Bikes do need strength to be ridden but not as much as you think. Like Birds said Casey is 58Kgs and exactly the same height as me. I discussed fitness with Alex Craville (MotoGP World Champ). He did and does a lot of running as well as weights.

Previously I have said:

I will definitely look at adding weights and increasing everything once I'm sure I'm improving fatigue wise. My tests showed that my muscles were breaking down faster than they were building (partly due to low testosterone), hence hitting the weights too soon will just be counter productive.

If I weight train too often or too hard with CFS I pass out.

That girl started off 15Kgs lighter than me and ended up 5Kgs heavier than my target. She also seemed to be bordering on diet obsession at the beginning where as my diet is relatively healthy. I initially had cravings which have subsided in the past two weeks.

I feel great when I run, she felt shit. She wants to lift weights, I want to ride bikes. Bike riders run.

GTST If you still think I should be lifting weights right now then don't even bother replying. Being unconscious is not my aim.

Birds, shut up and lift

Was gonna say the same about the motogp riders though, they all look like malnourished 10 year olds and can't even pick the bike up off the ground on their own

If you think lifting is the solution to my tl;dr habit, you're deadlift wrong.

Indeed, most of them are tiny. Dany Pedrosa is 158 cm and 47Kgs!!! All about stamina and knowing the pressure points of your bike :) braaap!

Rossi, pretty lean:

On a serious note though, one reason why it's good for a novice to do weights whilst they're trying to lose fat is that if they have no muscle they will have no shape once they've lost the fat and just look flat, kinda like the photo above. Muscle has shape, fat doesn't. Not saying you need to hit beefcake level 9000, just a good routine of medicore weights hitting a lot of different angles will go a long way to having a nice shape when you lean down. Running is great for the heart and endurance factor, if you love it keep doing it.

^^This is basically what JEPPE is doing with the resistance training. After she has dropped the kg she will be left with some nice shape and a body hopefully ready to hit the weights for more core strength.

On a side note, I think that skinny or flat people who bulk up almost always end up looking better than those who build muscle whilst fat and cut down later. I've seen many a before and after pic and this is just my opinion. You have rare circumstances where a fat person has been able to bulk up and cut down a ridiculous amount, but on the whole there is some fat that is damn hard to get rid of and this is made even harder when you're trying to feed a large body of muscles at the same time. Range of motion and technique is generally better without the fat too.

beefcake level 9000

Yep, definitely agree that even a small amount of muscle looks far better.

It's awesome that you can work certain areas to build them up. Someone with even a small amount of fat doesn't get to choose where it goes, I know plenty of thin chicks with unflattering body shapes.

It's been a while!

In a nut shell:

Was going well with exercise routine and 'kicking goals' although it was gradually tiring me out. Started job which meant I had to cease exercise as fatigue was massive, cannot do both, only one or the other. Fortunately at my work I walk 15-25km a day about 3-4 days a week so I am still getting a bit off exercise.

A few weeks ago my horse fell on me and almost crushed my pelvis. Fortunately it only came to 'almost' and also did not trample me but I was out of action for two weeks. Have since been back at work for a couple of weeks.

Due to the fact I have been unable to exercise I decided to move my focus to my diet. I tried Light and Easy for a week which I must say was very effective mentally although a little costly so I have taken its structure and developed my own at a lower cost. I've been logging it since January and it has been quite consistent and feels as if I'm not changing anything which is a bonus. I'm just concentrating on ordering entrées instead of mains, not snacking so much, filling my day with activities instead of eating because I'm bored, and trying like crazy not to finish the plate if I'm not hungry. Hard habit to break!

Here's the chart from Jan 12th :

4 more Kg's to lose then I will decide where I want to be and put some back on if I need.

Also in other news. Looks as though CFS may not be the only thing causing my issues. Could be something hormonal which may have been mentioned before but have only been able to rule out CFS for everything since I have now been on supplements for a while and haven't fully improved.

Will get more blood tests to check fatigue levels (iron etc) and have an appointment with an exercise specialist in a couple of weeks. Will report back if anything interesting is found!

Oh look who comes back to the party. Where ya been?! :P

That's a really impressive effort I must say, congratulations so far! Keep up the good work!

Bit of a personal question and I certainly don't expect you to answer it, but since you've mentioned it might be hormonal - are you on any contraceptive currently, particularly Implanon? I'm sure you've already taken this into consideration already though...neither you nor Adam strike me as remotely uneducated :)

Thanks man, it's good to see a difference when you look in the mirror. Will probably post some more pics soon as am halfway.

Only on the pill which I actually started taking when I wasn't seeing anyone for the sake of levelling my moods and improving my skin. It seemed to work a little on the moods, but still not enough.

Fair call. Was curious because while I know correlation does not equal cause, my (ex) GF went from 58kg to 64kg very quickly when she got the Implanon thingywatsit. Diet didn't change much - if anything got healthier coz she had to eat what I provided lol, and she was doing more exercise given free access to gym at her work. She's back down to 60kg now that she's got it removed, though since having f**ked the relationship with me and going her own way, her eating habits have gone to shit rofl.

Interesting Troy! I may check with my GP when they first prescribed it to me because I think it was around that time... Unless I'm judging a year different which happens. Thanks!

GTST, I pick and pack books in a warehouse. Pay's awesome and is casual so I can take off time to ride whenever I want :)

  • 1 month later...

Quick update, just got back from a month overseas and have dropped 2Kgs :D back to my normal 62, now anything more is a bonus. Was pretty chuffed when I stepped on the scales. Am keen to see what 58 feels like, if I don't make an effort it might take 6-9 months, if I do maybe 3 months... Appetite fluctuates so will see.

Still not exercising, currently checking blood sugar levels to see if I have diabetes. This build is going to take foreveeerrrrrrrr.

  • 2 weeks later...

Scrap that, was 61Kgs the next day and have stayed at 61 +/- .5 Kg since. Lighter than I've ever been in my full grown life. Only 3 more Kgs to go although from this small variation on weight day to day it seems as though I may have plateaued. Replaced last nights dinner with a 95gm tin of tuna. I hate tuna but it seems like the best option and kept me full for the night. Now I just need to avoid going out for dinner. Ever. Will see after a week if it helps!

Will take some more photos this week and post to compare. :)

    • If doing that ^, I'd take the idle up valve out and plug the hole in the pump.
    • You can try capping the power steering idle up valve at both ends if it's old. The valve and the intake manifold. That is something that is known to fail in Toyotas with age and it will suck power steering fluid into the intake and burn it in the engine which can cause issues. Then bleed it again with engine off first. Do like 30+ lock to lock turns with the front wheels off the ground.
    • Hi Brent, I am wondering if you ever worked this out? I have upgraded this unit to a newer one and everything works bar the reverse camera, so i really want to know what plugs are what so I can patch the camera through. many thanks in advance Mike
    • Once you have to get up in the morning and be useful, you suddenly value sleep it turns out :p
    • Update:   smoke test all pipes no issues cleaned reservoir   fluid put in ( dexron 3 atf)   steering turn side to side and could hearing  gurgling from steering rack which I assumed was air lock, opened one of the steering rack connections and could see loads of air getting pushed out( not sure if you meant to do that / whether it will re introduce air into system)   anyways, loads of side to side sound was gone. Turned car on, pump was slightly ( barely) wining so turned side to side few more turns and fluid level when car on was almost none in resorvoir which I guess is normal if car is one. Turned car of and fluid was gushing out. Almost 200-300cc was pushed out. Repeated engine off side to side followed  by engine on and same result       going mad now. It seems system is either sucking air in whilst on or there is tons of air which I am not giving it enough time to bleed. Thoughts?   would it work like brake caliper if I open steering rack copper pipes and let gravity pull all air out?   or maybe have a restriction somewhere? What is the red circled item, could that be blocked? It i
