Sticky Interior Trims

Hey guys..

Wondering if anyone had ideas to help with sticky console pieces..

My guage cluster cover, radio surround and gear stick surround are all sticky..

all dust and anything floating in the car seem to stick to it.. tryed a few different wipes and nothing has worked or just made it look worse..

Any ideas short of buying new ones would be appreciated!!

in my old workshop, the detailer used something called 'sol prep'. i believe it was just a rebadged version of armourall's dash and trim cleaner.

What has been on them?

like cleaners, moisturisers etc...

sticky like glue or sticky like dust seems to be attracted to them?

markdem - "sol prep" do you mean "prep sol", if so I wouldnt go near an interior with that stuff....

I reckon give it a go, I had never painted anything before and after 2 years mine still looks the same as the day I did it... And no more sticky shit everywhere :S

In that link 666Dan starts off with Methylated Spirits which is 95% ethanol. So see if the stickiness dissipates with that first?

Meguiars used to make "The Professional Vinyl & Rubber Cleaner/Conditioner 40" with UV protectant. Not sure if it's still made. I have a bit left for my window mouldings.

i was hesitant at first but now i've done it, couldn't of been happier.

that sticky panels bugged me ever since i got the car.

Those sticky panels are one bane of the Series 1 R34. Mine has it, and it does shit me. Not enough to paint it though. lol

Paint them? Wrap that shit in carbon vinyl wrap! Looks mint and piece of piss to clean.

as a hobbiest detailer looking after 15 cars, my rec is einzsett cockpit premium - you can get it from waxit.com.au

itll leave a matte dry finish (has uv protectants in it)

it's all i use for interior plastics

He actually used prep-sol and the easiest to buy equivalent is Supercheap wax and grease remover.

I personally find IPA  isopropyl alcohol is the least aggressive solvent.

I used Bowdens Own Tar Remover on the sticky pieces when I had my R34. Took off the sticky coating without damaging the plastic underneath, left it bare, looked fine. Can be painted after if required
