About time that old (and IMO crappy) rule got changed. LSX-438 Posted February 9, 2012 Share Posted February 9, 2012 Over the years though, I have seen alot of cars that I have kicked out (and there are lot) that the owners said to me, "I dont want to cage it", but then 12 mths/2 years later I have seen the car at EC or wakefield with a cage in it etc etc. I have never understood that. I think we've answered your query (in this thread). They "get kicked out" (of drag racing).. and guess where they go. Across the road, and run 250km/hr down the main straight, 180km/hr through T1, grinning from ear to ear. Subsequently, they're hooked. 30 track days later they have spent hundreds of hours in the sport, tens of thousands of dollars in mods, and now want a cage to continue on with a sport they have fallen in love with. I guess it's complicated, but IMO this sort of change has to come from the top down, not the bottom up. Eastern creek is awesome, I have only driven it in a Radical ( My brother has a new SR8 he was storing at the creek) but to be able to access that track regularly would be awesome. You guys are spoilt! We have NO drag track to use in Adelaide, & our circuit (Mallala) while fun, just cant compare to the creek with that looooooooong straight. I just wish they had fixed up AIR and allowed circuit racing there - then we would be able to do 300! I think this Drag thread will just go round in circles....in the end ..........haha. Oh well. We all just have to make the best of it & have fun where we can! Road-going motorcycles will also be able to perform to this level. (Full details of the new rules can be found on the websites of all three tracks) - The initiation of a 50 million dollar Public Liability Insurance Cover policy covering the three tracks. Engineered in conjunction with leading insurance companies and brokers, the new policy will provide coverage for more than 300 Drag Racing events across the three facilities to the same standard and coverage currently provided by ANDRA. - As a result of the above policy, the three tracks will step away from the existing sanctioning requirements of ANDRA for minor events – allowing the new rules mentioned above to be successfully implemented. - Major events held by the three tracks will continue to be held under ANDRA sanction, but with the new insurance policy mentioned above. All changes are effective from November 30th and are designed to bring the sport of amateur drag racing into the future. “With practically hundreds of years of management experience - including the witnessing and safe management of millions of runs at our three facilities - at our disposal, our three tracks have decided to take the next step to move the sport we love into the 21st century,” said Bettes. “Every week we have been turning away amateur racers in some of the best engineered road cars and bikes, because the existing rules are completely antiquated and do not reflect or acknowledge the huge steps forward manufacturers have made in engineering, nor the safety standards of our facilities. “For example, a top-of-the-line HSV GTS Commodore, Subaru WRX or turbo six cylinder Falcon with just a few minor tweaks in technology is capable of running well into the mid to low 11 second zone and it doesn’t take too much more to get them into the 10 second zone.
