OK guys I am looking for some advice.

I have an R32 GTST that is for the track only. I am fitting a full fiberglass body kit. Its one of those R324 kits.

My issue is the rear guards. I have taken the bodykit to allow more rubber and hopfully reduce weight.

My original thought was to remove as much of the outer and inner guards as possible to reduce weight and just leave enough to mount the new guard.

Then a mate of mine said he thought that may weaken the car and only take enough out to fit the tyres.

Question, cut it all out or leave it behind?

You need to only take out enough to clear the tyres. Taking out too much will weaken the car as the outer and inner panels are all welded together for strength/so they hold their shape. Have you got the wheels you'll be fitting to the car yet? Putting them on and seeing how much clearance you'll need is a good place to start. You wont really be saving alot of weight by fitting fiberglass quarters it's mainly for asthetics/to fit big rubber.

Thanks for that. That's exactly what my mate said. I have the wheels but may go wider again in the future. At max diameter now though as 18" is as big as you want to go for slicks.
