Heres a 15 second MS Paint special for you to look at Shan.

Kinda like the Nissan Symbol but instead of the silver circle I have used two red circles (tail lights) - Instead of Nissan I have put Skyline.

Extremely crap but you might have time to turn it into something??

Sorry Shan, i thought that that we were just discussing why that logo would best represent SAU Vic, and that a poll would be done (as discussed earlier in the meeting).

For the reasons stated by funky i too prefer to use the GTR style logo, but will be more than happy to "go with the flow".

If you guys don't mind, I'm going to stick my unwanted mug in here for a few minutes :)

Firstly, I think the above it the best so far. Well done to all involved in making parts of that logo, I think it rocks :D

One thing that you have to consider, is that "Skyline" is a trademarked word belonging to Nissan Australia. We (SAU NSW) have had to ask permission from Nissan Australia anytime we wanted to put the word "Skyline" on anything (e.g. Our banner).... You can't just add it to your logo willy nilly and print it up on all sorts of shirts and banners and business cards without seeking prior permission from Nissan Australia.

I personally thought that since they granted SAU NSW use of the word "Skylines" in our club name, we would have some sort of limited creative licence with the word to print banners and business cards and shirts, but Dino Brown (our new President who has been liasing with Nissan Australia) assures me otherwise...

So for now, I think it would be wisest to stick with designs that say "SAU" and not "Skylines"...

At the AGM that SAU NSW held a few weeks ago I suggested that we (or someone ) come up with a UNIFORM SAU logo and shirt design that can be reproduced at any time for future members. The idea behind this was so we don't have 50 different "SAU" shirts, but ONE design that current members can buy and FUTURE members can buy so everyone is wearing the same thing.

I was going to further suggest a "Skylines Australia" shirt, as opposed to an SAU NSW shirt, so we could have national uniformity, but I don't know how you guys feel about that.

I really liked the design of the RB26 you guys had for MAS, and was going to try and do something with that for the shirt....

Thoughts?

well we have thought of uniformity in some of the designs, from the onset one of the requirements was that the logo work just as well without VICTORIA as it did with it.

As for the shirts that we had for MAS, you'll notice that we didn't include VIC in it, for the sake of other states wanting to use the design etc, and we'd be more than happy to order extra ones for you guys along with our second run (which will be revised with new generic logos etc.)

Also I'll be ordering caps and beenies as soon as this logo mumbo jumbo is sorted (around 300 one size fits all in 3 different colours, black white and blue) which I'm depending on the other states taking up as well to cover the numbers required for a minimum run. A previous thread I put up gave me a fair indication that 300 might not be enough.

So yeah I'm all for the uniform logo. I reckon the second logo in the image I posted would be great for general SAU representation, and where banners etc have to be made up per state the first one would be ideal.

By the same token, while it may not be cost effective having a state by state vcariation of the same logo (ie substituting other state names in where it says Victoria) will look cool too, like different subdivisions of the same club. Creates a friendly rivalry, and in case someone is spotted in another state it'll lead to wanton roadrage between state members.

not all of us own RB26's tho... i dunno I personally don't like excluding groups... like the R31ers, most of the time most of our marketing n stuff is done it seems like our club is a R32- R34 only affair.

also the RB26 and GOJIRA don't exactly symbolise anything other than a GT-R, we put it on the back of the tshirt coz it looked so damn cool :P where's B1?

re: RB26 silhouette

I understand where you're coming from, but I disagree... Just because you may not own a GTR with RB26, doesn't mean that you can't have a t-shirt with it on the back.

The RB26 is the flagship engine of the Skyline range, and it should be respected as such... You can't always appease everyone. Logo's aren't meant to represent every single option and make sure no toes are stepped on. What are you going to do? Represent every single engine option on all Skylines? As for feeling bad about not including the R31, where do you draw the line? What about the S54B? The C10? The C110? The C211? The DR30? They're all Skylines too, and have every right to appear on that beautiful banner you made of the Tommy Kaira cars!

Do you see what I'm getting at? Just because you use the GTR or RB26, it's not shunning all the other models, it's just a representative of the group! And what better representative than the flagship? It seems like an almost obvious choice to me? dunno.gif

Besides, I only suggested the RB26 silhouette for the Official SAU (australia-wide) t-shirt design, not for the logo :)

well I don't think anyone in VIC wants to remove the RB26 from the back of our tshirts :P GOJIRA is good. I was stating that its not the most appropriate thing to use for as a logo as its not generic, and also at MAS i got irritated by having to explain what the thing was (an RB26) and what the japanese word said :)

as for the image... look for the EPS, look on the Tshirt thread there was a link I think, else contact B1 for a copy of his work (it was his idea). James and I also have copies of it but I dunno where I put it :(

I reckon it'd look nuts on the back of a t-shirt, but this thread is about the logo not the shirt... ;)

    • Convert to dual filament bulb   FWIW, it will look odd - I dare say a bit dumb as it looks like your flasher relay has shit the bed.
    • If the RB20 box in the car is a push clutch, then yes, you will need to deal with the pull clutch on the turbo box. You either buy a pull clutch and don't use the old one, or you do the things needed to convert the turbo box's clutch arrangement over to push. Which is a bit of a f**karound. "Making" a custom tailshaft is the easy part. But you will need to source the front clip yoke - the bit that goes into the output of the gearbox. These are not as easy to find. They are out there, but they don't grow on trees the way that they used to.
    • Indicator bulbs are way too bright to use as a "corner marker" (we call them parking lights too). Sure. Go ahead and do it. But realise that you wil need to come up with all your own wiring to do it, as no-one will have a standard howto worked out for Skylines. It's just a matter of abandoning everything that Nissan have done and starting from scratch. You'd probably be better off retrofitting tailght/brakelight globe bases into the front indicator housings and using the taillight circuit for your corner marker and the brake light as the indicator. You'd need to work out how to kill the marker circuit while the indicator is flashing, otherwise it won't flash on-off, just bright-less bright.
    • Hi. A little bit of an update. It maybe(hope not) looks like i would need a new tranny(it would be "maybe" a cheaper or better option anyway) So i need some info. I know i need a different propshaft(i can make custom one) LSD is not a problem cuz the engine will be still(for now) N/A RB20. So if i buy RB25DET NEO tranny...is there something else i need? I read something about push/pull type but i do not know if i need to "change" something or i can just plug n play onto my engine a go? Thanks for the advice
    • Good morning all, Bit of a random question but figured I’d finally throw it out after wondering for a long while. Before I start, I'm hoping to do this purely out of personal preference. I think it would look better at night, and don't mind at all spending a few hours and dollars to get it done. I've copied this from a non-Skyline specific forum, so I apologize for the explanation of our headlight switch setup that we all know. Here we go: Zero lights (switch off) Parking lights (switch position 1) being a rectangular marker on the outside of the housing, my low beam being the projector in the centre (position 2), and a high beam triggered by my turn signal stalk. Most North American cars I’ve owned of this era have power to the amber corner (turning indicator) light as part of the first switch (parking lights). I’d love to have these amber corners receive power when the headlights and parking lights are on (headlight switch), yet still blink when using the turn signal which is of course a separate switch. Hopefully I’ve explained my question correctly. Is anyone aware of a way in which I might be able to achieve this? Thanks in advance
