I was in exactly the same boat. I asked my workshop what they think. Seeing as they were tuning and installing the clutch.

They said it will be fine. I did however see them do a run in period on the dyno.

It will be interesting to see what others think.

My clutch is still brand new but it's holding up fine. I'm not launching or clutch kicking. Just driving normally.

i have exedy HD which isnt that old, but im not sure if it will hold upto 300kw on the dyno, so am thinking bout doing the 300kw clutch to make sure theres no issues, and the dyno time isnt wasted.

anyone has an opinion on wether i should just see what happens or definetly fit the 300kw clutch.

FIt the new clutch for sure. No point getting on the dyno and the old ones slips during power run. Also expensive to have everything apart twice.

The bedding process is most important to stop it slipping instead of engaging when you let the clutch in or out. Once it is fully engaged it is much less likely to start slipping, dis-engaging again. They won't be dropping the clutch on the dyno

BTW make sure the flywheel is machined unless it is new. Uneven surface from the old clutch, especially if was badly worn, on the old flywheel is the biggest risk.

I have taken new clutches straight to the race track for full power launches. Only had one of them fail due to not being bedded in properly (had a small contact patch, got to hot and clutch welded to flywheel).

i think i will put the clutch in to save dissapointments on dyno day, im thinking the NPC 300kw rated organic clutch

couple of questions

1) What is the proper clamping pressure that i need for the result just so i know what im buying?

2) I want a good bite and a firm to quite firm pedal so does this mean i want SPRUNG or UNSPRUNG center if that makes sense? ( not sure what makes the pedal feel more firm)

the exedy i have has a soft pedal feel and lacks a good bite, so i dont wanna get it wrong.

the answer to both those questions will be answered by the good folk at NPC, just talk to them and tell them what you want.. but if you are going to be running 300kw surely you would get something rated a bit higher so your not right on the clutches limit?

sprung or solid centre is not what determines pedal firmness

Exactly.

yeah thats true, i have bad memories of the 5puck clutch that was in there 6months ago, i couldnt drive it and it was shaking the crap out of the whole driveline,

so that power level is probably verging on the edge of the organics limit and more in the ceramic button zone, is the cushioned button clutch anything like the 5puk?

cause its really the two options i think for around 300kw, also i dont often hang on the redline or do dumps/drifting etc

my uses is 80% easy driving streets and 20% drags so id expect a clutch to last a long time

I have a npc 650hp sprung button clutch and it drives beautifully.

I think my previous 5puck may have been worse than it should of cause the flywheel must be a bit worped, when it got taken off the car it was only wearing on one half,

I drove it for a week and just couldnt get used to it, the gearbox was taking a hammering, was making all sorts of noises, was thinking it was going to break.

I hear the NPC 300kw clutch is a good one, maybe it can be made slightly stronger again to handle a bit more

what do you guys think about the Exedy sports organic, on the kudosmotorsport site, they have 3 options

225kw, 285kw and 330kw( 2922lbf clamping pressure which is 50% increase over standard)

there $534 ,

what do people think about the 330kw option?? would that be as good as the NPC clutch or a cushioned button?

I'm using the 300kw NPC organic, on a 305kw GTR, but i'm gentle on clutches. Very happy with it, as its easy to use in heavy traffic. My previous 240kw rated clutch handled 305 without slipping, but when the throw out bearing died it was a good opportunity to put something more suitable in.

    • Just one more post to show the final result and the original "janky" solution for a laugh. Everything feels really tight and no wobbling at all, very pleased 🙂

    • The hot exhaust light will come on not from just the cat being blocked, but it's just a temp sensor, and it's designed to warn you to not do things like park in long grass.   If you've been pushing the motor a bit, it can cause the light to come on.   Second if the cat is rattling, I'd suspect it's not blocked, but instead falling apart inside.   The easiest "fix" until you can get a cat put back in, is to unbolt your one, bash the rest of the insides out, and then bolt it back in.   For a daily driver/street car, I am in agreeance of put a cat in the car. If it were race car I wouldn't care if it were removed.
    • No worries at all 🫡 I think the most satisfying things to make are the little bits that are just impossible to find or they're no longer manufactured. Generally I always try to replace parts with OEM wherever possible. This little project is also great because it'll never see the light of day, but strengthen these brackets so it's not just relying on the little standard screws in the headlight plastic. As soon as I saw the standard brackets and screws I thought, "well I'm not going to install with just the screws, the plastic tabs will just snap off". It's crazy how expensive everything has become yeah. But I suppose that's supply and demand; granted it's a lot easier to get brand new genuine parts these days which is fantastic 😊, I don't have to get totally reamed at the local Nissan dealer ha ha We sure are lucky we have all these manufacturers making parts these days, a few really great Australian companies too like Platinum Racing Products and Fit Mint Automotive, what a time to be alive ❤️ . I've got my eye on the RB26 head by PRP as mine has a very fine hairline crack, so that'll need to be addressed some time in the future. If you have any requests or odd things to make feel free to let me know and I can have a crack at making replacement parts ✌️
