'Indexing' Spark plugs.. worth it?

I just read something on Indexing you spark plugs

ie Putting the spark plugs in so that the open side of the ground strip is facing the open cylinder and in best contact with the fuel/air

Is this really worth it?

Obviously it wouldnt be too good to have the open side facing the wall,

Ive hardly seen any info on this

Performance gains in a street car are minimal from what I've heard...

if you want the most out of your cars performance i suggest doing it. i have done it to my tx5, and noticed alot more pull up top.

which way should the earth strip face in rb25 so the open spark area is directed towards the air/fuel ?

u hafta aim the gap at ur exhaust valve/s. i cant help u with the rb25, so ur just gonna hafta get a head picture/diagram and work from there, or u could just aim it at ur exhaust ports. but again, im not sure on the rb25 spark plug placement/head design. good luck with it mate!

In the old days indexing was good because the combustion chambers were not symetrical so you'd aid the gap towards the area with less (or more, cant remember) 'squish' in the CC.

Nowadays with symmetrical pentroof designs, I'd say indexing wouldnt really matter much anymore, as the there is no unequal 'squish' area to aim the gap at. This is because the spark plug is in the middle of the CC, not on the outer edge ( like in the Ford Muscle article), so it shouldnt matter where its 'aimed' I'd say.

But yeah, never hurts to experiment anyway....

Busky is rite, seeing the plug goes in the top practically in the centre of the cylinder... There is no way the spark plug can go that would make it worse than another way.

I got conned into buying Iridiums only cos they didnt have the ones i wanted and i didnt know shit about the other plugs.

I did have: NGK V-power 9

But theyd never heard of them, so i ended up just getting iridiums.

They work fine, idle is heaps better, and they perform up top too.

No complaints as yet.

But if i can find the V-Power 9's somewhere ill be buying them

yeh i thought the skylines had the spark plug in the centre of the cylinder. so indexing wouldnt help as much, but its still worth a shot though, nothing to lose. im just used to my inferior sohc torque monster unrefined tx5. haha. thank god for turbos!

Hey i got a question on Iridiums,

It says on the box for them to not adjust the GAP because of the fine iridium point.

But at about 6500-7000rpm im getting some bog down and its presumably the plug gaps because they are at 1.1 and my last ones were 0.8

Seeing it has the 'fine point' instead of tapping the earth strip with a hammer, i was thinking i could put the plug in the vice and very gently bend the earth strip to 0.8

Thus not touching the fine iridium point at all

Has anyone gapped Iridiums?
