Ahh32
Most probably a HKS2540R. Will be spending hours on dyno with laptop and eprom burner, re-mapping and perfecting the tuning of the std ECU Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/38857-rb26-camshafts-in-rb20/page/4/#findComment-857034 Share on other sites
RBVS
does anyone know if the 25 cams are interchangeable with 20 and 26. if so would the 26 or 20 cams have more or less lift. Is the reason no one upgrades with other rbs to the 25 cams because of vvt. Anyone tryed? bbenny
well i pick up my GTR cams today and will install them on my day off this monday, will book some dyno time hopefully on wed and then post the results for everyone! Sydney kid: would you recomend spending a few more $$ and going some adj cam gears? is it worth it or should i just throw the std cam gears onto the GTR camshafts?? Well bbenny, since you have to remove the std ones anyway, it is time efficient. You will get a better result, more in average power than max. Bottom line is, it's your money. Chris32
Sydneykid - quick question, I want to reposition my throttle body at the front of my plenum, what are your thoughts on this? I am not doing it to see any power gain, just to get rid of some inlet piping and make it easier to adjust cams gears etc Chris Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/38857-rb26-camshafts-in-rb20/page/4/#findComment-857724 Share on other sites
Sydneykid
I want to reposition my throttle body at the front of my plenum, what are your thoughts on this? Hi Chris, I don't like it, wouldn't do it to my car, not worth the effort. Do a search, I have written pages on why. Chris32
Cheers Sydneykid, I searched long and hard, and have read pretty well everything I can So is it worth using a 120degree bend, or jusy keeping it all stock? Sorry all about the change of topic, but its all relevent to our mods and something I was considering Regards, Chris Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/38857-rb26-camshafts-in-rb20/page/4/#findComment-858282 Share on other sites

So definitely worth doing in my opinion. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/38857-rb26-camshafts-in-rb20/page/4/#findComment-858289 Share on other sites
Chris32
Ok cool, would be cheaper than re-locating the trottle body anyhow And of much more benefit! bbenny
Well i picked up my GTR cams and they are in unbeleivable condition (thanks T88 on board) they have only done 30,000kms and look fantastic. Re: adj cam gears Yeah its defenantly a convenient time to change, but also adds another $399 to this mod. if its only going to add maybe 5rwkw i wont bother but if it makes substantial gaines i will do it while its all apart. comsidering i just clicked over 100K kms the other day i will be fitting a new belt, and am now considering adj cam gears. do you think it would be worth while sydney kid or just put that $399 towards suspension tweaks for the quarter? thanks. Roy
I have a 120 degree bend setup, and took a bit of work to get clear the oil filler cap, PCV valve and hoses and still be a nice and tight fit, but can be done. I would definitely recommend spending a Saturday cutting and trial fitting to get a good result, then throwing a case of beer at somons to weld up for you, nice tight fit and as others have stated cuts down a few litres of internal volume... ...the race is on to see who gets dons first...is anybody doing a before/ after run...im working on a guy to tune/clean up the maps with std cams, then GTR cams and cam gears to get a feel for the difference, as my before power figure is with a faulty AFM and A/F in the 9s and 10s...so the improvement from the tune alone should be pretty dramatic. As for tough idles, try mega rich with fouled plugs, talk about lumpy idle (Go the Japs with their crazy rich A/Fs) Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/38857-rb26-camshafts-in-rb20/page/4/#findComment-858626 Share on other sites
Chris32
cool, i might look at doing the bend rather than cut and shut the plenum Picked up my exhaust manifold today (cheers drifta32) so one more piece to the puzzle waiting to be put in place Can't wait to get it all underway now!! bbenny
so what do all you guys think of adj cam gears? is it worth the extra expense? what are your experiences. i need info as i will be doing the cams this monday. cheers! Sydneykid
so what do all you guys think of adj cam gears? is it worth the extra expense? what are your experiences You know you want to do it all at once, you just want us to give you an excuse. OK here goes...... Correcting/optimising the camshaft timing will improve the average power (10 maybe 15 rwkw) so that it doesn't drop off boost on gearchanges = faster and nicer car to drive. Better throttle response and, as a bonus, maybe 10 rwkw max power increase. I have done one car, not ours, that made 18 rwkw more max power and 25 rwkw more average from 5,500 to 8,500 rpm after fitting the adj pulleys. But it took a fair retune to get it there, ignition and fuel where all over the place (perfect before cams and pulleys). It also had a big Turbonetics turbo on it, so it had the airflow capacity. Better balance the books here, we also put and adj exhaust camshaft pulley on an R34 GTT expecting to get more out of the cams (not GTR). Best position was zero, so we took it off and sold it. A $50 (and 1 hours work) experiment well spent I'd say. If they don't do anything, they are easy to sell. How was that, convinced? bbenny
haha you should work in retail sydney kid, you know too well what i want to hear any particular base setting you found worked well on the RB20? i might give it a try and see how it goes, the only thing is ill be doing it all at once, so i wont know whether it was better than the std cam gear or not. well i will let you all know how it goes hopefully by tuesday. Sydneykid
any particular base setting you found worked well on the RB20?so i wont know whether it was better than the std cam gear or not. Hi, it's the usual RB settings, +2 on the inlet and -4 on the exhaust. Ours didn't like that much on the exhaust, we ended up around -3. Sure you can, just do one power run with both cams at zero. Fitzpatrick Speed Works
make sure you reset your base timing in between changing cam degrees, often forgoten about but very important!!
