Just wanting to know if there is a stering rack which would replace the power stering rack so that it would be non powerstering. I want to get rid of the Hiclass?? or whatever its caled and much profer the feall of non powerstering for the track. Any help would be much appreasheated thanks

Get rid of HICAS by all means. It's easy enough. Non-HICAS subframe into the rear, bin all the plumbing and HICAS solenoids. Replace the power steer pump with an R33 or R34 one. But don't get rid of the power steer at the front. When running sticky tyres on wide wheels with lots of caster and camber, power steering makes it much better. Power steer racks are also faster ratio than manual racks (not that there's an obvious manual rack that I can think of for the R32 anyway), so you need smaller movements of the steering wheel to achieve the same steering movement at the road wheels.

Just spend $150 on a hicas lock bar and remove the redundant lines from under the car. Leave the power steering pump alone and just loop the lines so it feeds the cooler section of the circuit. Plenty of info on how to do it on this forum.

If you are going to go to the bother of changing subframes then you may as well get one with better geometry.

S14 would be my choice, offset bushes are readily available through drift part suppliers so it can be mounted. You'll need to get an s14/15/r33/34 back cover for the diff.

As for your initial question; Your easiest option is to manualise (it's not really a word) your current rack. Basically it involves pulling it apart, removing the internal seals, greasing it up and blocking a few holes up. There are write ups on a few silvia forums on how to do it.

With an RB up front i wouldn't recommend it. I have no power steering in my s13 track car and it's okish. It was better when the car was NA with less weight over the front end, it's a bit too heavy now that it's a turbo with intercooler, bigger radiator, oil cooler, ducting, etc adding weight up front.

And, I have neither on my car. Well, alright, I do have rose jointed caster arms. But these will have to come off when my car goes through Regency soon. But the problem is that HICAS is a steering component, and therefore modifying by replacing with a lock bar is treated as fairly serious. However, if the whole rear subframe is changed, and there's no other HICAS equipment on the car, you can always say "nah, this one's only 2WS", and there's nothing to worry about.

GTSBoy does make a fair point if legality is an issue.

I actually just locked up the factory rack in mine with some home made 5mm thick washers and unpluged one plug on the hicas controller in the boot. It looked stock and didn't stuff the steering weight. I removed everything else later.

That was only because lock bars weren't commonly available at that time though.

    • Add these Sensors -Wideband, Oil Pressure, Fuel pressure, Intake air temp Good inspection of ignition system of coils, plugs and loom (12v feed and good ground)- a r35 kit is best bang for buck upgrade. A decent tuner should be able to see any issues with the trigger system- a link has good filtering but a good simple upgrade is the nz wiring bolt in kit. Check and replace all the fuel filters- you would be surprised at intank filter after a few years. Also good to check for any leaks on vac hoses and pipe work as has been said. No need to go overboard and spend big $$$ to enjoy the car. A quality tuner is getting harder to find as anyone with a laptop thinks they are a tuner. A link has great features to check sensor voltages and frequency inputs and easy to see live by pressing f12. The link can do a TPS & RPM fuel/ignition mapping on ITB cars then add a 4D table with MAP and ability to add a 5D to it (can help with economy at cruise with wheel speed vs TPS) Where are you located as that will help narrow down a good tuner ?
    • Reviving an old thread, I reckon my stagea is starting to slip. Car usually gets parked on a hill, narrow driveway so cant go up the driveway smoothly, anyhows, lately first gear feels "sluggish"? Not responsive. Feels like I gotta run the engine more than usual to get off the line...  Any recommendations for transmission servicing in Sydney? Or possibly just an excuse to go manual ?
    • Well, moulded carpets should fit well if the buck they use is the right shape. The finish is then just a case of stiching the trim around the edges. Shuoldn't be too hard to get it right. Back in the day, replacement carpets were all "fitted", in that they were stitched together, with cuts and slices taken out to make them form the shapes. Many more opportunities to get it wrong, hence all the concern over good vendors and bad vendors.
    • A timely blog via AASA (keeping in mind they sell brake fluid of course...) https://www.msbgarage.com/blog/news-and-blogs/brake-fluid-what-should-i-use/
