Looking at a Tomei Extreme Ti cat back exhaust system but want to confirm what the ID of the rear muffler is. Has anybody actually seen one or own one...measured one?

I understand the tube diameter is 89.1mm OD, just want to make sure the muffler does not drop in diameter to 3" etc

Yeh, but if I am spending that much money on an exhaust I dont want it to cost me a single bloody kw. I only make 250 odd :( I have some prices for some thing guage stainless mufflers and pieces and if I cant get a solid answer on this exhaust will be going twin 2.5" with a 4" dump with wastegate plumb back in. I currently lose around 6-7% of my power when I plumb the gate back in so need to improve over the HKS Hyper i currently run

fab up a removable piece so you can remove it and reinstall at anytime which shouldn't take long to do.

I don't know how anyone can drive on the road with a screamer, I only lasted a few days of not being able to boost at all for fear of instant defect, car crushing, death by firing squad on the side of the road. But then I do live in Victoria...

Tracks have DB limits too, on some cars they dump the exhaust out different sides depending which side of the track the pits (read microphone) sits. An open screamer would have no chance.

must be a Victorian thing.

Wakefield and Eastern Creek in Sydney, don't have noise restrictions.

wakefield does have noise restrictions, there is a mic in the middle of the grass patch near the main straight.

but they allow open screamers, your car must be insanely loud for them to pick it up and kick you off the track.

ok i just checked the wakefield regs, it says max limit is 95dB at 30m,

they must be very lienant with this as ive seen alot of GTRS/V8/cars with open screamers go there without an issue.

Noise can vary in DB with something a simple as a wall.

Most tracks have restrictions. And then also some have "X" amount of "unrestricted" days.

Just a matter of if you get pinned or not, and that depends then on the position of the pickup

Bris, Buy a 3.5" Borla/Magnaflow etc Stainless muffler from Summit/Jegs take to a decent exhaust shop and have a system made made, wont be titanium, but wont be any doubts about the muffler quality either

In fact just got a new full 4" system using Magnaflow's Troy. 6" body Cat as well. Worth thinking about - at least you know exactly what you're getting.

I'm a jdm fan to my detriment with some of the parts I buy... Incliding exhaust's for the most part.

But for the money, I'd carefully consider custom Ti pipe work (Appropriate grade Ti mandrel bends can be purchased in the US) with slip jointed 'Burns Stainless' center resonator/s and a brand name rear can.

The thin wall stainless pipe work 'Burns Stainless' stock are only a poofteenth heavier than the same size Ti

Don't go posting this stuff up on SAU. The real good gear you need to keep quiet and to yourself :) I did an exhaust with a friend years ago when I lived in Sydney and had after hours work to my old employers factory, tools etc. Their gear is top notch and I was planning on using two of their real mufflers in a twin system.

What I need to find is a centre muffler that has a 4" inlet and twin 2.5" outlet

    • Good morning all, Bit of a random question but figured I’d finally throw it out after wondering for a long while. Before I start, I'm hoping to do this purely out of personal preference. I think it would look better at night, and don't mind at all spending a few hours and dollars to get it done. I've copied this from a non-Skyline specific forum, so I apologize for the explanation of our headlight switch setup that we all know. Here we go: Zero lights (switch off) Parking lights (switch position 1) being a rectangular marker on the outside of the housing, my low beam being the projector in the centre (position 2), and a high beam triggered by my turn signal stalk. Most North American cars I’ve owned of this era have power to the amber corner (turning indicator) light as part of the first switch (parking lights). I’d love to have these amber corners receive power when the headlights and parking lights are on (headlight switch), yet still blink when using the turn signal which is of course a separate switch. Hopefully I’ve explained my question correctly. Is anyone aware of a way in which I might be able to achieve this? Thanks in advance
    • My heads are cathedral port! It's likely possible, but I don't want to add any extra moving parts (I know they don't move) between the heads, manifolds, etc. It will also affect how injectors/fuel rails etc sit and I don't really know if it would change how the FAST manifold goes/sits/fits. I have the LS6 steam pipes already as I have a very late LS1 block so it should be fine. I couldn't find anyone who had ever actually used one for this purpose, it seems 100% of people grind the water pump. The thermal spacers are 12mm and are half way to the cost of the newer water pump anyhow... so if it comes to that I suppose I'd rather buy a new pump. The bearing in the pump I do have is a little.. clunky, but it hasn't done that much time and I never noticed it when the car was together in the past few years, so..
    • The bushing has failed, not all that uncommon for a car of this age.  Any mechanic should be able to push in a new bushing for you, or you can probably buy the entire lower control arm, complete with bushes.
    • Could you not use "thermal" spacers to give the clearance, like the ones I used between the blower and head? That raised the manifold height by around 10-15mm Albeit the ones I used were for cathedral ports, but I assume they have similar for rectangular ports????
    • Thanks Paul I reached out to Autotainment but they no longer work on JDM cars as the guy who used to do the work moved on and is no longer doing that kind of work. I am talking with Level Up Audio though.
