Hello, congrats.

With my R34's - first mods i'd normally do are coil packs, air filter, exhaust and front mount. But everyones different and it obviously comes down to $ and preference.

In Melbourne, although I've never used them - I have heard 'Chasers' is good.

Full service, oils (engine,gearbox,diff), fluids (coolant, brakes,powersteering, clutch), , air filter (not a pod please) correct plugs, wheel alignment, then get it run up on a dyno to see if the fuel and shizzles is OK.

Work out what you want the car for, then work out your budget, then talk again to tuner and ask questions, be carefull, alot of dodge guys out there just want your money in their pocket.

Read all the threads in here, dont forget brakes and handling, this should be one of the first upgrades, a well set up car will be better than a car with more power but no brake or susspension upgrades.

Dont buy cheap tyres .

Only replace things that need replacing, dont buy things that will need to be upgraded again later if the power bug bites..

Which coil packs do u recommend ?

Is your spark failing, why do you need new coil packs, are you running over 25 psi.

If there not failing dont replace them for the sake of it !!!

congrats mate! ive really got a soft spot for a good looking 34 4 door.

as said before, have a full service done, make sure the car is in perfect running order BEFORE you go modding it. otherwise its a massive backwards step. there are probably PLENTY of reputable mechanics in your area, have a look in the victoria section of the forum. to perform a full service, you dont necessarily need to take it to a performance garage for a full service, they can sometimes be very over priced.

Yeh well I pick it up next friday or my birthday, gonna do all the oils, spark plugs and filters my self, then take it in for a full check over, then do suspension, exhaust and fmic.... Then slowly take it from there

Your right, I should have been clearer. Check them first.

Personally, when I buy a car - if necessary I just do them the first time I do the plugs as we are talking about packs which are potentially 14 years old.

But again - it comes down to preference and condition, the packs in there may actually be fine anyway, or may have already been changed.

1) Do a service.

2) Wheels (Good ones with sticky rubber)

3) Set of coilovers and dump it to the weeds (A decent set; TEIN, Cusco, Bilstein etc.)

4) 3" exhaust from the turbo back (Stainless)

I totally disagree depending on circumstances. If the suspension hasnt been thrashed,shocks are still good and you want a comfortable ride instead of a bumpy go-kart then there is no problem with doing the usual mods and running 12 psi on stock suspension.

But yeah as said, Make sure you change every filter and fluid first and if you want to run a pod, make sure you buy a heat shield for it. Also if you want a buttload of induction noise from your pod buy a HKS Super Power Flow ;) lol.

I totally disagree depending on circumstances. If the suspension hasnt been thrashed,shocks are still good and you want a comfortable ride instead of a bumpy go-kart then there is no problem with doing the usual mods and running 12 psi on stock suspension.

Considering the facts though the car was made between what? 1998 and 2001? This means that if it has stocko suspension still it is 11 - 14 years old. O.E shocks last (as a general rule of thumb) about 100,000kms so a car that has only done 10k a year on average is still going to have a 'decent' amount of kms on it.

Time to upgrade that suspension I reckon!

When I had an R34 GT-T a couple of years ago it had done ~130,000kms and the shocks were still 'acceptable', after dropped in some HKS coilovers though the car transformed itself!

Obviously all cars are different but due to the age of the vehicle and the fact that the suspension is still factory nine times out of ten I would look at replacing.

I helped a mate purchase a 1998 R34 GT-T Coupe with 148k on the clock and the suspension was great and i drove it on 14Psi. He only got Teins to lower it. Also my first 4 door 33 was a 93 model with 128Ks on it and even then the suspension was good enough to take 14psi. All im saying is "if" the suspension is still good, then in my opinion (permitting OP would rather a more comfortable ride) its ok to do the usual power mods as is.

No idea as to what else you should do other than a service, just got myself the same thing too.

I guess the vic thread, can help you alot, there's a post listing all the shops and there's some feedback on them too. Have learnt abit by slowly browsing through. Enjoy your ride when you get it :)

    • Exhaust end of this month, and then tune after that whenever there is availability. Still tossing up between a pure 98 tune or a flex 98/e85 combo.  The (lack of) milage in e85 isnt great. Start to get anxiety if i go for a long drive and there arent any united servo's nearby
    • I mean I can be OCD'y but this is really over the top. At that point why not just run a full wideband fuel controller? Especially if you run 3 widebands. The system works pretty well, which is trimming low load stuff to be within a few percent of the base map. Pre-engine _change_ the base map was only 1-2% off, depending on ambient temp, elevation, etc. Under load the LS is really very straightforward to tune, enough that a wideband closed loop would be overkill. If I really cared (and I hope I don't) I can always just go back to the MAF system the car actually came with. Which does all those nice calculations for me (temp, altitude, etc), now that you can buy 102mm MAF's that do not cause restrictions.

    • I'd be installing 2x widebands and using the NB simulation outputs to the ECU.
    • Nah, it's different across different engines and as the years went on. R32 era RB20, and hence also RB26, the TPS SWITCH is the idle command. The variable resistor is only for the TCU, as you say. On R33 era RB25 and onwards (but probably not RB26, as they still used the same basic ECU from the R32 era), the idle command is a voltage output of close to 0.45V from the variable resistor.
