The law says he can drive it while going to and from anything related to the exmeption. Its not open slather to drive the car anywhere anytime. Being that it was Australia day and all... i'm not sure he'd have had anything work related to go to.

Plenty of people on the forums get exemptions for Nissan turbo cars, why should it be different just because he is famous and drives an M3?

Point out to me one person (from QLD if you can) who has an exemption to drive a performence turbo car of any brand (or non turbo) as a daily drive.

In Queensland, of the 100000or so people who have got their licence under the new power restrictions, the number of expemtions given is under 1000. The vast majority of those would probably be for mechanics, and they'd only be able to drive the restricted vehicles during work hours doing work related activities.

Its not about "oh some rich person has money and bought an expensive car, i wish i could have had one when i was 19".

Fact is when i was 18 I could have affored a restricted car, but because i couldn't drive one due ot the laws i, you know, just sucked it up and went and bought a non restricted car.

Same should probably have applied here. I cannot think of a single reason why he couldn't have got the non turbo/v8 3 series bmw..

umm I'm sure he had an option to buy a car that was not turbo or 8cyl. pretty simple right? people taking the piss on laws (or thinking because they are famous or have money that they can ignore them) are exactly what makes it so much harder for normal people.

More often than not, they are mechanics. My mate works at a car wash and he is going to apply for a work exception because they have to drive around any of the cars that come through.

Most people you see who are just cruising around driving a turbo/v8 are doing it illegally.

Do you know what I hate though about that article about that guy getting done with the M3. One paragraph in the daily telegraph said something about him getting into shit for hooning. I was thinking oh maybe he done a burnout. No, he revved his car at a pedestrian crossing. How the f**k is revving your engine hooning? HOW THE f**k!

There are plenty of cops out and about. On the drive back from my tune there was a big setup at the foot of the F3, luckily going North so I didn't have to worry, well not much anyway. I just want to like owning my car!

I was refering to Duncans post about how he said Tomic had an option of buying a non turbo/v8 car and infering he is pissing on the laws for purchasing a car that he needs a permit to drive. If he is given an exemption/permit to drive a car that is restricted, as long as he abides by the conditions there is nothing wrong with him buying an M3 and driving it (as long as it is used according to the conditions of the permit).

In NSW I know 4 Green P-platers who are not mechanics or related to the car industry who drive V8's and Turbos. One drives a Pre 2000 V8 Statesman, One drives an R35, One drives a Blue Bently GTC and another has access to an R33gtst.

I have no Idea about QLD, but i'm sure it is very similar if not the same as NSW.

It doesn't matter if a member of the general public agrees or not if some people have valid enough reasons to drive restricted cars, as long as they have a permit and they don't break the rules they have every right to drive or buy it.

It is like getting a permit to go hunting, if you follow the restrictions and the permit is valid, then you can shoot as you like according to the permit, exactly the same as the P-plate permit, break the rules then suffer the consequenses, follow the rules then what anyone else says is invalid.

Neither can I, but it doesn't matter what you, Duncan, myself or the queen of England thinks, the fact is the RTA/Queensland equivalent gave him the exemption, so there was a valid enough reason for it according to them, the people that make the rules and give out exemptions after weighing up the need for such a vehicle gave him the exemption which means he is allowed to purchase or drive that car, so I can not undrstand understand the logic behind people here saying that he should have bought the non V8 version???? WHy does he have to if he is legally given an exemption for it?

What if you got the exemption and decided to get a GTS-t and you were actually doing what you thought was within your restrictions but you get police attention and it makes it to the news and people on a forum start saying crap like "you shouldn't be driving that car anyway" or "you should have bought the non turbo version" when really you had every right to as you had a permit to buy and drive it for whatever reason???

All I can say is that I sympathize with anyone who says that it is not fair for him to get an exemption when most of you other young guys cant. I have no problem with people getting an exemption in certain situations ie. mechanic etc. but I cannot think of a single legitimate reason for Tomic to get one.

We got my 4 inch exhaust down to 93db in street form with a very restrictive Euro 4 emissions cat. Still too loud for the test but a good effort I think.

Past the test with 84db with a straight through cat and a 'special' flange. Undetectable and 30sec to remove.

So the only way I can get done is by one of those mobile tester things like was on the ACA "news" story. With me only driving the car once in a blue moon I think my chances are almost nil.
