Purely my opinion Marko but since you're asking I'm sure you'd want honest responses.

If it was a GTR....keep it!

The fact that it's a r33 gts (not even a 32 or 34), it is unfortunately the least sought after car of all the Skyline family.

Unfortunately it's worth very little now and unless it's going to finish up like Matty's (whatshisname) ride, it probably won't be worth much more with the extra mods.

IMHO, flog it and invest bud.

That is a fair statement, and I see where youre going with it. As a value thing, its pretty much on the lowest end scale right now but its the emotional attachment that comes with it which is where my decision lies. If I was to part it out I'd be looking at a mildly modified 33 GTR price range of things worth in parts, although the idea of a 33 GTR sitting in my garage is appealing in some ways, at the same time so is the idea of leaving them behind :P... but I'd probably put my money elsewhere if that was the case anyways.

Have you seen Love the Beast?

Yeah, quite a touching doco that, does hit home I must say hahaha.

I don't know how you could sell it Marko knowing you have the social responsibility that comes with owning a GTS-t that doesn't look like ass

what needs to be done to make it run

To be honest, to get it to run... not a whole lot.

Install front facing plenum, injectors back in, install surge tank and external pumps (wiring already done), re-do fuel lines for e85, re-do cold side intercooler piping, install cams and tune.

Its still on an un-opened motor so hopefully it holds up for a little while but I've got rb26 forged internals on stand by in case it decides to not wanna play.

Theres a lot of fiddly bits to do tho. Off the top of my head, still got to do the roll cage mounts for the front section, put all the body bracing in, re-do brake lines, get the alignment and brake cooling sorted, mount the seats in and theres heaps of body work still plus all the pieces for the semi sealed underbody and diffusers to be cut and mounted properly...

Keep it the little bit of money you get from it wont be fark all to invest !! And you will kick yourself later for selling it

It doesnt need to be a gtr to make you smile when you drive it !!

if you sell it buy a Z tune 34 for investment haha

Cars outrun realestate everytime if you know what to buy , buy some old cars from usa ( right pete) economy is crap and great buys around to make money faster then a house will here , the market conditions arent the best for houses right now , beside you can live in the car and drive it , but cant drive a house haha

iron chef imports us muscle now ???

Besides the world ends 21-12-12 anyhow lol

That's the key though Troy..."if you know what to buy".

There were over 2000 classic cars at the Mecum Auctions in Florida (which went over 6 days) with many selling for more than the cost of a family home......and that's with the shitty economy they're having too.

my $0.02

my 32 developed a bunch of problems in a short amount of time. it went from being bullet proof, to running like a pig along with copping some panel damage and the clutch and coilovers reaching the end of their servicable life in a matter of a month.

I tinkered away getting the car running properly again, fixed a vacuum leak and replaced a lot of the cheaper consumable parts on the car (O2 sensor, plugs, etc. etc.). I had the car running reasonably well for a short time, shortly after it went pear shaped with a bag ground (smoke off the battery, knackered starter solenoid and possibly a cooked ECU).

I bit the bullet and put it up for sale, i sold the car "as is" (ie, no rego, not running, and un-washed LOL.... gumtree is your friend), I also got rid of all my spares etc with the car cos i dont have heaps of spare time to sell the individually. the money from the sale, and not having the ongoing expenses allowed me to clear a LOT of debt and get myself well in the black within only a few months.

at the mo, im on the bus and saving $ and couldnt be happier. i do miss the car from time to time but im in a much better place now.

thats just my experience ;)

yeah that's the biggest problem with old cars........bottomless pit unfortunately!!

You're better off biting the bullet and forking out the extra $$ for something newer these days....not to mention that it keeps sapol off your back.

As they say, "the poor man always pays twice".

When i look back at the cars i dumped money in and sold too cheap

For a woman

For bills

For house

For travel

For 4x4

Back to sports car

For racing

pay to store it

Too much

Police attention

Having to swap emmisions yearly , for sniff test

Windows at 5% tint hassle

Having to rego it in another state for years to avoid the above , only to be harrassed by that local police and highway patrol why my car rego was in another state

Too much hassle

sold it to my best friend after 11 years for dirt cheap. Cause i thought he would care for it

he crunched the one of a kind body kit on a curb first week , i had just took it to bare metal and repainted it

Took hunks out of the new bbs wheels.. put on my old enkie racing only to ruin those too on curbs

The next month he siezed the brand new bridgeport racing motor by not checking the oil daily , old rotor oil injection in the webbers used oil about a quart a month , spin it to 11k on 40 degree day = death

The car sat rotting and he wouldnt sell it back to me he was going to fix it !!

3 months of labour to take it back to bare metal and fix all the dings and fiberglass cracks

He let it sit with 4 other dead rx7 from lack of oil or water till his new wife said dump the cars

All 5 went for less then 2k to wholesale wreckers .,, my car had 40k worth or parts at least but i didnt know , it was sold at auction lot his dad did it and had no idea except to get rid of them from his yard

I could have cried , it sat out across my street for a long time shattered to rot and then most likely crushed after stripped o all the goodies

Today that car would get 50k easy

Or my datto 1200 coupes i bought for 75 bucks they sell for 10k now

70 Opel gt with 11,000 miles in it ( found in a backyard the guy who owned it died in vetnam) paid 200 for it so rare now they sell for damn near 20k with 100,000 miles on it

Lousy car but still?

New cars

My v10 dodge 4x4 had the front axle fail 2 weeks after i bought it !!! Second time i put in 4x4 and not flog it either

Mitsu vr4 galant blew the rare evo motor at idle threw a balance shaft and under warranty it took 3 months to import a evo motor from japan , they made 2000 of those only for usa rare as hell

Mazda 626 new off the showroom floor , radiator cracked after 2 weeks on a trip to texas in the middle of whoop whoop

Under warranty but still a hassle worse then a paid for old car cause your still paying for it while it sits for parts

Cars are money pits new or used , plan to keep it a long time or sell it and buy a scooter , and pay off the credit.

Invest the rest asap or you'll blow it in a heartbeat and have no car or money !!

My car doubles as a coffin lol they can bury me in it so its a investment lol

Mercum is not the place to buy cars unless your after big dollar cars , lots of auctions hide some great buys once imported back to australia are worth a mint , turn that a few times and you could be smiling quickly and you get a trip to the states bonus ! if you like the TSA at the airport the big dark lady with the painted on uniform from being so tight

You only live once so if you enjoy it just finish it

No regrets

you'll have other things you sell over time and kick yourself later Everyone does

Happiness is worth more then money

If it doesnt make you happy or money dont do it !!

Put an EOI post up in for sale thread... if enough interest is gained... shes come to an end of a life and a chapter in mine will be closed :( I dont want to do it but theres over 20k worth or parts just sitting there and I'd rather have that invested and making me more money rather then then collecting dust and rotting away.

If not enough interest is shown in the next week or so, ill finish it.

Sigh... that was a bit heartbreaking listing the bigger bits and bobs but what can you do :(:(:(

Marko, I know how you feel! Last August, I had the ugly decision to make also!

My honest opinion would be to part it, and get yourself an appreciating asset, like property! Its heart breaking at first, but when you look back, and into your wallet a few months later, its all worth it! Ie: are you paying for something you cannot use or enjoy?

More than happy to help out in any way possible, to make the decision/outcome easier also :) beers required!
