Hmmmm. My mistake. I was going off NDSOC club criteria, which allows a few non-marque cars including GTR's, although GTSt's are all excluded......interesting that all 911's are included though.

Here is the MSCA current competition page for Vic.

NRB, while your putting new pads in, make sure you bleed the brake fluid, or even better, just replace it all with something like Motul DOT 5.1. Brake bleeding is not hard.

I have seen that a couple of times Geoff, I think it must be the old "GTR's were sold here" rubbish. After all it was only R32 GTR's, but they seem to ignore that and accept R33 GTR's and R34 GTR's as well. Snobbery keeps the "poor man's" GTST out though. I just enter those sorts of events as;

Make = Nissan

Model = Skyline R32

Don't mention GTR or GTST, they just assume it's a GTR and you are in.

SydneyKid - Ben is now using Bridgestone RE55's and he swears by them. He claims they give him at least a second over anything else he's used before.

Is he still running those slick tyre spring rates, 700 lbs in the front and 500 lbs in the rear?

I definately agree with that....but on the down side they're dead in literally 20 laps. Velllllly soft tyres. We ran em at Dutton Rally last year, took a second off our dunlop formula r times but they were showing canvas after the 20 events

Yes, even the GTS was listed as a GTR on the timesheets. Made it hard to determine who was doing what lap time.

I was happy enough though to do faster times than one of the 968cs cars on semi comp rubber with Targa spec preparation. the owner was parke 2 bays away and was shocked at the acceleration I had on standard computer. Pity about the limiter though. PFC to the rescue in 2 pay days :D

no times yet.

I honestly don't know sorry. But I'm guessing you also don't know about the new wing then either Sydneykid. He says this has made a big difference as well!

I guess in a 4WD you don't really need as much pitch.

Also if you are using the springs to increase the roll stiffness rather than sway bars you will end up with a very stiff setup. Just look at the GTP cars, I am not sure now but previously you weren't allowed to change the sway bars so they were all sprung to the shiznit

It's easy NRB, get the corner speed up and you won't need to use the brakes so much.  We use DBA slotted rotors with Hawke pads in the Blue compound, still able to lock the wheels at the end of a 12 lapper.  Tyres are the limit of our braking not the brakes themselves.

You gotta get out there and get the adrenalin happening, it's good for the soul.

The last track day I ran RB74 fronts and Comp2 rears. Unfortunately I also had crappy "compliance" fluid, DOT4 I think. Since then I've replaced my fluid with Motul DOT5.1 and I've got some Galfer front pads for track days. I found with the crud fluid I could only string together 2 lapsbefore fade set in. I wish R32 brakes were bigger (mine's non VSpec). I'm also running a lot more power since that day!

Already done - see above. Thanks for advice though!

Sydney - the spring rates are in excess of 700lb fr / 500lb rear. How does this tie in with "the whiteline philosophy", ie dont use greater than 250lb rears even on a race car

Hi ben, as Gojira said, GTR's don't need to be as compliant in the rear as GTST's because of the 4wd. We have the same problem with production cars where we can't change the stabiliser bars or the anti dive or anti squat geometry, so we have to run mega spring rates. Plus we can't get enough positive caster under the regs and too much negative camber means it won't stop. For example we have an Integra with 1,700 lbs per inch rear springs. On the Improved Production Civic we run 700 lbs per inch rear springs, because we have changed the stabiliser bars and the suspension geometry plus it runs a lot of caster.

The mega spring rate philosophy is certainly not our preferred option. With similar tyres, the corner speed of the Improved Production car is much higher than the Production car but we have no choice under the regulations. Even the V8Dinosaur runs lower spring rates, despite weighing 30% more, than the Integra.

Hope that clarifies

    • Thanks Duncan! Yeah it's street use for me only. Maybe occasional track day. Any difference in noise when running with the two pumps? I would expect the lift pump to be more quiet than the main pump so hopefully not? And yes, unfortunately quite a big price difference to the simple hanger setup. Though I'm usually willing to trade money for better reliability and future-proofing. Buy once, cry once and all that. I'd be very happy to never have to deal with fuel pump / wiring issues again
    • The old manifold was quite under the GTR strut brace.  The new manifold is quite [unknown] the GTR strut brace. The GTR strut brace was needed to clear the bonnet vents. The Old strut brace will almost certainly clear the new manifold, but not the bonnet vents. The old strut brace will almost certainly clear the new manifold, and the new bonnet without vents. But I am hoping the GTR strut brace clears the new manifold :p
    • On the bright side, at least you knew that it happened and remedied before anything happened. A friend of mine just took his Fiat 124 to a shop for an oil change and they didn't tighten the oil filter housing properly. 4.5 quarts spewed out and even after refilling + tightening the cap the engine has a tick now.
    • So, more pain. The FAST manifold is a little larger than the stocker. This is problematic because there really wasn't much clearance to begin with, so going from 'barely enough' well into 'no' is sad based on the external dimensions of the thing, even though where it bolts to the head is the same. Result is the fuel rails sit a good 25mm higher, and this is a bit of an issue with the wiring that runs behind the motor, and the fuel lines, and everything else. When pushing the manifold on, it required a huge amount of force to crush wiring looms to fit it, sensors like the MAP sensor are about 1mm from the firewall, and the FPR just has to bend ABS lines to be forced into place. After some brainstorming and some sad drinking, the loom for some reason ran from the grommet behind the ABS sensor, then to the driver side head, then back to the passenger side head. So all of this was pulled back and stripped, a few wires cut and rejoined, so that the 'branch' was now on the passenger side's head as below: Before you basically couldn't see anything behind the driver head. This is much improved! The MAP sensor is now pointing up (instead of at the firewall) Brackets have been made up for the rail. The rails are for a LS1, the manifold is designed around a LS2 as it's base. Which of course has slightly different bracketry and water pump clearance, hence the mods people need to do. Should be hopefully mounted tonight. I spent money on a new FPR that is slightly more compact than my Turbosmart FPR1200. The gauge has also been moved to the rail. There's also apparently an ORB to AN Union instead of the adapter, because the ~25mm of the current adapter is going to make the difference. Provided this all goes together and arrives today, it'll be the totally not stressful attempt to start it.
