Sorry I cant make it either Richo.

Got a new Brake Master Cylinder put on today. A bigger, better, larger unit to suit the Brembo's. BM57. (Bigger than 1")

Instead of the BM50 for the Sumitomos (1")

Now I have braking issues - Again :(

Booked in again Wednesday to get it looked at.

Sin

Stocker should work fine with the Brembos. But then so should BM57, what's the issue?

The stocker became spongy when I had the New rotors and Brembo calipers put on. Pedders put the rear calipers on the wrong side therefore the bleed valve was opposite to where it shouldve been and air got stuck. :(. Took it back twice and they didnt work it out. Took it around the corner to ACT brakes and within 1 minute they told me the problem. So they put them on the right sides and up the right way bled, and all good.

Because I put the Bremo's on I bought the BM57 to suit. Today ACT Brakes put it on and I am back to spongy.

When the ehgine isnt on the brake peddel is hard. Turn the engine on and they go instantly spongy. So doesnt appear to be air trapped in system.

So anyway - back to ACT brakes on Wednesday. If they cant resolve within the day I'll get them to put the BM50 on. As it turned out to be very good.

I thought I'd get better stopping with the match of Brembo calipers and the BM57 like the Vspec I and II.

The bigger BM57 will give you slightly shorter pedal travel and a harder pedal so while the stocker will decrease harness and increase travel it shouldn't be excessive or spongy. The movement when you turn the engine on is it 'sponginess' or 'travel' because the booster is getting vacuum?

The booster appears to get vacuum as it should but the sponginess is more than should be.

There should be a point where the pressure increases and then goes fairly hard as the brakes are applied

I dont get to the hard bit and the first half is soft like there is no pressure.

Any ideas ??

The other thing that annoys me is that every brake shop discounts bleeding the ABS without reason - Why is that?

It connects directly to the BMC, it has the capacity to trap air, it's higher than the calipers and higher than anything else in the brake system (except the BMC which is pretty much at the same level), it has bleed valves on top of it !

I'm not a brake specialist BUT i am mechanicaly minded and logical.

Faulty valve or torn diaphragm?

  • 1 month later...

So how many of you keen to go for a drive this comming weekend ??

Thinking of grabbing a big breaky in Cooma (1hr away) then maybe a short stop at Jindy for photo op and then lunch at Charlottes private parts.

Maybe even cold drinks when we get back

Following weekend is Wheels @ old parly house.

I won't do it this weekend, doing Motorkhana on Sunday.

But I was close to driving out that way last weekend (Canberra long weekend) until the R32 engine died while out and about. Anyway that got me wondering if any of the roads up there had been closed from the recent rain? A majority of the fun roads were closed and we found out for good reason.

Ahh man would be keen! But I'm getting my St pats day celebrations on.. come on St pat's day on a Saturday! Its like a lunar eclipse...

But next few weekends ill be available. Ill also be getting new rims which will need a photo shoot.

    • Hard to say what the extra connector is, it looks a bit like a coax type connector, so possibly a separate radio/GPS antenna, or even another camera input?  The V37 series (including the Q50), did go through a model refresh in 2020, since Australia didn't get any Q50s newer than 2019, we didn't get any of the refreshed models, so there could also be other unexpected problems to overcome to swap an older Q50 head unit into a new model V37. There probably aren't too many people around that have made these sorts of changes to a Q50/V37, so you might end up being the first if you do decide to go ahead. ACP is Apple Car Play and AA is Android Auto, they are roughly the same thing for the 2 major phone operating systems (Apple's iOS and Android), it allows you to connect your phone and access a number of your phone applications on your car system.  With Nav apps included, so you could use google maps/Waze or whatever your favourite navigation app is, instead of using the built in navi system.  I think this would be a better solution if it is only Navigation that you are looking as swapping the head unit for. GPS signals are the same around the globe as the GPS satellites continuously circle the globe, but it is the head unit that doesn't allow you to load Australian maps, or at least no-one had made an Australian map that will load up on the JDM head unit. Regarding the TV standards, I assume you are referring to the AV inputs?  I haven't ever tried to use them, Japan used a slightly modified version of the US NTSC system, and Australia uses PAL for composite video, that said, I wouldn't be surprised if a video input could work with either system.  That is mostly irrelevant here though, unless you plan to use those inputs for something?
    • If you've got bucket loads of $. Go single. If not, just upgrade the twins, Garrett -9's or whatever the current equivalent is for a healthy 350awkw and leave it at that. Will probably still cost you 10k to do in this day and age.
    • When you looking to buy injectors?? I could possibly sell you my 1d1700s for decent price. Done little work I just need bigger again 😫
