Hello SAU,

I have recently experienced the problem where my tail lights and interior dash lights were not working (Headlights, Brake Lights, small cluster lights e.g. door, ABS etc still works). I have spent the last week researching online for a fix and there were plenty of helpful articles that helped me narrow down what the problem was but it did not fix my problem.

How my problem started:

Wired up aftermarket Head unit and earthed it out what supposely what I thought was the "Earth" wire on the OEM Loom as it was BLACK. You need to earth it out onto the chassis and not into this wire as this is part of the "illumination circuit" , this resulted in blowing the "Tail light" fuse in the fuse box located inside the cabin just above the gas pedal.

Those of you who have already checked the fuses, Please check them on BOTH ends. I had checked the TAIL LIGHT fuse with the volt meter and it showed 12v going to it, but I made the mistake of only checking one end which made me overlook the fact that the fuse was blown.....

For those of you who fuse boxes are in Japanese, here is the link for the English translated version:

The fuse you are looking for is the 10A Tail Light Fuse.

Now there are other reasons the dash and tail light may not be working such as the "Head Light" switch, but if you have recently installed an aftermarket head unit or shorted something out in the car this will be the first thing you should all do before getting into the more complicated things like I did....

I thought I share this with everyone as now I can take the GTR out at night

I hope this helps.

Cheers,

Tony

Can I make a suggestion - when testing a fuse with a meter, use ohms (resistance) across the blades of the fuse. That way you will always know whether the fuse is intact or blown.
