Isb Or Thrust Bearing?

i was driving in traffic today when my gearknob started rattling all over the place (3rd gear) it always did it a little bit, but when this was really noticable i thought it was going to jump out of gear. when i got home i got under the car whilst it was idling and there was the noise of a rooted bearing coming from the gearbox. so i was wondering whether its likely to be the thrust bearing or the input shaft bearing? the noise disappears when i push the clutch pedal in, which has me thinking its the input shaft bearing

if it goes away when u press clutch it could be input shaft, check condition of gearbox oil and maybe replace oil and see if it makes a difference...

they way it shakes around when in gear leads me to believe its fairly stuffed. i think ill pull the box out and replace both the input shaft and thrust bearings for good measure. unless anyone knows of anything else it might be? oh and i assume that the input shaft bearing is like other cars in the 34, that is you have to crack the case open to get it out, it cant be done through the front of the bell housing?
