Hey guys, not sure if this topic has been addressed before. If it has please direct me to the link as i couldnt find it.

Im wondering the differences between the FMIC and the pod filter, perfomance wise. The EPA law states that you cannot have both the pod filter and the intercooler i was wondering which system would have better power gain compared to the other. Also if i could get some pro's and cons to each of them it would be great.

Thanks in advance

You lose next to fcvk all power keeping an airbox.

You lose heaps of power with a stock FMIC

Hence why everyone puts a FMIC when upgrading turbo (stock hi-flow replacement) etc, and keeps the airbox.

Not obviously breaching EPA, and best performance all at once.

This is really all I could come up with.

Pod (in comparison with airbox + good filter)

Pros:

- Sound. (can be a con if you don't want loud intake noise)

- Ever so slight power gain at best (non-GTR airboxes I've read and I'm remembering from vague memory aren't a restriction till around 330kw, GTR owners even keep the stock airbox beyond the 400kw mark)

- Ever so slight response increase

Cons:

- Unshielded will draw in hot air, negating any power increase. (Require additional CAI ducting to stop enginebay air being used)

- Filtration can be non-existent with some brands (HKS mushroom pods aka rock stoppers for example)

FMIC (in comparison with SMIC)

Pros:

- Virtually no heatsoak (in turn can help prevent the engine knocking)

- Cooler charge, more power at the same boost level

Cons:

- Slightly less throttle response (some people report no response loss, sometimes even better response)

- Might need reo-bar trim to install (can be a can of worms with roadworthy-ness)

so lets say you got defected once and cleared it. Do you get into a lot more trouble if you get defected for the same thing twice, becaiuse if thats the case i can always take the pod off when going to the pits and put it back on after clearing it.

Keep stock box get a highflow filter

Then get a nice return flow fmic

You wont have to worrie about anything then

i reckon a dumb copper would defect me coz he'll think its the same thing.but yh thanx ill try getting one of them

The issue is not just getting defected for the pod and clearing it by swapping over but its also the cop will probably give you a major defect for it just to be a dick which means youll need a roady too now that could possibly make things much harder then just swapping over pod espcially these days.
