Can anyone confirm for me the capacity of coolant required to flush the radiator completley?

I thought it was around 9 litres but when draining it earlier today only 4 litres of coolant came out. For refilling I used another 4 litres and this filled it up. Took the car for a drive for about half an hour and the temp gauge didn't go past ther half way marker.

I had the climate control on max (and disconnected the external temp sensor) so the heater core should have drained but even if it didn't it couldn't hold 4.5 litres.

Just doesn't sound like the correct amount to me.

well, the workshop manual says total water capacity = 8.7l.

I've never done this myself, but the instructions for cars with Climate Control is remove "the external sensor connector" then turn to hot. Not sure exactly what they mean by external sensor tho.

Thanks Duncan,

disconnecting the external temp sensor effectively tells the climate control unit that it is less than -30 degrees outside so no matter what setting the Climate control is set to it will always think it has to supply heat, hence the heater radiator valve will be open. (So I think).

I think this might be my problem. I am unsure whether water flows through this heater raditator all the time and is only ducted when required.

Can anyone confirm this. There must be someone out there who has changed the coolant in their 32 GTR

r32 gtr , you can never get all the coolant out unless you strip the engine .

when fashing the system out you put the ignition to on and set the climate control to the hiest poss temp + undo the plug on the block ( its on the exhaust side under the forn ex pipe ) , that will let most of the coolant out of the cil head and block then you should use about 7 -8 lts to refill . when you refill there is a breather plug on the front of the intake manifold colector , that will make it easier to refill as it lets the air out of the system

sorry mate that should be front exhaust pipe , thats where the drain plug is on rb 26 's . i must say its not easy to get to , you may need a mirror to see it .the drain plug in the radiator will only let the out the radiator coolant and not much more . by undoing this plug you will get almost all the coolant out , if you want you can undo 1 of the heater hoses and blow compressed air so you get all the heater coolant out too .

i hope that helps you .
