Hey,

As you all know my car was stolen in September last year and the people who stole my car crashed and dumped it.

Insurance didn't wanna fix it because they said the damage is more than $20,000 to fix so I bought the car back and I've only spent $11,000 on it and now it's all good.

When I say it's all good,it's like in perfect condition both inside and out and mechanically.

Now I wanna license the car, called the department of transport to book an inspection and they told me that because the car was stolen and had front end damage,

it needs to be inspected for structural damage.I then called the workshop who does that inspection and now they said that I need to give him every single invoice of the parts

that I bought or has been changed or put on the car.Since the damage wasn't that severe, all I needed to replace was just my windscreen, bumper, bonnet, headlights, reinforcement bar, intercooler and gearbox.

I bought most parts off eBay last year, besides the gearbox (Hyperdrive bought and installed one for me).I didn't get most of the invoices or I might've deleted them off my e-mail.

The guy from Uneeda Tyre & Smash Repairs in Cannington said that they can't go ahead and inspect the car unless I show him those invoices.

What should I do ? Any help, tips or recommendations will be appreciated.

I think the department of transport is just insane, too ridiculous. pinch.gif .

Thanks,

Jeremy

what the hell does the invoices have to do with structural integrity? If the strut towers and rails havent been replaced then surely they can inspect them without knowing how much the fkn headlights cost you?

I would find out if anyone else can do the inspection, myself. It sounds a bit dodgy that they wont even look at the car without them. Fair enough if they looked and saw that the front rails had been cut and shut, then they would want to see proof it was done properly, but if it wasnt damaged, then what is it exactly that they need?

Yeah I know, they're insane.I'm booked in for tommorow.I'm just gonna show them the invoices for the bumper, bonnet, intercooler, reinforcement bar and windscreen.

As you can see here that was all I needed to change.

They ask for that for proof you didnt fix it from stolen parts. Just give them the invoices you have and maybe take photos with you so you can explain thats all that was needed. Screen shots should/might be enough for the ebay stuff. They might ask for an invoice for the labour too.. That happened to me once and I ended up having to sign a statutory declaration that i did the labour myself.

New law on repaired vechiles , They did that to stop stolen parts being used and inspections to stop dodgey back yarders .

did you pay for all the goods on ebay with paypal? you might be able to get the invoices / receipts from there, or request from the seller.

+1

paypal should store your invoices, if not purchase history - that should be some sort of indication

if you actually contact eBay about this, they might be able to 'unlock' or release to you the information about the sale (as they 'remove' it after 60 days or something like that)

I passed the written off vehicle inspection ,now just need to go the licensing centre and do the other inspection (whatever they check there usually).

Thanks !!

So what happened? Did they just inspect it or did you get receipts?

Nah,I just showed the all the receipts from PayPal and they were quite good actually or maybe they know it's a Skyline (unbreakable / bulletproof) lol.

They didn't even ask for the receipts for the labour ,like who installed all the parts and stuff.

    • Good morning all, Bit of a random question but figured I’d finally throw it out after wondering for a long while. Before I start, I'm hoping to do this purely out of personal preference. I think it would look better at night, and don't mind at all spending a few hours and dollars to get it done. I've copied this from a non-Skyline specific forum, so I apologize for the explanation of our headlight switch setup that we all know. Here we go: Zero lights (switch off) Parking lights (switch position 1) being a rectangular marker on the outside of the housing, my low beam being the projector in the centre (position 2), and a high beam triggered by my turn signal stalk. Most North American cars I’ve owned of this era have power to the amber corner (turning indicator) light as part of the first switch (parking lights). I’d love to have these amber corners receive power when the headlights and parking lights are on (headlight switch), yet still blink when using the turn signal which is of course a separate switch. Hopefully I’ve explained my question correctly. Is anyone aware of a way in which I might be able to achieve this? Thanks in advance
    • My heads are cathedral port! It's likely possible, but I don't want to add any extra moving parts (I know they don't move) between the heads, manifolds, etc. It will also affect how injectors/fuel rails etc sit and I don't really know if it would change how the FAST manifold goes/sits/fits. I have the LS6 steam pipes already as I have a very late LS1 block so it should be fine. I couldn't find anyone who had ever actually used one for this purpose, it seems 100% of people grind the water pump. The thermal spacers are 12mm and are half way to the cost of the newer water pump anyhow... so if it comes to that I suppose I'd rather buy a new pump. The bearing in the pump I do have is a little.. clunky, but it hasn't done that much time and I never noticed it when the car was together in the past few years, so..
    • The bushing has failed, not all that uncommon for a car of this age.  Any mechanic should be able to push in a new bushing for you, or you can probably buy the entire lower control arm, complete with bushes.
    • Could you not use "thermal" spacers to give the clearance, like the ones I used between the blower and head? That raised the manifold height by around 10-15mm Albeit the ones I used were for cathedral ports, but I assume they have similar for rectangular ports????
    • Thanks Paul I reached out to Autotainment but they no longer work on JDM cars as the guy who used to do the work moved on and is no longer doing that kind of work. I am talking with Level Up Audio though.
