Hey

I don't have really any knowledge on skylines its a car that i've admired and recently purchased one 1995 R33 GTR with 49,000 on the clock

I took it for a test drive, drove really well, smooth gear changing no clunks or anything... there was only one problem clutch bearing which the seller said would have to be replaced.

The body and interior are immaculate.

After i got it home gave it a clean i took it to the mechanics the next day, i got a call that afternoon with a list of problems....

Gear box re-build

Clutch Kit

L/H outer CV boot & R/H Inner and outer CV boots

Timing Cover oil leak/timing belt water pump inc coolant

Two new rear tires

I thought ok a few problems, but I'll get them fixed and be done with it.... then i got a call the next day saying that there's barely any pressure in the engine

the back turbo is stuffed.. then he wanted to do a wet/dry test and after that he found out that the pistons where gone and that pretty much i need a new engine/Re-build.

As i said i don't really have any knowledge of these cars, I've gathered that I've bought a lemon of a car.. I'm asking for ADVICE on what i can do, and if any one could help me out..

The mechanic gave me 3 options

Rb25 Re-built ( cheapest option.)

RB26 Rebuilt.

My RB26 Re-built + New Turbos ( Most expensive option )

With a car that supposedly has 49,000 on the clock the engine should still be running in fine order, but from the mechanic said its absolutely thrashed and it has done double the amount of km's that are on the clock.

I've looked into the fair trading act and looked up the odometer being rewound laws and if i can prove some how that has been rewound i'll be compensated for the all the costs of the car and the other party will get a hefty fine

but thats only if i can prove it... otherwise i'm pretty sure i'm out of options and just have to fork money for the rebuild either way i will be doing that.

ANY HELP/ADVICE is appreciated

Cheers

Chris.

surely IF the engine was so rooted u would have noticed driving it around?

and why would the gearbox need a rebuild if you said it was fine to drive? it either works or it doesn't lol

I THINK your mechanic is taking u for a ride...

Definitely take it somewhere else before you make a decision/ waste money on it

Fair Trading is investigating one dealership atm.

ACA is trying to get interviews about another from various sources.

You said the word "Seller" > Did you obtain this car from a dealership or private sale?

Where are you from - and did you buy it local to where you reside?

+1, my bullshit detector went off. Get it towed to a skyline specialist, and add your city to your profile so we can suggest some options.

Also;

- If the rear turbo was dead, it would have made no boost. It is possible that the rear turbo let go while the mechanic had it, but that's not the mechanics fault. Sometimes when the rear turbo goes it kills the motor.

- suggesting an R25 rebuild for a GTR is retarded

- dont trust the kms on the speedo - its almost certainly not accurate, but you've got almost no chance of proving that its been done or who did it

- Please PM me the name of this workshop (you can't post it publicly on this forum).

And Bryn & Adam, fancy being done over by both a seller and a mechanic within say a month!!!

That would piss me off big time!!! :domokun:

Yes, one can't tell who the culprit was that tampered with the odometer.

The car must be taken to a RB engine specialist, as Adam says.

PM sent. If anyone knows of a good shop anywhere near Hornsby please make a suggestion, because I dont know of any in that area. There's a couple of just ok ones in the Hills district but I wouldn't go as far as to recommend them.

Wow mate, what a bit of bad luck.

It sounds like you bought the car with no RWC? or what ever they are called in NSW?

If you DID however purchase it from a dealer, than the issues should be covered by them. If how ever you purchased it privately, AND there WAS a RWC supplied, than you need to contact the business or inspector who gave it the tick, and start asking some very serious questions.

Otherwise, if buying an unroadworthy car, ALWAYS get it inspected before purchase. People who claim to be selling a cur unreg or with no RWC as they "dont have time" or "it just needs new brake pads to pass" are full of shit.

But you dont need hear this mate, im sure you realise the very expensive mistake you have made.

As much as there was 19,000+ of them made, it is highly doubtful that a car from the first run of GTRs being 17 years old and having been imported to another country would have 49,000 genuine KMs. This is why you can still buy a thrashed out GTS25T with only 120,000ks on the clock that has been in the country for near on ten years.

Situation is rough mate.

Definitely get a second or even third opinion and good luck with your problem.
