams in place? is there anything i should look out for. and while im at it would it be worth while going adj cam gears? (its begining to get expensive!)

Sydneykid: what sort of gains would you expect to see with this mod. is it worth doing if im only running a HKS2530 turbo?

What turbo set up is everyone running here?

Ive got a 2530 and just wonder what sort of gains to expect on a smallish turbo.

I should be getting my cams this week too! I figure while its all apart it is the best time to throw some adj. cam gears, so ill get some of the OS Giken ones that are pretty cheap at the moment.

so ill keep you posted.

Im out...not worrying about cams anymore, the thing is getting tuned and thats it. The old 170,000km Rb20 aint worth the money... all up installed and tuned it was going to cost me almost what a set of forged pistons are worth, got to start thinking about what will replace the RB20, ans stop spending money on it...still be great to hear the results.

Depends on engine condition and tuning, around 20 to 25 rwkw average power increase from 4,000 rpm to 7,500 rpm, boost about 5% earlier the rpm range. More power off boost as well, plus a nice little lump to the idle. and more growl as the rpm builds. Shoot, I do it just for the sound, the extra power is a bonus.

sydneykid they are some pretty awesome power gains considering the cost of gtr cams.

if thats the case i think i will get these babies in before i get the ecu tuned.

thanks for the info! oh and if its going to sound even better - hell yeah they are going in asap! hah

armbrusb, im having trouble with the std AFM signal maxing out and shutting the whole party down at anything over 1bar... i need to have limiter removed and possibly a Z32afm

OooH, I should add, as long as your turbo is capable of providing the airflow.

They sound like fantastic gains. Would aftermarket 256 or 264 cams offer much gains over the GTR cams?

No so much 256's, I have tried 264's, but keep in mind it is the extra lift that makes the difference, and you need valve springs to match. The 264's gave another 15 rwkw max power, but the usuable rpm range went up the scale. So we had to use 5,000 to 8,500 rpm to get good average power. This is not good rpm for a standard internals RB20DET with some k's on it.

The GTR cams are a good cheap and easy upgrade, it gets more expensive and risky the further you go.

Will be able to tell u what they did after the rest of the engine is back together and running, which will be this weekend.

Am running everything to comfortablely get 250rwks. But am only running a stock RB25 turbo ATM, until the engine is run in.

Like Sydneykid said, i would be happy if i just got some lumpy exhaust note out of it.
