Reason for selling: Not really using it - my wife didn't want it as our family car (so I bought her a Caldina), and now that we have a bub, I spend all my time off work either at home or in the family car, so the poor Bimmer just doesn't get used. Also, My Stagea is all but finished, so I'll be using it on the weekends. I figure it's a bit excessive to have such a nice car as a daily hack for the 3km drive to work and back, so I'm going to get into something a lot more cheap and cheerful!

I bought the car in September 2010 (with 105000km) with the bulk of the mods already done: Ipod dock, Genuine BMW update head and tail lights, bodykit consisting of front and rear aprons, side skirts and rear bootlip spoiler (not sure if these are bmw, but they are plastic), M6 18" rims, Eibach front and rear swaybars, shocks and lowered springs, and Supersprint exhaust.

Since then I have added carbon fibre bonnet badge, boot badge and wheel centre badges, high flow inlet, and smoked front indicators.

Do a web search, read up about them: these are considered one of the greatest drivers cars ever, and for good reason: the build quality is fantastic, the performance is excellent, and the sound of that V8 is pure car porn. The car is in excellent condition overall (anyone who knows me knows how I treat my vehicles), and has real presence, as the pics will show. It is also advertised on carsales (search for the rego number), and can be viewed by appointment on the Gold Coast.

We have our 2nd E39 in the family now, and we won't part with it.

I think it's been rated by a car mag as being the best made sedan in God knows how long.

Yes in 2002 Consumer Reports (US) called the E39 the best car they'd ever tested. There was some other mag that called the E39 the best car in the world a few years earlier.

Out of curiosity, how does it sound with the Supersprint? Much louder than stock?

Not really.... Even with the inlet kit it's pretty quiet: Unless you open the taps and rev past 4000rpm, there's not a great deal of noise. Does sound a fair bit meatier at higher revs though: you can definitely tell it's a V8...

This car deserves to be driven and cruised in, not locked up on weekends and evenings: it yearns to be let loose and appreciated!

Think about it: black leather, sunroof, ipod compatible, meaty exhaust note, and real PRESENCE: it's the perfect Grand Tourer: jump in with a change of clothes and a toothbrush, turn up the stereo and hit the road in style! My days of dirty weekends are over for a while now (unless they allow for nappy changes, late night feeds and high chairs), so let my loss be your gain!

I nicknamed her Betty because she's ...well...black. And that just happened to be the first song that randomly played on my ipod when I got her. Like any good mistress, it was great while it lasted, and I'm going to miss her, but my life just doesn't have room for her anymore... *cue dramatic music*
