I know this is going to sound really silly so apologies in advance ...

will stereo gear (headunit, amp, speakers, sub) work fine if you buy them from overseas? or is there some silly power or frequency thing I should be worried about?

again ... I have NFI I admit. That's why I ask

The only problem ull have is if the headunit was brought in japan etc...the fm frequency isnt the same here but u can still get around it with a fm frequency expander...then ull be able to pick up the aus fm stations.....am will work ok...so ull be able to get everything workin fine

yeah where abouts are you buying everything from? but everything should work fine its only when you get a japanese cassette deck when you might have issues i know a few people who have got cd player and cassette deck cd's and everything were fine but couldn't use tapes but don't really need them anymore

dunno havent really sat down and calculated all that accuratly...

but some headunits that go for say $1500 Aus can be bought from the USA for $380-$410 when I look around on online shops. Surely taxes and shipping cant add up to a thousand bucks can they???? *dont think so* :(

dark coupe ,

as far as warranty goes make sure you let the shop u r buying the gear from you are going back to aus with the gear and request an international warranty with the gear. i bought a kenwood cd player from the us had an international warrannty and when i had troules with it i was covered.

I was in hawaii on a holiday a few years back saw some gear and decided to buy it..

If you are in sydney have a look at these guys http://www.fhrxstudios.com/ they seem to support the forum members and hell there prices look good.

Sometimes you have to take into account that you may be getting something cheap overseas but you really get no after sales service at all.

I mean if you purchase locally and deal with someone that looks after you that could far outway the savings you might make overseas.

I understand that modifying cars can become very expensive as i have done a few in my time and am currently working on a 32 gtr but i have found that a little bit of loyalty as far as purchasing equipment mechanical and or audio can save you a lot of money later on in the picture with some of these guys really looking after you on price etc or doing that extra little bit to help you out.

Hey mate,

Was overseas in Singapore & Hong Kong early this year, and the stuff there such as screens/decks/amps are WAAAAYYY cheaper than Aus. For example, top of the range pioneer screen with dvd 6.5", Aus $1800 without bargaining. Usually these guys in asia you can bargain with.

The stereo's bought from Jap, all you need to do is buy the freqency modulator, which is around $30 or $40 aus.

Cheers
