Hi people. i'm new to the forum as a user but have worked my way around majority of the posts. i have an r34 4 door manual and am looking for more power (like most people). now im a diesel mechanic and am keen to do all the work (bar tuning and custom piping of course). now i've so far bought a gt35r turbo with a split t3 flange (questions on that later). an ebay copy greddy manifold. a plazmaman exhaust manifold to a t3 flange. also gettin all the other neccessities ie. 550cc injectors with a hks rail, 38mm wastgate, sard fpr, tomei pon cams, hks adj cam gears, z32 afm and button clutch, power fc.

Now it might be a big ask and from my research i havnt found many topics about r34. i would imagine they would be fairly similar to the r33 but not sure and dont want to run in guns blazing only to find someone looking back at me with a bazooka!!

1:now my first question is about the turbo. T3 split flange will it fit to the normal T3 flanged manifold??

2: The manifold i found an awesome write up about a greddy manifold and read it many times was wondering if there are any big differences between the normal and the neo?

3. The power fc i would think i could simply plug it in myself and get someone to tune it. Though ive hears something about boost control part to it? can i just control boost with my gizmo ebc and still run the PFC?

also are there any other mods that should be done (besides forging) while the motor is in pieces and things are easy to get to?

any help with these questions would be very helpful.

If you search using the term "neo" you will find a lot more info. You will need to check if the manifolds for R33 suit the neo - stock throttle body will be fine. You will need to be very carefull with forged piston selection as a few people have ended up with sky high compression ratios through wrong pistons for the neo. Make sure you get top feed injectors (you don't need a new rail or fpr) and you only need one adjustable cam gear (inlet has variable cam timing). Double and triple check that you get the right poncams for the neo head. I would forget the Z32afm and get a Link/Vipec ecu (which uses a map sensor) and that would do boost control as well. However if you can find a suitable PFC then that will work with the Z32 or maybe Q45 afm and with your ebc. Think about getting a more grunty intank fuel pump. And if you still have the sidemount you will need a fmic suitable for 350 + kw. 38mm w/g may or may not be big enough - have a trawl through the RB25 turbo upgrade thread.

With all those mods (good idea to do them all at once if you can afford it) you won't be able to drive your car to the tuner - you'll have to tow or trailer it.

1:now my first question is about the turbo. T3 split flange will it fit to the normal T3 flanged manifold??

Yes, same bolt pattern.

3. The power fc i would think i could simply plug it in myself and get someone to tune it. Though ive hears something about boost control part to it? can i just control boost with my gizmo ebc and still run the PFC?

Yes, Keep the Gizmo.

also are there any other mods that should be done (besides forging) while the motor is in pieces and things are easy to get to?

for that size turbo I would be going for a built 3L bottom end and slapping the 2.5 head on.

1: you should never have pulled the motor spart.. they are strong motors and will handle lots of power providing it has the correct support systems and tune

2: a split pulse turbo housing will fit on a non split t3 manifold. but you wont see any of the benifits of the split pulse design.

3: greddy manifold will cause you yo lose midrange torque. stock is best and can flow upwards of 400 rwkw. if you must go forward facing either get a plazmaman or similar. or GTR throttles.

4: use your gizmo ebc and get someone to tune the PFC.

further notes: that wastegate is too small if you fit cams and want to run a 35R. you'll need a 44mm gate minimum. greddy copy manifold is junk and 550's may be a tad on the small size if you want 350+ rwkw

agree to above.

either sell your exhuast manifold or sell your exhaust housing.. if you sell the manifold buy a 6boost that suits t3 twin scroll, if you sell the exhaust housing buy an open frame t3 housing. simple stuff there

again, ditch the greddy copy plenum and the 550cc injectors.. use the stock plenum and get injectors around the 800cc - 1000cc mark. you will want the headroom for E85 later.

wow thanks heaps for the suggestions people keep them coming if you can think of more to add. im looking for 400hp safely. have'nt pulled the motor apart and was told that they are strong internally as long as the tune is good which is what im going for.

I've already got the power fc so thinking i might get the q45 afm to go with it. I'm going to tow car to tuners.

the greddy copy manifold i have'nt purchased yet and if people have run 400hp on the stock ones i might think about keeping mine. If i do should i modify to make it forward facing?????

ive already purchased injectors went for a set of denso 550cc injectors top feed high impendence blah blah blah does this mean i need to get an aftermarket fuel rail or will those injectors fit the manifold with the fuel rail mod i have seen on this forum?

The current mods on the car at the moment are the usual stage one stuff fmic exhaust intake.

yeah mod the stock manifold to be forward facing.. people will tell you that it doesnt work and that there are flow distribution drama;s this is crap if its done correctly.

plenty ppl makng 400 rwhp from stock rb25's reliably mate

ok so now does it have to be forward facing manifold to get 400hp reliably?? or can i just leave it as is?? cos i think it would be easier to put a new manifold rather than modifying the old one???

are those injectors big enough for wot i want? how about fitment??

Ok so I'll keep the stock intake manifold though as I said before I will have a high mount 35r so the crossover pipe will cause problems I think though I have seen people do it before but means I have to put a 110 degree pipe to the intak manifold... Still undecided I guess if i just make it work as is now and see how I go I am buying another run around so I will be able to take my time with this build and hopefully document it for future neo builders

ok just had a good long squiz under the bonnet and ive decided to throw away the stock manifold cos it just looks too messy and the injectors i have purchased are for the "big bore" holes and wont fit. so now my question is the throttle body now is MASSIVE to say the least how can i possibly bolt that up to an aftermarket forward facing manifold. ive see the r33 version but the neo and another butterfly in it and the hole assembly is about 12 inches long what do i do????? do i get aftermarket throttle body?? IF so wot happens to the massive actuator thing hanging off the crossover pipe?

Trust me for the 35r the best manifold is the standard one or the plazmaman if you looking at going above 7000rpm repeatable. It will be the fastest spooling, create the most midrange and give you the least dramas. Leave the STD throttle body on it and just have a 180 degree bend on your ic pipe.

heres my tip champ. if you dont have anything interesting to say stay quiet. I'm trying to learn and when I do i will help others. If your fighting the system what are you doin on this forum????

Here's my tip. Don't start deciding to throw shit away before you understand what it does.

He is right tho stock plenum is best. But by all means go forward facing and do what rob suggested both these guys know there stuff. I suggest you keep all your stock parts incase of defects could save some money there.

yeh the comment was just a bit condescending in my opinion. I am keeping all my stock parts wouldnt have thought that they would defect me for an aftermarket manifold tho (if it passed emissions of course)??? im mainly doing it to clean the engine bay up and the injectors i have are big bore and id have to modify it. so im goin ahead with the forward facing. ive gotten most of the information i need now and prob goin to take it apart within the next few weeks.

cant thank you guys enough for the info was a big help and ill organise photos and stuff and a write up. cheers

HAHA lets go then. No one knows everything about everything I'm a DIESEL MECHANIC not light vehicle i dont play with cars all day and want info so i dont f**k up?? sound legit. as if people dont modify stuff for looks why the f**k do people buy rims for????? light weight my ass!!! i know what traction control does sort of explains itself in the name or did you have trouble understanding it the first time? it doesnt exactly have TRACTION CONTROL written on it and like i said im used to controlling fuel not air ( diesel not petrol ). I still go back to my point. Why critisise me wanting information cos after all i thought thats what this forum was all about. you seem to be one of the idiots from boostcruising do you not have anything better to do then scan forums for people that dont "know" as much as you do and put condescending comments on their topic. seriously take a look at yourself and grow up.

It was meant to be condescending. You're making engine mods based largely on appearance, and you don't even know what the traction control butterfly is/does.

    • I did read your post, a few times actually.    Done. Followed this step. [Negative probe should be on the cars chassis. Positive on the wire.]   Did this partially.. now that im reading this over, i only unplugged the LED lights. [Start as said above by unplugging everything (unplug the lights, and switches.] When you are talking about the switch, you're talking about the knob thing on the right side in the drivers seat right? If so, i need to take that apart?  [Now at the switch, there is a wire from the fuse, to the switch, so out your positive on that terminal. It should read open circuit. If it reads something, especially a stupid low value, the short is somewhere between the fuse and the switch.] At this point are you referring to the connector by the headlights?  [If that's fine, now put the positive probe on the wire that goes to the headlight (at the switch plug). If it reads stupid low, the fault is from the switch, to the headlight.] Did this. I can confirm that the LED lights aren't the issue [Another quick test, is take the whole LED light setup from the left, and plug it into the right side, does it still blow the fuse? If you put the right hand side led light setup on the left hand side wiring, does the left hand side wiring now blow?  If the blowing fuse swaps from right to left doing this, your LED lights are the issue.]
    • Hey was wondering if you ended up installing the R33 GTR speed sensor - I found one too and wanted to confirm it's a direct swap into the R34 6 speed?
    • After 23 years of owning a Skyline, finally had the latch go.  Followed this guide,  works like a dream again. Great Guide 👍
    • Hi all,   I’ve got the biggest lot of problems with my R33 GTS-T   It was a freshly rebuilt 25th anniversary RB25DET (plastic cas, neo cams) probably 6 years ago now   The engine was running so well but I fkd up badly and trusted someone I’d known for 10 years that was well known around Plazmaman for his welding and fab work. I added a lovely photo of some of his previous work. Not sure why my car was worked on by whoever did this shit     I’m normally someone who would never open myself up to something like this, I still can’t believe I did it. Trusting him literally fkd it all up for me. Everything has been a struggle, like it’s almost been 6 years that’s how much I’ve just on and off been trying to work it all out.    All I wanted was a car that danced down low, like full boost from around 3~3500rpm to redline, don’t really care what power it puts down (if it ever does) but I just wanted it to be quick to get on it.    He recommended the turbo to get, I picked Hypergear but he told me to get the front 4” with a T4 and 0.68 rear housing.    I was expecting all these beautiful welds, tidy fab work and paid for it to be ready to go to a tuner when I got it back.    I got a car back that was an absolute mess, I actually couldn’t believe it was my car anymore. I don’t think you could even call what he did welds, they’re disgusting.    So I stripped everything he touched off it and with every bolt I loosened it just got worse and worse.    I covered it and literally built and finished another car in the meantime but now it’s getting to the point where I really want my Skyline back.   Its a struggle because I paid him to do all this shit because I didn’t know how to and now I’ve had to try and figure it all out omg    Please excuse the bird shit horrible welds, I’ve got my show pony car and am so beyond dealing with this car I don’t even really care at this point.    If someone told me about what he did to my car I wouldn’t have believed them but it happened to me. It was unbelievable. He went missing, my car went missing, it came back missing parts, the straight af chassis rails bore the scars of being dragged up a trailer backwards, even the sandwich plate was bent. Everything was leaking and open to whatever fell into it, rounded off/ missing bolts, power steering oil and coolant everywhere, no gaskets, parts stolen off it, even managed to damage the sump pan.   Promised me he’d finish the car, knew what it meant to me, I paid him thousands and thousands just for him to trash it. He told me he was fully licensed and insured, come to find out he’d cancelled his ABN, so obviously no insurance. I had laid up insurance on the car and would’ve been covered but I was scared they would’ve written it off or because the business was no longer trading I’d still be liable.    He was supposed to:  New fully custom mild steam pipe exhaust manifold with turbo location moved from factory position to high forward mount. (I don’t know if it is a mild steam pipe, I’ve got a funny feeling the waste gate isn’t in a very good position and I don’t think the outlets off each cylinder are equal) 4” custom stainless steel dump with external gate (he re-plumbed it) Cut and shut OEM intake manifold with throttle reposition (I ended up doing the throttle reposition) Box in pod filter (left out) New 100cel catalytic converter (pretty sure it’s there but unsure if it’s 100cel) Front mount intercooler piping fabricated to suit (all smashed up and rusty holes where he was supposed to make it look standard where fmic piping passes through. I don’t even think my front bar is going to fit 🙄) Custom 5” intake pipe from pod to turbo (didn’t come with it so had to do something to make it work with the Z32 afm)   Engine: Full cylinder head service & machining  Brand new valves Precision upgraded spring kit Engine block honed New bearings  New piston rings  New ARP conrod bolt kit New ARP head studs Cometic head gasket VRS kit   ATR43SS2 ball bearing turbo 0.68 rear housing  Turbosmart 45mm external wastegate (got delivered to the fab bloke, I’ve got no idea what spring is in it, I’m assuming the one that came pre installed) Walbro 260 fuel pump  Nismo 740cc injectors (tested to 880) Spitfire coil packs GCG FMIC RB25DET manual 5 speed 4:11 rear diff   I’ve got an Apexi Power FC in it atm, I was hoping to just get it to operating temp to make sure everything was okay before towing to a tuner but it’s over-fuelling too much. I don’t think that’s going to happen so i think I’m going to get either a Link G4 or Haltech for it. What do you guys recommend? I can’t work out the power FC so just gonna give up on that one     It’s got an exhaust leak coming from somewhere I can’t see 🙄    The fuel pressure was steady but now it like drops from 40 to 20psi randomly (noticed this yesterday)    I’ll attach pics of the shit he put on my car and the engine bay now as it sits    I really just need some help, I need a tuner in Sydney I can trust, I’d like to be with the car while it’s being tuned if possible, I know it looks terrible but unfortunately I’ve just got to put up with it for now and fix the cosmetic stuff later   Do you guys think the manifolds are going to be okay? Or do I throw the exhaust manifold and try again?   I don’t even think these combinations are going to work tbh   I know everything I fitted was rated to be able to take at least 400kW but most rated higher    If you’ve gotten this far I really really appreciate it 🙏 I don’t mind if you trash me or the car, I made a rookie error and f**k I’ve paid for it. As you’ll see 🙄
