** Sau Sa Track Day 5 **

Survival of the fittest, haha. Very true..........

This is why these track days are so good. Plenty of action in the morning. Everyone out there having a go.

As the day wears on, the inevitable battle scars start to take their toll.

Street tyres are starting to melt. Normal brakes are feeling the strain. Cooling systems & fuel systems start to feel

the pressure. The better your driving gets, the less the car wants to keep doing whats its told.

This is what it is all about. You just cant drive on the street like this.............

By the mid afternoon, those "still standing" will have the track almost to themselves. (Thats why my brother is bringing

Radical SR8 out!) He got stuck at the last "practice day" with a bunch of retarded organisers that made him go out

with cars doing 2 laps in the time he could do one!!! Sure enough, there was a crash on the main straight & someone

went to hospital with a tyre up their ass 'cause they didnt see a "blue flash" coming from behind............

Drive to your ability, & if a faster car is coming, get the hell out of the way..............

It is going to be a great day, I am looking forward to catching up with everybody. Some of the fastest laps dont happen

till the end of the day, so for those that really want a thrill, hang around. You might get a passenger ride if you are lucky!

....think I'm going to steel my dad's GT-R on the day and try to 'follow', don't think the 32 GTS-t is going to be either setup or have enough power to keep-up lol.

In saying that John, isn't the general rule in most track-days is to 'stick to your line, and let them over-take you?'. Just remember a certain BMW and Porsche incident few years back at a KPM race day when that didn't happen.

Hey guys, I am really keen to get out there & have a blast around the track. The last time I went I was not happy with my brakes, they were

shaking a lot & felt out of balance. The GTR is at the workshop now having this attended too & while the wheels are off I have a new set of

slicks being fitted. These ones being replaced are my first set & I remember how awesome they were when they were new so I can't wait

to get that "new rubber" feeling again. I have owned this R33 GTR for 12 years now, but with such a long time between track days it takes

me a few sessions to get "in the groove" before I can really enjoy it. Once I get the hang of it, I just LOVE driving this GTR.

I will drive my R35 out to the track as well. It will have a few new mods done by the guys at Willall. pause for a minute silence for the white GTR...

.......................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

So, while the R33 is cooling down I am going to really try to get a good time out of the R35 (with the $@%#$ tyres that are on it)

This is going to be a bit of fun. It is so heavy compared to the R33 but will have awesome power so be interesting to see what it does.

I am pretty bad with names, but make sure you come up & say hello on the day. Other than the "raffle" winner I may decide to do a few

other passenger rides so dont be shy.... the worst I could say is.......hop in!

Also, check out this link posted by a radical owner. The Blue Radical following is my brother Daniel's which he is bringing out to this tack day.

After this race, once my bro got into the groove he caught him & passed him!

LOL John, we've gone from Track Days to Winnebagos !!

....so while we're on the subject, :P I sold my luxury monster last week for $65K so I may come & have another look in your yard.

I'm guessing that amount of cash will only be good for a deposit on a new bus :O

I am sure we will be able to find something suitable for you.................be good to catch up.

Hey Munro

Can you take a winnie up Mt Alma next time? I reckon that'd bring the lols. And we could bet on it and give the proceeds to charity.

Just sayin.

(Note to self - dont let munro drive said winnie. Let Blue32 drive the winnie)

  • 2 weeks later...

Hi Guys,

I'll be heading out for a look-sie during work in the morning.

Will be good to meet a few people and see some progress on peoples cars.

Unfortunately I'm not entered, and car isn't quite ready for track conditions yet.

See you all there

we run groups based on skill levels

so if you feel you don't have skills or have never driven on the race track you can go in the beginner group and feel comfortable that all the people in your group are very similar skill levels

    • Much less twat-tastic. CF wheels are too garish for civilised use.
    • From there, as the manual says....assembly is the reverse of disassembly, no tricks worth mentioning Much better (for me)
    • In my case, the standard wheel I had was in good condition but the buttons had more wear, so I swapped them across from the original wheel from the car. The plastic rear cover is held on by 4 tabs, and once the wiring is removed you can get access to 2 screws on each side the hold the buttons in From there I just swapped the wiring over. What was interesting is the standard style wheel is 2.0kg but the carbon fibre one is 50% heavier at 2.9kg. It even has a weight inside the wheel at the top to make up for some sort of imbalance in the design. weird
    • Once the airbag is off, to remove the steering wheel.... Undo the 2 plugs into the clock spring, and the horn connector from it's clip. Hit the 19mm nut with a rattle gun (preferably) or if you don't' have one, you probably want an assistant to hold the wheel in place while you use a breaker bar to undo the nut Then, screw the nut back on 3 turns, and pull the wheel sharply towards you. If that doesn't work hit it medium force with a rubber mallet on either side, or possible behind if you can get there. If that all fails (it shouldn't!) you might need a steering wheel puller
    • So, to next task....the carbon fibre steering wheel was either an expensive factory option or a chinesium special. Either way, I don't like either the flat bottom or thick ring style, so it had to go So...to remove the steering wheel.... First, disconnect battery negative and stomp on the brake pedal for a few seconds. Then, remove the small circular covers on each side of the wheel's rear surround to uncover the airbag clips. You need to push something like a flat bladed screw driver through, to push the steel clip inwards and pull the side of the airbag forward. Once you've done the easy side, same on the centre console side. You can see the tab you are shooting for circled in red Then, disconnect the horn spade connector and for the yellow airbag plug you need to get something small under the black locking tab to pop it out, then the connector releases......airbag is off
