People that complain about the quality of the V8 Supercars racing need to actually watch a GT500/GT300 race. They are boring as bat shit with cars very rarely actually racing. As a motorsport fan still great to watch due to the variety of cars, but its hardly good , close racing.

Agreed.

V8's provide some great racing. I still find a lot of the sprints a bit boring, but I tune in to the Enduro end of the season and Bathurst always makes for great watching. Much the same as Troy I don't really have anyone that I get behind, which is probably what stops me watching the whole season and getting excited about it, but in terms of world touring cars they're definitely up there for excitement. Much more interesting than DTM coverage.

Until they bring the GT1 world championship to town I'll keep watching! Now that series provides some great racing in combination with gorgeous cars which are different enough to keep you interested.

Yes and No. The great thing about GT1's other than the epic uberness of the cars is that the cars are so different. You have a big mix of V8's, V10's and V12's as well as front and mid engined cars.

The upshot is that different cars are suited to different circuits so you don't tend to find one car dominate the whole season (especially now the MC12's are gone!)

BUT - it also means that the good cars for one circuit tend to be a whole lot better than the bad cars for that circuit. So you don't end up with the whole field being around max 1s/lap different in speed which is what the Supertaxi's often can provide. Which means there often isn't a whole lot of battles going on.

Agreed also, I generally watch it if I'm home and it's on and I usually make an effort to watch Bathurst but I'm no die hard fan that knows when ever race is on, though I do have Team Vodafone stubby holder after meeting Lowndes at Winton and getting a giggly school girl pic.

Despite it being essentially a one make series in terms of the tech, it's still good racing and I love how different it is from the other main form of racing most of us watch, F1, in that the cars can trade paint almost all day long and still run.

I also love watching BTCC but don't get to catch too much of it. Those guys are crazy as and it's very entertaining racing. I honestly don't think it would make any difference if the cars were all the same because they all just drive balls out 99% of the time.

While I'd personally love to see each marque racing variants of its own cars, in the end it's still racing and I'll take what coverage I can get - Shame we don't see more Targa coverage too as we seem to get every round of the WRC (which I also watch when it's on).

Why is it boring? It is generally good racing. My only gripe is that I dont really like any of the current crop of drivers. Lowndes is popular with most people, but I simply don't like many of the current crop of drivers. So its hard for me to get behind any particular team/driver.

Racing is racing is racing...I will watch just about anything race so I am easily pleased :)

Well a few things will change for 2013 anyway. All teams will be getting new cars - this time with IRS & a transaxle even. So go buy a cheap Hollinger gearbox for your GTR.

The point is like Roy said it is good racing and despite the noise the bogans make alot of people just accept the formula for that. Much better than the olden days when you have maybe 20 cars make up a Group A touring car race - only 10 of which were any good.

I tend to support any of the drivers who had a famous motorsport type father. So Moffat, Johnson, Lowndes (yes he did), Davidson (well, one of them anyway), not so much Mr Luff and so on. Which gives me an idea - maybe the way to get on in that business is to have a famous old man?

I also love watching BTCC but don't get to catch too much of it.

Be interesting if you would say the same thing if you watched the whole race flag to flag? It is good racing and the stewards allow them to play up a little. Being fwd (well most) you can get into the sides of one another without always spinning the other guy around. Also they have no power so slip stream and punting is rife.

BUT, the coverage is always great because they edit the footage and the coverage is never live. When you are able to put a reel of coverage together then it is always easier to make what was a 35 min race look like an action packed 15min race :)

And Jr Moffat, DJ etc can all get stuffed. They dont have the talent to have their seats!!!! People, including myself don't like Rick Kelly, but he gained hugely from sharing the other seat with Murphy and he got his head round the cars and is quick.

It is motorsport so unless your Dad is a an exCAMS official, Ex driver, circuit owner or just vastly wealthy then you don't get the chance to throw your hat in the ring.

That's good enough for me though, in much the same way that I like Nascar when I'm only watching the 45 sec highlight reel from the news that shows the smashes :D

How was that walk home last night by the way ;)

Havent you been reading Marlin. I have a new turbo and suspension setup. When I do mods it normally means the car is slower than last time out :( (err yeh 34s...but the above still applies so would be happy if its at least as quick as it used to be)

Spec engine with spec chassis.

They really will be falcodores from next year.

Stick them on an oval!

I'd be interested to see engine regs. Could nissan (or ford for that matter) run an OHC V8 and gain an advantage or are they going to be penalised for moving away from the push rod donks?

    • They see me rollin' they hatin'....... Took me most of the day to make the necessary mods to the mounts to make them fit the car.  Fortunately I was able to just use the mounts that came with the rotisserie. The rear ones are really secure, the front I feel i might reinforce a bit more as it doesn't seem like enough attachment to the vehicle. I'm sure it's fine but better to be safe than (extremely...) sorry.  I drilled and tapped thread into additional M12 holes to each car mount where it attaches to the rotisserie as an extra fail-safe. Without them the side to side movement is just restricted by the allen head pinch bolts, nothing actually goes though the beam. Does now! I still need to adjust the rotisserie to get the car centred in terms of centre of gravity. If it's too high or too low relative to the rotational centre line of the car, it will be like a turtle and roll onto its back or as it currently sits, I dont think I'd be able to rotate it as it sits as it needs to lift the whole car up as it rotates. Ain't happening... I'm going to be nervous as hell the first time I go to spin it on its side...
    • Oh yes done this when the window started flopping around.  Turns out the guides that run along the rail chanel had crumbed way. Took off the door card and pulled out the window mech, then the window, which you have to pull out through the top. As said unbolt the guide rail and don't spend 30 minutes getting frustrated trying to find a way to slide it out upwards cause that don't frigging work. Drop it down and out through the door hole. All I did to repair it was slice some 10mm clear plastic tube, vertically, then screw it to the guide rail both sides. This tubing rolls inward on both sides and leaves a gap wide enough to hold the window. To finish all I did was lube the plastic tube with olive oil and Bob's your uncle . . . well if he has the operation he can be your Aunt ! !  10 bucks in plastic tube and another 5 minute job done again . . . . YEH BULLSH#T ! My love for Skylines knows no bounds !
    • So was there a solution to this problem? I’m having this issue now.
    • not expensive, just irreplaceable if you don't go sub 60 at wakie in that thing people will start talking
    • I haven't replaced that, but I have had the doors apart on the r32 a couple of times The door skin will be held on by a combination of clips and bolts, just take it slowly and make sure all the sneaky hidden bolts are out Once the skin is off you should be able to pop that piece off pretty easily, looks like there are only 2 bolts holding it on
