Bah, well after spending all evening pulling things apart and trying to fit this plenum it has resulted in yet more disappointment. My $400 catch can will not fit with the plenum, it sits just in front of the throttle body leaving no room for any cooler piping. Devastated :(

Edited by Hanaldo

That's a kick in the pants! Possibility of having the catch can modified to work??

Yehh I'm quite annoyed that it won't fit, I love that thing. Would have gone so well with the new plenum and other shiny bits. I'm currently talking to Brad at Pro Fab to see if we can come up with a solution, but this is how it sits:

It really is in the way by quite a lot. Will see if Brad has any ideas anyway, if anyone can come up with a solution then it's him :)

Anyway, might as well do a bit of an update. Stuffed around yesterday for a bit but didn't really accomplish anything, but as of right now this is how things are looking.

Bonnet is off for ease of access:

My mate looking a little enthusiastic. We jacked up the car to save our backs, the damn engine sits at about thigh-height otherwise.

This toolbox now has about 200hp:

Seriously though, everything is apart:

While we were removing things I decided the stock heat shield looked like utter rubbish, and as a 6Boob manifold is a little out of my price range just yet, I gave it a lick of paint to at least hide it away better:

Dummy fitting the fuel rail and plenum:

Fuse box is obviously in the way, so we removed the stock windscreen washer bottle and moved the fuse box over as much as possible:

Mounted the Sard regulator:

Aaaand finally when I got frustrated, I thought I'd see how the new valley cover looks:

IMG_0147-1.jpg

The rocker covers are disgusting I know, as soon as the plenum and rail are on I'll be getting the covers off and cleaning them up a bit to get them ready for the -10 fittings and some powdercoating.

In our excited state to get started on the plenum, we forgot all about checking the base timing so we could install the new carbon timing cover which I'm a bit annoyed at myself about, but oh well. Yesterday we went and picked up all the hoses and things that we need, also picked up a universal washer bottle that sits wider than it does deep and doesn't have a filler neck. Going to mount it in the same position as the stock one, in the wheel well under the battery tray, but making a bracket for it has so far been a pain in the farkin ass. I think I'm just gonna go buy some ally flat bar which would make it a lot easier.

I was hoping to have the injectors installed by now, but a bit worryingly they sit quite loosely in the fuel rail. I bought them with the 11mm top caps to suit the 11mm fuel rail, and having measured both of them with SnapOn vernier calipers, they are both the correct sizes. But the top cap was very easy to get into the fuel rail, and it wobbles around a little bit. Not a lot, but enough to make me question whether it is sealing properly. Comparing it to the Power Enterprise injectors in the stock rail, they also wobble a little bit but they were at least firm to get in and out. So not sure what is going on there.

I'm also still waiting for my Speedflow fittings and braided hose to arrive, so couldn't plumb up the fuel rail just yet either but that's ok. Really as it is we just need to get the bracket done for the washer bottle, change the fuel filter, clean things up a bit while the plenum is off, and then the Plazmaman should be ready to go on. Having dummy fitted it, it's a bit tight trying to get the bolts in but everything lines up perfectly and the plenum came with all the fittings and bolts necessary, and the stock throttle cable fits so it's a very easy install.

Awesome job of the build thread dude!! Really does look good :worship:

I do want to steal your wing tho :whistling: Looks good!!

Some basterd stole your badge off the fuel rail haha......

I have a set of RB25 cam covers with speedflow -10 fittings already welded on if you where interested?

th_IMG-20110816-00117.jpgth_IMG-20110816-00118.jpg

PM me if your keen. Will be cheaper than having your welded!

Steve

Ah, wish I'd found you about a month ago haha :( Already bought the fittings and things though, I can get the fittings welded on through my mates work so that won't cost me anything. Thanks for the offer though mate. Out of interest, why are you selling them??

Haha cheers man, if I ever meet the jerk that stole my HKS badge Ima poke him in the eye :P Jokes lol, I have been thinking about getting one made up to replace it though... Looks like a cheap copy without it, nobody will ever appreciate my taste :( Lol.

Exciting stuff mate.

You wait until you have that Plenum fitted

Awesome throttle response.

Engine roar will come alive like hell.

You're not the only one with custom washer bottle/ catch can.

Everyone with a Plazmaman had the same head scratcher, oh shit, bloody washer bottle is in the way.

End of the day,

You will love it.

Watch those stock internals

I love it just sitting on the runners without even a bolt in it! :P Replacing nearly all the engine hoses with some very nice fuel hose as well, very nice looking stuff, it will look great when it's back together :D I'm a bit weary about the internals, but when I did a compression test I got between 180-182psi across all 6 cylinders, so it's a very healthy motor. I don't drive around on high boost a lot either, I usually drive at gate pressure (14psi) which would only be about 300-320rwhp. I only push the little red button when I'm taking mates for a ride or trying to have a bit of fun :P

I was hoping my braided hose and fittings would turn up today, but no luck :( Will be working on the car again tomorrow, see if I can get the washer bottle relocation done and the injectors.

Dude, have you tried flipping that custom breather setup 180 and tuck it into the corner? I'm sure it would be cheaper to change the lines rather than the whole thing? :ermm:

If by some fluke those dicks at the workshop that lost my HKS badge find it or have hidden it in the car somewhere ill call you and send it to you, they are the worst workshop i have ever dealt with

If you are going to run external gate and screamer you are going to find the 14psi will drive you mad as the gate will be opening all the time..... The internals will love it!! The NEO's are pretty tough mate, just dont go limiter bashing like i used too and you will be fine lol

I haven't actually, I'll give that a go. Would look pretty gay though I think confused.gif

Haha nahh I've been driving around with the screamer and gate at 14psi for almost 5 months now (wow mellow.gif), it doesn't drive me crazy at all :P I don't just drive around on low boost because I'm worried about the motor though, if I was then I wouldn't have got a turbo capable of this power. The two main reasons I leave it on low boost is because it means I won't get use to the 400hp as quickly so it still feels fun, and the noise this thing makes on high boost is absolutely ridiculous. On low boost it is loud and I try not to gate through areas where there might be cops, but on high boost people call the cops to report a plane crash laugh.gif

By the way, I'll get that video of the injectors today, show you what I mean. Hopefully I can figure it out, but if not then hopefully someone here cool.gif

awesome build mate! similar to what i did

except i de+t at the beginning (for 1.5years until ringland on piston 6 said see ya later) and now its running a complete DET with forge bottom end.

there was a member who sold the dash 8 or dash 10 fittings for the rocker cover, that you remove the old ones and pop the new one in. he isn't making these anymore tho, which is a shame as they were perfect!

where did you get yours from?

Dori - Haha i have been corrupting him as much as possible :P I didn't know you had done the bottom end though, Hanaldo and i will be running stock bottom ends

Hanaldo - I wish i had thought about the rocker cover fittings before Craved coated them, but doesn't matter, ill just run a stock breather setup for a while until i sort it out.... If you get rid of the aftermarket breather setup, what will you go too man?

Haha thanks man. I did contemplate the DE+t, and in fact just before I had the issues with the old gearbox I had started looking out for the parts to do the conversion. I think I'm much happier with the road I went down though :D

Yeh Brad (Risking), the guy who made my catch can used to make those push in AN fittings. He had started looking into getting another batch made up when I bought my fittings, so they may be available again soon. I got mine from Speedflow Direct, Andy is a very helpful bloke and BY FAR the best prices I have found.

I blame you for half the work I'm doing right now by the way, not cool man :P

If I can't get this catch can to work then I'll have to sell it and get Brad to make me another one that does fit. I have wanted a proper baffled catch can/rad overflow setup for a long time which is why I was so happy with this one, no way I'll be going to anything else now :P

Thanks for the shout out, mate! But those photos are truly AWEFUL!! I'm still not very good, but better then that! Lol. Good to see I've come a long way!

Speaking of coming a long way (hehehehe...), this car certainly has! From when I first met you when it was NA, it's crazy how much you've put into this car! Good work mate, we'll have to catch up again when it's running for another shoot.

suggestion: wrinkle paint your valve covers...

c2.jpg

in black...

+ carbon valley cover, FF plenum. PORN.

Yehhh I'm not sure yet hey, I was thinking wrinkle black but I'm worried about scratching it. I would rather get them powdercoated and was thinking metallic gun-metal.

Not sure what I'll do yet.

Haha there you are! I'm glad you think those photos are bad, means you can get some better ones next time; right now they are still the best photos I have of the car haha. Yehh it's come a long way hey. So have I in a way though, I was reading through the 'build' thread on WCC the other day, fwark it makes me cringe at how nieve and ignorant I was. Didn't have a clue back then hey :P

I know! We've all come a long way. Remember the "build" thread for my 33? I added camber arms, rolled the guards, then sold it. Awesome build thread! Lol

Actually I haven't been on SAU for months, not having a Skyline anymore and all, so it was lucky I found this thread.

My intake pipes were done in wrinkle black and i'm not a fan!

I think with all of your shiny bits you should stay on the same path

You're obsessed with black and you're not a fan!? Haha. Yehh I'm leaning towards the metallic black at the moment, mostly because the powdercoating is a lot stronger and easier to keep clean.

Haha yehhh, cool kids hey :P

I didn't think you came on here much anymore, I was gonna hit you up on FB once it was running about doing another shoot though. I need new photos with the new wheels and more low :P

    • Yeah, even here in SA they used to not allow coilovers if they could be adjusted (down) after they'd been inspected and "passed" at Regency, because....you could just drive away and lower it. But now they take the view that they may as well just pass them, and if you lower it below the limit then it's on you when you get defected and they will make your life harder on the subsequent clearance inspection.
    • Just to give an update coilovers passed without any issue!
    • Ducan , yeah sure mate , the unit is https://www.carlinkit.com/ambient TBox Ambient -  plugs straight into the USB C and it runs as a android  unit and you can link your phone to it via Bluetooth , but it only allows for one phone at a time. you can download and apk files you want and load it on there , I downloaded a basic maps apk (OsmAnd+ — Maps & GPS Offline) so I can run navigation without data usage , its not as good at google or wazes but it works fine for what I need. I can put up screen shots if you like. Cheers Pac
    • Hey Team , just got the Fujitsubo unit installed , not a big db difference but it does sound better across the rpm range , I have the front pipe on order I'll post a video with sounds when that has also been installed.
    • The gearbox in my R32 GTS4 (now with RB25DET) has just over 300k on it . Life includes some track time. Has had one change of oil in its lifetime. I rev match on down changes. I don't have any problems with synchros or gear crunching.
