JPCR33
Hey guys in need of a boost controller. Don't know allot about them but need one before my tune. What are people on here running? I hear the greddy is popular I can get the blitz spec s for 100$ less then the greddy Profec b 2. Which one would be the way to go? Thanks in advance Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/393897-boost-controller-opinions/ Share on other sites
MUZT3K
I got the greddy, had it in both my cars love it Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/393897-boost-controller-opinions/#findComment-6263741 Share on other sites
joeyjoejoejuniorshabadoo
for $100 less go the blitz. basically the same EBC. I have the blitz spec 2 in my car and it holds 20 psi with about a 1.5psi drop around 6000-7000 revs which TBH is fine by me at that rev range Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/393897-boost-controller-opinions/#findComment-6263789 Share on other sites

brentos
If you want a manual one man you can't go past the $30 Turbotech one, I am still using mine at this power level and it is still working well. But if you want an EBC the above suggestions are good Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/393897-boost-controller-opinions/#findComment-6267832 Share on other sites
white180sx
mate depending on your plans with the car, i would get the turbosmart eboost street. I have it in my car and love it. Holds boost really well. I had a profec B which was ok until you start running over 20 psi. paulr33
one thing that is important to remember regardless of what controller you use is that be careful and aware of the pressure difference between the actuator or gate spring and what you want to run ie if you run 7psi spring and you want run 22psi thats a lot of work for any controller and the results might be spiking boost / tapering off boost or inconsistent you should run a spring that suits your "mininmum possible boost" and then use a controller to let you bleed a few PSI over that mininmum ie if you want 21 psi then run springs that give you say 17psi minimum and bleed the rest via controller and lastly if you see boost pressure taper off in the rev range its probably excessive exhaust back pressure (housing too small or boost too high) Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/393897-boost-controller-opinions/#findComment-6267972 Share on other sites
paulr33
I had a profec B which was ok until you start running over 20 psi. as per above - any controller can let you run any pressure ie 57psi if you like providing the base spring level is half reasonable it sounds like you might have had the wasgate spring too low, ie 7psi spring trying to bleed 20psi Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/393897-boost-controller-opinions/#findComment-6267976 Share on other sites
paulr33
and/or the housing is too small or exhaust back pressure is excessive even with a 15psi spring a small housing can yield poor boost control as well or "tapering off boost" is what most people see and they usually blame controller and try to find a better controller that can hold boost Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/393897-boost-controller-opinions/#findComment-6267982 Share on other sites
W0rp3D
ive got a powerfc boost kit for sale to suit ecr33 for cheap If you have a power fc this would be my first choice, my second is a Gizzmo ebc, i have one and it works great and is not expensive because it is only an ebc, does not have any other wank factor attached, i would recommend almost any other ebc before a boost T or adjustable wastegate, the way an ebc works much better than any boost T. paulr33
there are a few additional features the powerfc boost kit has over a seperate controller 1 - plug and play no extra wiring or controllers 2 - boost displayed on hand controller 3 - boost correction is enabled on the ecu 4 - safety fuel cut if boost exceeds target by 0.25kgcm2 - ie split vac lines 5 - you can use the boost reading in logging if used with datalogit to better tune boost build Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/393897-boost-controller-opinions/#findComment-6269732 Share on other sites
ssxRicho
Ran a turbotech T for ~25 track days @ 14PSI. Only changed as the latest shell had an EBC installed and it worked...Don't have to fug around with wiring with a T. W0rp3D
With an ebc set up right you don't have to worry about boost creep or drop off, personally I have spent the money on an ebc as its more accurate than the old hks adjustable wastegate I had. gtsttrk
Blitz Spec S is a very, very good unit. But what levels of boost are you looking to run? Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/393897-boost-controller-opinions/#findComment-6269861 Share on other sites

Birds
EBC can't be beat for maximum power and drivability, but for small to moderate power increases, the Turbotech boost T does an amazing job given it's cost. Never spiked or failed me in any way and I've never heard a bad thing about them!
