Hey all .

Ok now so i finally decided to do the upgrade on my 32 and shove a 25 box in . So i got the box all mounted up and my short shifter all bolted in and selected everygear perfect. So i then put all the custom tailshaft and ect on then started it up to find i cant selct gear while cars running? Flywheel was remachined and clutch was only 10000kms old threw a new thrust bearing in and changed over slave . The fork isnt cracked and the slave does move the fork a good distance . Wtf is going on?

Without the engine running, you will always be able to select gears, even without using the clutch.

Simple answer is that the clutch isn't disengaging the engine from the gearbox. I suspect that the RB20 pressure plate isn't as tall as a RB25 plate, or the thrust bearing carrier is too short for the combo you have.

Can you determine how much free play you have at the fork?

You will probably have to remove the gearbox and do some measurements on the clutch assembly and the thrust bearing motion to determine what is (not) happening.

pressure plates should be the same, as aftermarket kits for these always say they will fit both rb20det or rb25det.

one of my mates had the exact same thing happen after we installed a new clutch and short shifter on his r32 about 5 years ago, i could be wrong but i think we just had to make an adjustment at the master cylinder.. or maybe the one behind the clutch pedal.. i cant remember which one exactly.

Adjust the rod at the top of the pedal..

The only time you will have serious issues is with multiplate clutches and getting the correct bearing/carrier size.

I'm going to assume you bled the system properly after changing slaves?

this might be silly, but did you check you had the clutch plate facing the right way?

would be difficult to bolt the pressure plate on if this was the case...

fly wheel bolts too long and touching the clutch plate ?? although u would think the flywheels would be similar in thickness
