Was pulled into RBT on Gold Coast and had nothing to drink or any illegal modification on my R33, so police give me an infringement notice for having the battery in the boot!!!

They say it must be in a battery box, but this is the factory location and the car is complianced like this, so this fine seems completely unjust. *EDIT* my battery is a sealed battery too.

I need something to prove that this is factory and not a modification. Contacted Nissan Australia but they didn't want to help with even a simple letter saying this is standard.

Is there a diagram/writing somewhere showing this as factory, or do you know any one of athority that might be able to help e.g. a compliancer that can write a letter.

Thanks

R33 GTS-t's have factory fitted battery in the boot. However, the battery type does not suit Australian road laws (in your case). Places like Battery World or Autobarn sell sealed batteries, and in your situation, this sort of sealed batteries are required. That means that you do not require external vents.

cheer for the quick reply. Yes my battery is a sealed. Are you able to help with any documentation or regulations. Thanks :)

WAIT. I nearly had this put on me too...the general rule is it has to ALSO be in a secure position and held down with a proper enclosure. I just checked mine and it sits under a cage-looking area with 4 spokes securely holding it down and then screws onto the stop of the battery so it is stiff as anything and is also sealed.

I suggest you take it to your Road Authority Office and get them to confirm that it is in compliance and then send a letter to the police to contest this, but as one of the police officers had advised me before, it has to be secured within an enclosure. Hope that makes sense.

thanks guys !!! it helped a lot.

mine is same as above picture and is securely locked and the battery is sealed.

i went to some of the stores like nizzpro, autobarn & batteries store to get a letter to prove that the skyline r33 have the factory fitted battery and is securely fitted on the boot.

i posted it to the officer, and went to transport department, so that when they stop other skylines then they need to consider about this matter.
