MidnightGTR
Heyas. How much work is involved in fitting a pair of HKS 2540's to a stock 33 GTR engine? I thought it would just be getting underneath the car and start pulling off the exhaust and the rear turbo till you can get to them. One guy I took it too said he would have to remove a whole heap of shit, maybe even one of the engine mounts to tip the engine to one side to get to them. He does know his stuff and I trust him, just he has never done any work on a GTR before, also whats the max I should be paying to get them fitted, He quoted around $400, does this sound fair? Morgs
$400 dosent sound *too* bad, If you're looking at $65ph hour odd, thats around 6 hours work he reckons. Open up the engine bay and take a look, its not the most user friendly thing to work on Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/39124-fitting-lowmount-turbs-to-a-gtr/#findComment-794220 Share on other sites
GTR032
Hi, I have a 32 GTR and I took the turbo's off my car by myself at home. I'm definitely not a mechanic at all, but I did it. Took 2 nights to do it, about 4 or so hrs each night. I just unbolted whatever i thought needed unbolting Front pipes where first to come off along with all intake and associated intercooler piping. No idea what was the 'right' order to do things or not, i then unbolted the the coolant/oil lines from the front turbo, unbolted the turbo off the exh manifold, undid the 6 bolts of the exh manifold to block and managed to get enough leverage to pull turbo out with manifold still just attached on studs to block. After turbo and exh. manifold came out separately you can start doing it all again with rear turbo. This ones a little harder, less room etc. I left the manifold attached to the turbo and a little painfully I pulled out all together. undoing the necessary oil and coolant lines were damn annoying (hard to un do!). I had a quote to pull turbo's off, then put back on with all new HKS gaskets for around $850. So far its cost me nothing apart from the turbo rebuild/hi flow. Once again, im not a mechanic, never been one Only had a basic socket set with a few little extras connection pieces. NRB
Jono, I watched as mine were taken off and replaced. The process was exactly as you said - all intake removed. MidnightGTR, they won't be taken off from below, and you won't need to "tip" your engine. Why not speak to the guys at Sub Zero? They're in Brisvegas aren't they? MidnightGTR
Ah ok thanks, least now I know how its done. Because subzero would charge me a fortune and this guy has done the majority of the work on my other cars. I'm thinking of hi-flowing mine... Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/39124-fitting-lowmount-turbs-to-a-gtr/#findComment-796520 Share on other sites
markr34gtr
should take someone whos done the job before about 8 hrs to 10hrs for a gtr lowmount turbo swap. so about 400 to 600 bucks.. if they havent done it before dont bother getting them to do it as you will pay for many more hours labour.. also some guys drop the engine and gearbox out and then its very fast to do the turbo swap.. but price would be close as the above way,,, cheers.
