hey guys wondering on everyones opinion on how you launch your GTR for the 400m

to get the best 60ft..

depending if you have a clutch you can ride or not, in my case its either on or off. so launching 5k/ 6k just bogs a little on take off but no wheel spin.

i tried a 7k launch and it wheel spin all of first and got me my best time. is there better ways of doing this?

cheers

My best 60ft was a 1.59 not sure if thats good or just average. (33gtr)

was by just sidestepping the clutch at just under 8000rpm (in first gear) an planting throttle. the car got full traction at about 5,500rpm. had a set of 275/17 falken 452's i think (just normal street tyres) been back with cheap rubber an less power an couldnt get it to hook up spinning all of first = shit times

Honestly side stepping sounds impressive but is very hard on the drive train. Basically you are jolting any loose slack immediately with a lot of power. I prefer (as mentioned on several folks here interested in keeping their drive train on the car instead of under it) to preload using the handbrake. Bring it to 7-8k revs, hold handbrake and let out the clutch just enough until you feel the car lurch forward. Then you can sidestep on the green but you aren't jolting the drivetrain nearly has hard.

Also, I found that 22psi launched the best. Sounds low but has lots of initial bite. I've only done one full day of drags so interested in hearing what others run for tyre pressure on standard streets/semis.

yer that is a good idea, tried it a cpl times, tho the first time i probably got ready a lil early an the guy beside me didnt seem to be able to line his starting lights up so by the time we eventually went i had that nice clutch smell through my car. definately agree it would be easier on the driveline...cept the clutch. tho i never broke anything..not sure if its just good luck or the drivelines are just that tough.

Thats a quick 60ft'er! What time did you end up running ??

How much power to spin up all four? I have an awd Stagea with GTR gearbox and diffs and want to try for a 1/4 mile time (never been) - I will have somewhere between 300 - 350 awkw and I fear that just dropping the clutch at max revs the 255s won't spin but something will go bang!

I recall reading about the Group A R32 GTRs being launched at redline and one of the drivers being uncomfortable about doing it that way.

When I watched Best Motoring in those endurance races, they launched the R32 and R33 GTRs in 2nd gear.

As for how strong the drivetrain etc is. I've had 2 R33 GTR's and many different gearboxes, launched them hundreds of times and never broke anything launching. And never really bothered with any pre-loading or anything. One with only 400rwhp and one with lots more, always spins all 4 when you dump it. For the 1/4 it's definitely going have a better chance of hooking up with a little clutch slip.

To the OP, getting 1.5 60foot on streets is awesome. Especially with just stepping off the clutch cheers.gif

11.7sec ran 3 11.7's for the night tho 60ft got a lil slower later on as it cooled down but had a higher trap speed the 1.59 60ft run was at 185km trap speed an 1.71 was at 189km/h an had 1 run somwhere in between them all 11.7's also did 3 other not so good runs for the night. was my first time at the drags so was happy. 385hp at the wheels

can someone please explain side stepping?

i got a 1.89 60ft by dropping the clutch at 7k with wheel spin all of first on the limiter lol. ran a 12.1

got 315 rwkw with 255/35/18 profile tyre. kept pressure at 36 because it was still bogging down at 6500 rpm .

with my setup how would use do it?

what u are doing is called side-stepping, revving up close to limiter and dropping your foot off the clutch completely when launching
