Hey guys,

Anyone got some tips or ideas for mounting the 044 as an intank pump?

Searched the forum and only for one article about it where a guy used an EB falcon fuel sock attached to it

I can't find a fuel sock anywhere no shops stock them or anything. Ideas would be great

Thanks

No because you shouldn't do it.

an 044 pump is a feed pump ONLY it will not draw fuel like a walbro or any of them correct intake pump, unless it is gravity feed these pumps will fail.

This is why there is no information for you to search.

Dont listen to this guy^^^

Car is a R33 right? I just modified the cradle and used some clamps to fit the pump and also fitted a new clean sock (old one was brown).

I purchased the fitting kit for an 044 through JEM - ingleburn.... Its just a sock that goes on the base of the 044..... They look like a bitch to fit though due to the size of the pump!!!

I read the DIY on installing fuel pumps on this site this morning after swapping pumps with a mate last night, was a PITA :glare:

Is it worth the hassel?

Someone just pmed me saying the following:

These pumps are a pain to fit up.

They need the factory bracket cut off and then the pump is clamped to the bracket.

Factory steel fuel pipe has to be removed from the bracket too.

The height on the bracket is critical or the pump won't suck all the fuel, car will conk out on 1/4 tank.

You have to do this just right too or the clamps will foul inside the tank, even then the pump body is a bit too large to fit easily and heaps of force is needed to get it on and off the bracket's slot again.

I modified a hose barb (removed the barbs) and then the stock sock pushed over nice and tight.

Wiring needs to be altered as the terminals are much larger than factory. Make sure you don't get positive and negative back to front.

The pump is supposed to have a non-return valve on the outlet. Usually this costs another $30.

If you run it without the valve (as I did in the photos) the fuel drains back to the tank overnight and you have to do a few key on-offs to prime the rail in order to start the engine. Gets annoying so I pulled the pump, bought and fitted the valve.

This then needed a touch up of the tune, car had some lean spots as the valve is very restrictive.

The 044 is very, very noisy, usually because it's touching some part of the tank inside.

This is so hard to get correct as it's a bastard of a job to remove and re-try

I'll never buy another 044 but back then the other options weren't so readily available as they are today.

Tomei etc make a drop in pump, no hassles.

Regards.

the noise issue can helped a lot by getting some fuel resistant PVC tube from clark rubber and using metal worm drive clamps to hold the pump to the stock bracket with the PVC between.

i used to have pictures of my pump attached to the bracket but i am unsure where i put them.

The 34GTR pump was noisy in my car as it was hard mounted, however i found the Walbro we pulled out of my mates car has a jacket on it and it was apparently still loud anyway?

Here is a pic of the bracket with the end cut off and the clamps, its nowhere near the size of the Bosch units etc but its more so for the posts above -

When I do mine im going to make a tutorial on how to do it.

Where did you get the fuel sock from? I searched everywhere in fyshwick yesterday and no one sells them

its the stock one off the stock pump.

fittings were from pirtek, pvc tube from clark rubber.

I might just kick back and wait for this tutorial :D

So Titan, comparing to other fuel pumps, the noise is OK?

    • Hah, I have no issues with what you are doing whatsoever! You clearly know what you are getting yourself into. It's just funny reading things like this. "What's that noise?" "Oh, that's normal. That's just the engine not getting any oil. Nothing to worry about. It'll go away in a moment"
    • Yeah I'm keeping an eye on it and might take it out as a once off if this doesn't fully charge. I did some research that said it's normal in equalisation charging. Voltage I thought was 20+ (faulty battery in multimeter) but now its on 15.9v, the max it should go to is 16.2v as per the manual. I'll provide an update once hopefully it's actually fully charged and in float mode. Waiting for it to go to 16.2v and not higher and see what happens. What I suspect has happened is that even though it's not an old battery, I did leave the car turned off for almost 4 weeks at one point then left it off for another 2 weeks which might have erroded the battery and is taking a long time to do this equlisation charge.
    • I wouldn't be using the seats a lot since it's on Historic rego and will not be driven a lot, however I also don't want to fork out 3k for something that won't last. Havent looked at BRZ seats, aiming for something of the same era I did speak to him on the phone once, and I do see your point haha. How many kms do you think you drove before they started wearing out? Just had a look at yours, certainly looking for a reclinable version. The Brides don't look too bad! I would still like to sit in one just to make sure it's what I'm after.    Thanks for the replies fellas.
    • I bought my Bride reps from Crank Motorsport. He is, um, a trifle disorganised. I would have to look back at the e-mails to make sure I got it right, but I think he sent me normal fabric ones when I ordered the "Alcantara" ones. So he had to pay for shipping 3x and I'm sure that f**ked him off big time. And asking technical questions where nuanced English is required is a no go. It's simple English only. And....should I have bought the Alcantara ones? Well, as it turns out, they are great, feel great, etc, but the fabris wore through on the point of the waist bolster in <2 years. Must have caught a rip from a rivet on jeans or shorts, or something like that. So now I have to patch it somehow. A bit shit. My fault, ultimately, because it is Chinesium Faux Alcantara, not the real thing, and it turns ot that it has the tear resistance of a soggy tissue. But the seats and the reails are great. I probably should have gotten the R34 style ones, and now that they price is up in that ridiculous sort of number, I could have sold them for a profit!
    • Another recco is to just let it rest for a while and go back and reconnect later.
