GTRAAH
As its not a performance part or tuning , basically any average mechanic or mechanically minded person would be able to do this. Doeas anyone know off anyone? Im willing to help if needed. Whats the costs involved. PS: Car is an R32 GTR 1994 Edited January 18, 2012 by GTRAAH Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/388612-smalltiny-oil-leak-main-gear-box-seal-possibly-rear-seal/ Share on other sites
MrStabby
If you want to do it yourself (or with a mate helping) check out the clutch change DIY in my sig for some clues. Consider doing the clutch at the same time if its old. Wild stab in the dark for cost, around $500, or whatever a clutch change costs. GTRAAH
where are you located? i can do it No need for a clutch change yet as the clutch is only 2 years old and its not my daily driver im in sydney Near the liverpool area, What would you charge if i give you a hand? i can probably even drive to you. Ps: I do my own service for the car, Fuel filter, OIl, Oil filter, Spark plugs, brake pads, Discs... But that about all i have touched with my car on my own, so its not asif im totally clueless about everything on the car, I have even changed the whole dashboard on my own as well as cluster, All interior bits ive torn apart and put back together... but when it comes to bigger mechanical things like that I'd rather some help or someone else with experience Edited January 18, 2012 by GTRAAH Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/388612-smalltiny-oil-leak-main-gear-box-seal-possibly-rear-seal/#findComment-6194444 Share on other sites
GTRsean
Probably the rubber boot that the gear shifter goes into. They are notorious for splitting over time and causing oil to run down the middle to back end of gbox/transfer case to the bottom of box. Pm me if you want me to check it out etc... DVS JEZ
Yep. And it may also be the rocker cover gaskets leaking and oil running down the back of the motor. Best to clean and recheck before pulling the gearbox out Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/388612-smalltiny-oil-leak-main-gear-box-seal-possibly-rear-seal/#findComment-6194557 Share on other sites

They are notorious for splitting over time and causing oil to run down the middle to back end of gbox/transfer case to the bottom of box. Telltale sign for that boot's death is fumes through the shifter boot at highway cruise. Bsa
Transmission fumes one of the worst smelling oils going I recon it's rocket cover gaskets and the half moons they are very common to go if not replaced I can check it out this weekend as I'll be down that way Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/388612-smalltiny-oil-leak-main-gear-box-seal-possibly-rear-seal/#findComment-6195174 Share on other sites
